Russell's POV
I had a hunch that those well-dressed people from a horse wagon are scamming people of their money with their scam product that is said to heal every kind of ailment. So, after that horse wagon left the scene, I started to follow them wherever they went. As I followed them through the city, it seemed that those people didn't even noticed me following them. Hehe, I bet they didn't have any mirrors on them to see anyone following from the behind, unlike my bus.
Then, the wagon arrived at an alleyway, and the well-dressed salesman and his assistant got off with a sack, which was shown to be heavy. "Must be money…" my mind said to me while I hid behind some wooden barrels.
And then, the door in a building was opened, and a middle-aged man, dressed in a formal suit and a bowtie came out and greeted them, before the salesman gave his report of his recent sales of the snake oil product.
After that, the man handed him the sack of money as revenue, which the middle-aged man accepted delightfully, knowing that he had earned a lot of money today.
"No way…" I couldn't believe my eyes, "…it is a scam!"
But then, the assistant heard something and looked at me, prompting me to hide behind the barrels.
Luckily, when I looked again, the three people went into the building, before the door was closed.
Watching that, I sighed in relief but was determined to bring those people to justice for scamming people of their money.
But for now, I need to monitor them and their business activities to gain more strong evidence against them.
So, I turned around and left the scene, promising to monitor them later this afternoon.
Shortly thereafter, as I walked back, my group came, asking how was my chase on those people.
"Well, it seemed that those people are probably scammers," said I towards them.
"Woah, did you see anyone with them?" Adrian asked.
"Yeah, a middle-aged man dressed in colorful clothes and a bowtie. That person must be their boss or something."
"Right…" Cassius replied while agreeing with me partially.
"That sounds suspicious," Taryn added, "people who dressed like that tended to be fraudsters. Their clothes are a way of drawing attention from other people."
I nodded in agreement.
After that, we all went to a tavern in a busy part of the city. It was a tavern Alder recommended to us. There we had a good meal for lunch, and the food and drinks were very good. No wonder Alder recommended that place for us: it was known for its delicious food.
Later after that, we paid for our meal and left, going back to the secluded bus where my bus is. There we hopped in, and Cassius and his two friends hopped on their horses, before we left the spot and went somewhere outside of the city's urban perimeters. That place was forested, and Cassius knew someone who lived there. He planned to ask that person to let us stay at his place, which was a big house. Luckily, there that person, who was a lonely, old lady was more than happy to let us stay in her big home as long as we needed.
So, we stayed there and settled in its empty rooms. Cassius told us that her last family member, her husband, had passed away a year ago; thus, she was now a lonely widow. Me and my group felt pity for her loneliness in her older years, but the old lady said that she has good memories with her late husband. Her children, meanwhile, had moved out a few decades ago to live with their own families. So, we stayed at that house and gave her some company for the afternoon. Although she saw my bus outside of her home, she didn't ask me or my group about it.
Phew! That was a relief.
But, I was ready to explain to her about it but still wanted to hide how it works technologically.
