"what will you have me do? Do we crumble his little business so he knows you have been his helper? Tell me what to do with one phone call I will do it" Mr. Botzal demanded from the other end of the phone his voice laced with anger.
Botzal is Sharon's business manager. He is an elderly man who has been friends with her father for over forty-five years. The moment Sharon decided to leave a low-key life she handed her share of the business to him. She remembered her father once telling her that Mr Botzal was a genius and he wouldn't have gone this far without him. She trusted him with her life and every month since she handed over things to him she had never regretted it. He ran the business like his own.
When Sharon married Freeman he secretly pulled investors to his business under the directive of Sharon hence his anger when Sharon broke the news to him of her divorce.
After making peace with what Freeman had done, she called him first. He is the closest she had to a parent since she was not on good terms with her uncle
"Let him be with time he would understand the gravity of what he has done," Sharon said dismissing the idea of bringing Freeman. She didn't have the heart to do that to him.
"What about his mother? What did she say about all these? Botzal asked again
Sharon kept silent for a while as she had not thought of calling her mother-in-law. She knew Freeman was a mummy's boy and there is no way he would have pulled this off without talking to her about it first.
"I take it from your silence that you have not spoken to her. Should I put a call to her?" He asked eager to find another excuse to bring Freeman down. He had never liked his mother.
"Let her be, I am sure she has early knowledge of this. I wouldn't put it past her that she suggested this in the first place " Sharon replied
"What will you do now?" Do you want to go on a vacation? Botzal suggested hoping she would like the idea and take some time to relax
"I have been on vacation from the day I decided to conceal my identity. I think what I need now is to engage in some work. I want to come out of my shell a little " Sharon replied refusing the idea of a vacation
"Where and when would you like to start? Botzal asked immediately knowing it would be foolish to question her. She probably made up her mind before placing a call to him.
"How many businesses do we have in this town alone? Sharon asked
"We have two five-star hotels and oil producing company over there."
" I will start with those three for now, I will pay them visits to see how they are doing "
"Do you need me to send a driver to your present location? Botzal asked knowing she had denied herself so many privileges just to appear normal in society.
"I will sort myself out, thank you"
Sharon dropped her phone and looked around her room for the last time. Freeman told her she could stay till the next morning before leaving the house but she made up her mind to leave that evening making sure she didn't take anything from his house
She reasoned all she had to sacrifice in an attempt to get the right man and she concluded it had all been in vain. It would be a dangerous thing for her to marry someone who would end up ruining her coven hence her determination to get it right in the place of marriage.
"Maybe this method I used was wrong, but what other method can I use that will be better? She asked herself knowing if she openly displayed wealth and affluence many men would come kissing her feet. She didn't want that. She didn't just want a leader for her coven but wanted a true husband for herself.
At that moment her phone rang. One looked at the phone and she saw it was her mother-in-law.
"speak of the devil" She muttered
Sharon wanted to pick up the call but hesitated as she wondered what she wanted to say and if she was in the mood to listen to any excuse.
After some time the call came in again by this time she placed the phone on silent mode while she went ahead to pack some of her clothes inside her bag. She could get new ones but some clothes were very important to her.
" I know you are in the room and you have been ignoring my calls, I am sure now that my son made the right choice to divorce you" a voice shouted from her closed door.
It was then Sharon realized her mother-in-law had been in the house all this while when she had been calling.
She felt guilty immediately for not picking up the calls. She wanted to say she was sorry and opened the door for her but she stopped herself from saying anything.
Right now silence was going to be her best answer till she was out of the house. She wouldn't give anyone the satisfaction of hearing her voice.
Her mother-in-law continued talking at the door all in a bid to draw Sharon outside but Sharon refused to be moved
She even went as far as calling Sharon a slut.
That was the most hurtful word Freeman and his mother have used on her and at the mention of it Sharon opened the door with her bag ready to leave the house.
She took one good look at her Mother-in-law, hissed, and walked passed her..
Sharon was brought up to have great respect for her elders hence she didn't bring herself to exchange a word with her.
" I pity you because I know your son will regret this decision," she said in her heart as she walked out of the house .
