The light of the sun crept into the artificial cave and danced on Aldric's eyelids. He could feel the slightest bit of warmth from it, enough to combat the cold of the stone floor beneath him. Aldric's eyes fluttered open, swiftly adjusting to the soft lighting.
He could now get a clear view of where he was: inside the shelter they had fought so hard to create. It was a huge step up from their last cave, which could only be accessed by crawling into it. This cave had enough space for them to stand in, was far more spacious, and was much less cold and more comfortable.
'Wow, I'm actually alive and breathing,' Aldric thought, genuinely shocked. He then looked towards the entrance and saw a figure coming in, the light behind Lerai making him a silhouette until he fully entered the cave. Seeing Aldric, he let out a wry smile.
"You're awake," he muttered as he slumped on the floor in exhaustion, not too far from where Aldric lay.
