Han Lixin rolled her eyes as she grabbed the pajamas and marched towards the bathroom. She didn't feel like engaging in a conversation with this pompous peacock.
"I'm talking to you! Are you deaf?" Cheng Yuze felt slighted by her indifference. His anger flared up instantly. He had never been ignored like this before!
"I have no comment," Han Lixin retorted before disappearing into the bathroom and slamming the door shut.
Cheng Yuze: "..." Damn it! This was the second time he'd been shut down by her!
"Hey! Are you even listening?! Do you know who you're talking to?" Cheng Yuze refused to feel belittled and yelled outside the bathroom door.
"Yes, the illustrious CEO of KGC Bank, Cheng Yuze," Han Lixin emerged from the bathroom, clad in a light pink pajama set. Leaning against the wall, she sized up the man before her with a second eye roll.
What a proud peacock!
Cheng Yuze: "..."
Why did he feel so stifled every time she responded to him?!
"Well, Mr. President Cheng, could you kindly step aside so I can hit the sack? You're blocking my path," Han Lixin smiled sweetly, her eyes holding a hint of defiance. It seemed like she wouldn't budge unless he did.
Cheng Yuze subconsciously moved aside, allowing Han Lixin to make her way to the bed. She patted the mattress before climbing onto it, propping herself against the headboard, engrossed in her phone, completely disregarding Cheng Yuze's existence.
Meanwhile, Cheng Yuze questioning his worldwide view whether what had happened earlier was just his illusion. Why had his usually docile wife suddenly transformed into a fierce little tiger, ready to pounce on anyone who dared to cross her?
"I made Mrs. Yun apologize to you in front of everyone at the party today," Cheng Yuze sighed deeply, turning to face the figure on the bed.
"I didn't say I'd forgive her," Han Lixin replied nonchalantly, not bothering to lift her head as she placed her phone on the bedside table.
"Do you think you're something special? Mrs. Yun apologized to you, and that should be enough!" Cheng Yuze felt a twinge of disdain for Han Lixin's response. She should be grateful for his intervention and demand for an apology on her behalf from Mrs. Yun!
Well, technically, it was Han Lixian who had prompted Mrs. Yun to apologize to Han Lixin, not Cheng Yuze.
"I never asked her to apologize to me," Han Lixin's voice remained surprisingly calm, unlike Cheng Yuze, who was on the brink of losing his temper.
"It was your sister who asked her to do it!" Cheng Yuze seethed at Han Lixin's dismissive attitude.
"If that's the case, then it's Xian'er's problem, not mine," Han Lixin finally settled onto the bed, her hand resting on her forehead as she closed her eyes in silence. Meanwhile, Cheng Yuze glared at her composed demeanor, his irritation mounting.
"Han Lixin!" He knew he couldn't do anything to Han Lixin, but he was seething with anger. He called out to her just to let her know how peeved he was.
"Shh! I'm sleepy. You should go freshen up," Han Lixin opened her eyes, placing a finger to her lips with a playful smile.
Despite the striking image before him, Cheng Yuze felt no inclination to appreciate her beauty. His chest heaved with rapid breaths, his anger simmering, yet he was powerless to act against her.
After all, she was a member of the Han family. If they found out she had been mistreated by the Cheng family, there would surely be repercussions.
The protective stance of Han Lixian spoke volumes about Han Lixin's importance.
Without another word, Cheng Yuze snatched a towel from the rack and stormed into the bathroom, slamming the door behind him. As soon as the door closed, Han Lixin's eyes snapped open, a faint smile gracing her lips as she observed the bathroom door.
During their earlier altercation, Han Lixin had gained insight into Cheng Yuze's character. Despite his arrogance, he knew where to draw the line. Though he resented her presence as his wife, Cheng Yuze never resorted to physical violence. At least he understood that much.
Besides, there was a strange satisfaction in teasing this pompous peacock. Every time he strutted around, flaunting his pride, he resembled a peacock flaunting its majestic tail feathers. Since Cheng Yuze insisted on acting like a peacock, Han Lixin didn't mind indulging him.
Suddenly, Han Lixin felt a familiar heat coursing through her body. The fever she thought had subsided had returned with a vengeance. Perhaps the medicine she had taken earlier had worn off.
(It should subside with some rest.)
With that thought, Han Lixin closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
Cheng Yuze emerged from the bathroom, a towel wrapped around his waist, water droplets cascading down his toned physique.
He retrieved a set of pajamas from the wardrobe and changed in the middle of the room, paying no mind to returning to the bathroom. Han Lixin was already fast asleep, after all.
Once dressed, Cheng Yuze heard a soft voice emanating from the bed.
"Mom..."
Turning towards the bed, Cheng Yuze saw a petite figure wrapped in blankets, trembling slightly. Her pink lips parted as she uttered a soft plea.
He hadn't expected the fierce tiger from earlier to appear so vulnerable now. Cheng Yuze regarded her with a mixture of concern and confusion, wondering what had transpired.
Approaching the bed, he reached out to touch Han Lixin's forehead. The moment his hand made contact, he recoiled as if burned.
Han Lixin was burning up! She had a fever!
"This hot?" Cheng Yuze glanced at his hand, then back at Han Lixin, astonished.
"It's none of my business," Cheng Yuze muttered, turning to leave for his study located in another part of the bedroom.
"Mom... Please... Don't leave me..."
Cheng Yuze's steps faltered. Glancing back at the woman on the bed, he was taken aback to see tears streaming down Han Lixin's closed eyes.
She was crying.
Cheng Yuze: "..."
Damn it! His heart softened at the sight of those tears!
Cheng Yuze ruffled his hair in annoyance as he walked back toward the bed with a bad face.
