"I drove Dylan to his apartment. Now let's forget everything useless and begin anew," the red marks on my left hand said.
No, please! Just tell me I haven't done it yet again... I continued reading the marks on my right hand.
"Let's begin- from the morning. Dylan says I am younger than you should take responsibility for me too..."
Tears fell from my eyes. The only real warmness my body had felt in a while. It is the worst feeling ever, the hangover from my momentary happiness.
I opened the fridge and looked at the five untouched boxes as my imagination faded. I opened one. Doing something in reality helped speed up the process.
"Why should I do it when I am not even the one inheriting a manor this big? "
"Dylan! What are you-"
"I am asking you to be less greedy! I am telling you that Mother's siblings have tortured Mother because you have been living off grandfather for ten years and now you have even begged him to get this castle! That wasn't good enough for you, so you greedy demon are going for Diana's man again!
I am saying forsake this castle and give it back to Grandfather Miracle if you care for our parents." Dylan shouted in my face.
I looked at his angry face. 'Have I ever made such a face when talking to someone?' I wondered.
"You know what Dawn? You always act like a sage, so I couldn't believe it until I saw it with my own eyes. I used to think you have your reasons, but a self-loving person like you can not have any legitimate reasons. "
Looking at him, he looked nothing like the innocent child I brought back snacks for after school. He had grown up. With naivety, after everything Grandpa did to make it a clean transaction, I brought with me a spy.
" Gather your things. I will drive you back."
Taking out a package of pastries, I went to Lucas.
"..am.. sorry I... I will be back soon." I tried to explain, even though the words didn't seem to flow, as I gave him the door keys and the package of pastries.
Munch! Munch!
Looking at the car's clock, it was almost 5 in the morning. I am a liar; at least 20 hours from the promised time.
Munch! Munch!
So good, I took another big bite of the pistachio donut. Nutty, rich, and sweet.
Cough! The food got stuck. Taking out my frappuccino, which most probably expired, and I drank it. I looked at it with hate. I had long promised myself that no awful food would ever enter my body. Let's ignore the promise for now. I have to live to eat delicate food...
Looking around for my phone, it was missing. Had I even brought it with me? Well, not that I needed it urgently. I just wanted to share some philosophical bullcrap to make myself feel better. It seems I have to change my lifestyle since I have too many unhealthy addictions.
"It feels like shit! I am going to post as soon as I arrive!"
I am going to change, but maybe later...
It has never, in my life, been a time when it didn't storm after a relatively calm day. These days I had so many miserable days, that I had forgotten to be careful of peaceful days.
Like life has to make sure I pay for every little damn thing. Poor Lucas. He will have to live this kind of life with me and nothing less than 5 to 6 years.
Thinking of Lucas alone in that nowhere, I pressed my foot harder on the gas pedal. Relying on the curse of 'remembrance' I rode and rode.
Unlike the first time, as I entered the forest, my head felt like it was melting. It hurt, a pulsing pain. Again, that crying whisper-like scream sounded in my ear.
*"FIRST SIN ARROGANCE, Boom Boom Attack,
SECOND SIN WEAKNESS, Woosh Woosh Back off,
THIRD SIN RUNNING AWAY, Bleez Bleez Runoff,
FOURTH SIN FORGETFULNESS, Sheesh Sheesh Forget."
After what seemed half an hour, the voice slowly faded away.
*"FIRST SIN ARROGANCE, Boom Boom Attack,
SECOND SIN WEAKNESS, Woosh Woosh Back off,
THIRD SIN RUNNING AWAY, Bleez Bleez Runoff,
FOURTH SIN FORGETFULNESS, Sheesh Sheesh Forget..."
I got out of the car with dizziness. Out of breath, I sat on the wet ground, leaning towards a tree. Then my stomach got emptied of the snacks I had.
"Huph, huph, huph... blegh!"
After throwing up three times, I felt better. Looking up, I saw golden light arrays passing through the branches covering the forest. I could hear birds singing and there was also a flowing water sound. A chilly morning breeze stroked my cheeks. It is already dawn, such a magical and pretty dawn.
Holding the tree, I stood up. A new dawn informs of the beginning of a new day. Who cares about history? I got in the car and drove to the castle. I have a lot to do.
This time, I was careful to take the right path...
The fields were full of flowers, still pretty. The castle now, out of the fog, was indescribable. It gave me a rush of thrill. Opening the truck door, I sighed. It was still full.
"What did I expect? Like in imagination, they were gone without me lifting a finger?" I asked and answered myself.
I rolled up my sleeves. Let's start with moving the fridges. They were damn heavy. Taking out the package, I dragged it towards the kitchen. Then it suddenly became lighter. Because of the shock, I left it.
" Aw!! What are you doing?" An angry head popped from behind the package. It was Lucas with bloodshot eyes and full of feathers.
"Oh, sorry!"
I took the package from my side.
Dragging out the old fridge, the new one replaced it. ONES, TO BE EXACT. Now one side of the brick kitchen was full of fridges.
After one hour of work, all of them were full. Everything seemed okay, other than the fresh vegetables. They were in a state of either you eat me now or never. Seeing that, the lunch menu seemed pre-decided.
Looking at the almost-fainting Lucas, I felt guilty. I am lucky if his grandfather doesn't come out of the grave to punish me.
Washing my hand, I found the toaster and tested some bread. If we waited until assembling the stove, we would starve. The only option for now, were the no-bake options. Putting the toasted bread, orange juice, butter, jam, and cheese in front of Lucas, I looked to see if he had any complaints.
Seeing him gobbling down everything made me feel even more guilty. I had starved a kid. Damn you Doctor Mirakel. How do I look like a reliable person??
"Lucas," I said, having a lot to say.
He looked up with full cheeks.
"Do you want to live with one of your relatives instead of me?"
