Seraiya laughed. How could she not when Amani made a joke? It was a beautiful summer day. A Sunday to be exact. Seraiya and Amani sat on a hill filled with wildflowers overlooking a large lake.
But something felt wrong.
"What happened to her!"
She heard suddenly from a distance. "Did you hear that?" Seraiya suddenly asked Amani with a confused look. "Hear what?" Amani asked concerned.
"I… I don't know I just found her like this"
seraiya heard again the voice sounding farther away than the other. "That voice!" Seraiya said suddenly standing up and looking around. Amani suddenly grabbed seraiyas hand making Seraiya look down at her.
"I didn't hear anything," Amani told her even more concerned.
"Rai, are you ok?" Amani asked using Seraiya to pull herself up. Amani placed her hand on seraiyas cheek and Seraiya gave Amani a light nod. "I guess it was just my imagination" Seraiya replied.
"WHAT HAPPENED TO HER" Damien yelled as he and Zack followed the doctors who took Seraiya through two doors where they couldn't pass. "I… I don't know I just found her like that" Zack told him.
Seraiya had been beaten and bloody beyond belief. Who could have done this to her? Damien asked himself. Who could defeat a tribrid? "What the hell are we gonna do?" Damien asked himself as he began to pace back and forth. "What if she dies?" He questioned.
"They're gonna save her," Zack said stopping Damien. "I know they will" he added looking at the double doors.
Seraiya sat back down on the ground. She still felt that something wasn't right, like something was missing she just didn't know what.
Then it finally hit her. "Amani" Seraiya said suddenly as she continued to stare at the lake. "Hm," Amani said as she just lay on the ground with her arm over her eyes. "When did we get here?" Seraiya asked still looking at the lake.
Amani took her arm off her eyes and sat up. "What do you mean we've been here all day?" Amani stated. "I don't remember coming here" Seraiya uttered.
"What do you mean you don't remember?" Amani questioned. "I don't remember coming here or anything before coming here," Seraiya told her. "So you don't remember getting beat by Alvera," Amani said suddenly.
"Getting beat by Alvera?" Seraiya questioned turning to Amani. "You almost died," Amani said "Or maybe you did die," Amani told her as a piece of memory suddenly flashed into Seraiyas mind.
"No," Seraiya said standing up and turning to Amani. "I can't be dead" Seraiya whispered. "I can't be here," she said holding her head and beginning to pace. "Calm down," Amani told her. "Where even is here?" Seraiya asked as she stopped and turned to Amani.
Amani stood up and dusted herself off. "You're in your mind," Amani told her. "My own…" Seraiya said taking in a shaky breath. "My own mind… I'm stuck in my own mind" Seraiya repeated.
"You're not stuck," Amani told her. "I'm keeping you here" Amani admitted. "How are you even here?" Seraiya asked her. "You wanted me here so I came" Amani replied.
"Where is she" Piper asked as she ran to Damien. "They just took her back," Damien told her. "What the hell happened?" Tyler demanded to know in his alpha tone. "We don't know" Damien answered. "I was by the lake when suddenly I saw someone fall into it from the sky or something, I didn't even know it was her until I pulled her out of the water," Zack told them.
Suddenly a doctor came out into the waiting room. "Are your Seraiyas family?" the doctor asked "Yes" Piper answered simply. "We brought in a doctor that can better tell us how to operate on her when she is taken back into surgery she will have very limited personnel with her," the doctor told her.
"What are you talking about?" Piper asked. "You brought Seraiya to a human hospital where we don't have the personnel specialized enough to handle what she is, so I took the liberty to call someone who can," the doctor told them.
"Why not just transfer her then?" Tyler asked. "Her injuries are…. Significant" the doctor replied. "The only reason she is still alive is probably because of what she is. As of now, she is not in a stable enough condition to risk being moved. She received injuries to major vital organs which resulted in significant blood loss she is already in surgery where my doctors are doing everything they can until the person I called can arrive" the doctor explained to them.
"But even so I think you should prepare yourselves" the doctor added. "No" Piper cried turning and hugging her brother.
"None of this makes sense," Seraiya said sitting on the ground. "I killed you," she said. "I burned your body" she continued "Are you even dead?" Seraiya asked. "Of course I'm dead," Amani told her. "Then why don't you hate me?" Seraiya asked standing up "Why come here? why continue to love me?" Seraiya asked.
"I could never hate you," Amani told her. "I got to have a life because of you, I got to grow up because of you," Amani said. "A lot of kids did" she added. "But you can't keep going on like this" Amani told her. "Then what am I supposed to do?" Seraiya asked.
"Stop fighting… and live…" Amani told her. "Or everyone you love will die" Amani warned. Seraiya was silent for a moment. "I can't" Seraiya whispered. "I'm sorry" she added looking Amani in her honey colored eyes.
Amani took a step back. "Then I don't know how I can save you" Amani replied. "You can't," Seraiya told her. "I can't be saved" she added stepping towards Amani. "How do you know that? How do you know I can't save you?" Amani asked.
Seraiya smiled as her eyes teared up and she placed her hand on Amani's cheek. "Because," Seraiya said with a gulp. "You're not really her," she said shaking her head.
Suddenly Amani slowly began to turn to dust. "Yes, I am," Amani said. "No," Seraiya said. "Amani would never want me to stop fighting for what I believed in, no matter how much she hated the idea of it," Seraiya said as Amani began to fade more and more.
"Goodbye," Seraiya said as she closed her eyes and Amani disappeared into the wind.
