The next day, Fiona woke up with a feeling of unease. Despite knowing she should be excited about having a job, she couldn't muster any enthusiasm for working at PK Enterprise, especially since she would not only be seeing that jerk but was also supposed to work closely with him.
However she felt, she knew she had to prepare and leave for work since that was the only option she had at the moment except, of course, she wanted to go jobless or return to the agency which she didn't want.
Without wasting time, Fiona got off the bed and walked to her closet to pick out her outfit and after which, stepped into the bathroom to shower and get ready for the day she knew was already spoilt.
A couple of minutes later, Fiona left the house and got into the cab she had ordered a while ago. All through the drive, the only thought on Fiona's mind was how she was going to have to work for Liam and actually give him the respect of a boss when she knew she could barely stand him.
She hoped that for her sake, he was truly sincere in his apology and would do as he had promised and not make things awkward between them. She thought with a sigh and stepped out of the cab when it stopped in front of the company gate.
Fiona took another breath as she went into the company and took the elevator to her desk which was just outside Liam's office.
Her heart skipped several beats and her step faltered when she saw Liam sitting by the edge of her desk.
"Good morning... sir," she greeted and Liam acknowledged her with a curt nod.
"How was your night...."
"I don't appreciate such personal questions, sir. I'm here to work," Fiona cut in and Liam smiled.
"If you must know, I ask all my employees that question. I need to know they are in sound mind," he said and Fiona nodded.
"So, Paul told me he gave you the file and list of everything you'd need to know around here. Go through them and while you're at it, prepare, we have a meeting with an investor by 10 a.m.," Liam said and Fiona nodded.
"Okay, sir," Fiona said and watched as Liam went into his office. Fiona spent the next couple of hours going through the file, trying to get acquainted with the happenings of the company before she came along.
Derek who was heading for Liam's office because of the meeting stopped in front of Fiona's desk and she sighed when she saw him.
She was just going to have to deal with bumping into him. She told herself as she forced a smile.
"Hey, Fiona," Derek greeted with a warm smile which she returned.
"Hey, Derek! We meet again," She said and Derek raised a brow.
"Again? Aren't we just meeting?" he asked with a wink and Fiona smiled, grateful he wasn't making things awkward.
"I guess we are," she said and Derek nodded as he stretched out a hand to her.
"Nice meeting you and I hope you stay longer," Derek said and Fiona raised a brow, as she briefly considered what he meant by that but before she could ask, Liam stepped out of his office for the meeting.
A curious frown creased his brows when he saw them shaking hands with Fiona giving him a questioning brow.
"I see your personal assistant is pretty and efficient," Derek said and spared Fiona a glance causing her to chuckle softly.
Liam looked at them and he felt a sense of protectiveness towards her. "She had barely just started, yet you already know she's efficient?" he asked, cocking his eyebrows at Derek and he shrugged.
"Well, I just know," he said and Liam scowled.
"Let's go for the meeting," Liam said and he, Derek, and Fiona went for the meeting. Before Liam and Derek could go into the conference hall, Liam stopped and handed his phone to her. "Tell whoever calls that I'm unavailable," Liam ordered and Fiona gave him a nod as she watched them disappear into the hall.
Not long after they got in, Liam's phone started ringing with a call from his mother, Fiona saw this and her heart skipped a beat.
Should she take the call or let it ring, Fiona mused and decided to not answer the call so she silenced it.
Harriet called again and when she had called for three times without getting a response, she stopped calling.
When Fiona saw that she had finally stopped calling, she let out a deep breath. Would she be able to work here freely without fear after what she did? What if Harriet came and saw her one day, what then was she going to do? Fiona asked herself.
When Liam and Derek came out of the hall a while later, just one glance at her and they could both feel the shift in her demeanor.
What must have happened while he was in the meeting hall? Liam mused and sensing that they would need to talk snout whatever happened, Derek quickly and stylishly excused himself.
"Are you okay?" Liam asked, and Fiona gave him a noncommittal grunt.
"Fiona?" he called again and she raised her head to look at him, wondering why he was calling her name that way.
"You don't seem fine. Did anything happen while I was in there?" he asked and Fiona avoided his gaze.
"Nothing...."
"I don't think it's nothing if you're looking this way," he said and Fiona sighed as thru stopped in front of her desk.
"Your mother called," she announced and Liam raised a brow.
"Did you talk to her?" he asked and she shook her head.
"Then why are you looking this way just because she called?" he asked and just then his mother came into view.
"That's because she lied. You both made a fool of me... and why are you here?" Harriet said as she approached them and Fiona's heart skipped several beats.
This was what she dreaded and to think it had to happen on her first day of work.
