Matthew frowns as he receives a call from his mother, who tells him that his sister and her fiancée couldn't make it to his party tonight because of her mistake. Madelyn explains that she gave Isabelle a bit too much champagne and had to return her, drunk, to Rayleigh.
Matthew takes a deep breath, not entirely surprised. He knows that sometimes his mother can be very careless around alcohol, even though she's only a casual drinker. Madelyn loves to encourage others to drink on her behalf.
"Just get lunch tomorrow, the three of you. Put it on my tab," Madelyn says. Despite being on the phone, Matthew can see his mother's smile.
"Oh, I'm going to take them to the most expensive restaurant and spend on those caviar and truffles," he tells Madelyn.
"Yeah, okay," Madelyn replies, her tone laced with a hint of resignation.
