As soon as Liam entered his room, he collapsed onto his bed, letting out a deep sigh, one laced with tiredness and frustration as the events of the day wore on him.
He had been feeling emotionally drained since the confrontation with his mother earlier that day followed by the news of Fiona's mother's health.
Everything had happened so fast that he had been unable to think properly about his actions earlier. All through his drive home, he couldn't stop thinking about the way he had reacted, jumping to Fiona's defense like a shield.
Why had he felt the need to stand up to his mom and protect Fiona so fiercely? And why did he still feel a lingering sense of responsibility towards her, even now?
Probably it was because of how vulnerable she had been at the hospital while her mother was undergoing surgery. He knew Fiona to be feisty but the girl he had been with earlier in the hospital was devoid of all feistiness. A direct opposite of the Fiona he knew.
