As Viren saw the infected dodge Kiaan's shot, he knew he should finish it off.
But before he could move, Kabir had already charged ahead, which made him a little anxious.
"Wait, this might show me how strong he really is," Viren thought and let Kabir take the charge for it. But the moment Kabir turned to taunt Kiaan, Viren's eyes widened at his student's foolishness.
"That idiot!" he muttered under his breath, rushing towards the infected with his sword. At the same time, the infected lunged at Kabir, but Viren was faster and much better than the bloodthirsty creature.
In a flash, he reached the infected, and with a single swing of his sword, Viren had chopped off its head cleanly.
"Kabir Bharat, never take your eyes off your target," Viren shouted angrily at Kabir. Viren only used a student's full name when he was mad at them, and everyone knew this. Knowing this, Kabir was scared of Viren now.
To handle the situation, he immediately bowed his head and apologized, "Sorry, sir. I understand. I... I won't do it again.
" Kiaan mumbled "Spiderman can't heal, dumb brain" under his breath, but no one heard him.
Viren then knelt down to examine the dead infected's arms. He noticed something strange - the broken bones seemed to have fixed themselves, even though some pieces were still visible under the healed flesh.
"What type of inhumane stuff is this?" Viren thought, touching the now-healed arms. "It seems... somewhat weird," he said as he felt the muscles and bones of this creature.
The bones were healed in an odd way as they were sticking out a bit from the arms, and muscle tissues. "Anyways," Viren thought as he got up with a sigh. "There's nothing I can do about it."
"Seems like it's over? I need a report on this mess," Viren said to all the senior students.
"Annnd, here we go," Kiaan muttered a little louder this time for everyone to hear.
As soon as Kiaan spoke, all the other kids started talking at once, each explaining what had happened to them.
"Kiaan just ran off with your sword," Sarah exclaimed, pointing at Kiaan.
"We were jogging off..." Kabir interjected, pointing at the main entrance of the academy.
And everyone else chimed in, each explaining what they had seen first.
Anju was annoyed at this everyday occurrence and shouted, "SHUT UP!" silencing the students' chatter. "Who... first... saw... these... attackers?" she demanded in a strong and annoyed voice, putting one hand on her forehead.
Kabir raised his hand, and with Anju's nod, he then explained to both wardens everything that had happened so far.
....
After Kabir finished his report, Kiaan couldn't help but ask, his curiosity and patience at its peak, "Sir, did it actually heal itself?"
Viren stood still, one hand on his chin and the other on his sword at his side. He looked up at Kiaan's question and stared for a moment, unsure if he should tell or not. "Ah... who cares," he mumbled before replying, "Yes... It somehow did. It seems like it even grew the bones back, even though some broken pieces are still there. The arm is completely healed though." Viren himself was in shock. "Can they heal their head as well?" This was the thought wondering in Kiaan and Viren's mind.
But the rest of the group was still shocked at the fact of the zombies being able to heal. After all, this was a surprise to everyone. No one had ever seen or heard of anything like this.
Viren broke the silence. "Okay," he said. "You said you ran into these... uh... zoombye things?" He looked at Kiaan for confirmation, unsure if he was saying the right word.
"Uh... zombies, sir," Kiaan corrected, reading Viren's expression.
"Right, these zombies," Viren said. He then turned to Kabir. "You met them at the entrance, right? And they followed you and some other students?"
"Uhh.... Yes, sir," Kabir answered, unsure where Viren was going with his questions.
"Do you think it's possible some of these... uh... zombies grabbed a few students and are eating them right now?" Viren asked everyone casually, almost as if he didn't care about the students. Even though everyone knew this isn't true.
All kids were stunned at this realization that the chaos is still not completely settled. "It... it could be possible, sir," Kabir said, gulping, and sorrow was seen in his eyes.
"Jai, go to the roof of the Tagore block and check things out," Viren ordered Jai. He pulled out his phone and handed it to Jai.
"Uhh... Sir," Kiaan called out to Viren, "according to movies and games, these zombies can turn others into zombies too, if they bite them," Kiaan completed in a feared voice.
Anju and Viren exchanged a worried look as Anju handed her phone to Viren. Viren went to make a call to the phone which Jai was holding.
Jai chuckled and said, "this is not a movie."
But Anju interpreted him, "That's probably what's happening," Anju said, looking at the students. They were all shaken, not physically tired, but emotionally drained from seeing so many people die, especially those close to them.
Anju let out a sigh and began explaining the new variant of the Coronavirus to the students.
"This is going to be trou..." Kabir started to say, but Viren interrupted him.
"We're forked," Viren said, approaching the kids after talking to Jai on the phone. His face tensed and wrinkles appeared on his forehead.
"The entrance and the area near the generator room are crawling with zombies," Viren told Anju in a low tone so that the students wouldn't be able to hear it.
"But it was of no use, as these kids were taught how to read lips the previous year.
And all the students were filled with fear and sorrow, except one.
"I have an idea, sir," Kiaan said, and Kabir scoffed at him. At the same time, Viren gave a slight nod, giving Kiaan a sign to continue."
