Chapter 23 - What were you thinking?

The following morning, Fiona was the first to stir. She attempted getting up but the remnants of sleep clung to her like cobwebs, tempting her back into unconsciousness.

But then, a memory flickered. A touch, a whispered promise, a feeling of something unsettling. Immediately, every ounce of sleep left her and she bolted upright.

She didn't move as she first scanned the room with her eyes and when she discovered that Liam was still asleep, she decided to leave now.

Slowly and carefully, Fiona got out of bed as quietly as she could. Shower? She thought considering that she hadn't bothered to get one the previous night.

Forget it. The risk of waking him was too high. She decided and without wasting anytime, she slipped on the dress from the night before.

Although she wouldn't have wanted to wear it, she had no other choice as she didn't want to rouse him by attempting to look for something else.

Tipping on tiptoe, Fiona ghosted towards the door, leaving every other thing he got for her,

After opening the door, she glanced back at his sleeping form and when she saw he was still asleep, she stepped out, closing the door behind her.

The moment she got to outside of compound, she didn't bother to hail a cab, the movement was too risky for her.

Instead, she ran. Blindly, desperately, until her lungs burned and her legs threatened to give way. Only then did she flag down a passing taxi, collapsing into the back seat, chest heaving, the taste of freedom metallic on her tongue.

The moment the cab stopped Fiona in front of her apartment, Fiona heaved a heavy sigh of relief as she made her way into her house.

Once she got in, she slumped on the bed, a smile of playing on her lips as she thought about the night before and how she had snuck out of Liam's house just to avoid being reminded of her foolishness.

Knowing fully well that she would be teased about it all day, she still decided to tell her best friend about it. After all, it was an adventure and Elena had once advised her to get one.

Fiona dialed Elena's number, her heart still racing from the events of the previous night.

Elena's voice came up the moment she received the call. "Hey, girl! How's it going?" Elena asked, her voice cheerful as always.

"Good," Fiona said, trying to sound casual despite the excitement in her voice.

"You didn't call or text when you left his house last night. I was sort of busy so I didn't call. Why didn't you call?" Elena inquired and Fiona smiled.

"About that..." she let her words trail off as she took a deep breath before blurting out the truth. "I didn't leave his house last night."

There was a pause on the other end of the line before Elena spoke up. "Oh? And why's that?" Elena asked, curiously.

Fiona's face grew hot and she cleared her throat. She knew what was going to come if she told Elena the truth now. "Well.... I... uhm.. had sex with him." she stuttered.

Elena's laughter echoed through the phone. "You're kidding right?" Elena asked and when Fiona said, "Sadly no," she hanged up and called her on video call.

Once Fiona saw the video call request, she laughed as she took it. "You really slept with him?" Elena asked again, her unbelief evident. She clearly didn't know her friend well enough. Elena mused.

Fiona chuckled, feeling a mix of excitement and embarrassment. "I know, I know. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing. But, at least I won't have to face him again. So, yeah, why not?" Fiona asked and Elena shook her head in amusement.

"Who would've thought you had this side to you but then again, I should've known you can go all the way if you could kiss him," Elena said and laughed at the stains on Fiona's face indicating she was embarrassed.

"I never did. I'm just following your advice. You did ask me to find a man and get laid. Well here I am," Fiona said and Elena shook her head.

"Not this man. Especially not after you told him off. What were you thinking?" Elena asked reasonably and Fiona shrugged.

"To be honest? I wasn't thinking, okay? It just happened. Besides, I won't be seeing him again so it's not that of a big deal," Fiona said and Elena sighed.

"You weren't thinking, huh? Was he that good?" Elena teased, and Fiona laughed.

"Not doing that with you. How was your date? You're yet to mention it," Fiona asked, changing the subject.

"You won't believe who it was," Elena said and Fiona narrowed her eyes.

"Who?"

"My blind date was Dan!" she announced and Fiona's eyes widened in surprise.

"Dan? As in, your ex Dan? Or is there another Dan?" she asked not wanting to believe the coincidence.

Elena confirmed, "The one and only."

"How's that? Didn't you say your date was from a dating site?"

Elena nodded as she went on to explain and tell Fiona why Dan had approached her knowing it was her.

"Do you believe any of that crap? I mean, Dan loves you and saying he could settle for no strings attached when there are a lot of strings attached is ridiculous," Fiona said reasonably and Elena shrugged.

"You know me. The moment he starts giving that boyfriend vibe, I'm just going to bolt," Elena said and Fiona sighed.

"Left for me, I'll really advice you cut off ties with him. I really don't feel comfortable with you going out with him," Fiona said, voicing out her concerns.

"I can get him under control. So, right now, you're no longer a staff in that agency?" Elena asked changing the subject and Fiona nodded as a smile of freedom played on her lips.

"Yes. Now, I'm free and guess what? I got the job at PK Enterprise!" she said excitedly.

"But you've not even gone for the interview."

"I no longer need one, baby girl. I was called and asked to resume my office on Monday," she said and Elena screeched.

"I'm happy for you babes. I owe you a bottle of champagne. Maybe when I come visit aunt after she's back from the hospital," Elena said and Fiona decided to visit her mom after the call.

They both talked for some time, before ending the call.

Fiona sighed as she dropped her phone and got off the bed to go freshen up so she could leave got the hospital.

In the shower, Fiona smiled when she touched her boobs... a flicker of Liam fondling them played before her eyes and a blush stole her cheeks.

She felt her core warm up at the thought and she giggled. As much as she enjoyed the sex and would probably have loved another chance to experience everything she felt, she knew she could only imagine it.

She didn't want to see Liam again. Especially after she told him off the other day only to end up sleeping with him. It would be too shameful for her. She thought as she stepped out of the shower a while later and once she got dressed, headed out.
