Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Picking Classes

As the school day began, the students received a notification on their watches, reminding them to head to their homeroom classes. Among them were Adam, Shawn, Tyler, Max, and Elizabeth, who walked down the hallway, looking for their homeroom. After a brief search, Tyler spotted it. "There it is - class 5," he said, pointing to a door down the hall. They walked in, only to be surprised by the number of students already present. The five friends found a spot in the back of the classroom, where they settled in for the morning.

As the class went on, the group discussed their plans to join the elemental class. However, Elizabeth raised a concern. "What about Adam?" she asked. "He doesn't have an ability."

Adam quickly spoke up. "I do have an ability, but I'm not showing anyone until the military fighting competition, or unless you guys are in trouble." He summoned small flames on his fingers as he spoke, causing everyone to look on in awe.

Max, who was known for being exceptionally intelligent, offered to help Adam train. "I'm not that smart, but I'm glad to ask my brother. He has the family ability," he said, pulling out her phone to text him. "What days work for you?" he asked Adam.

"Whenever we have school off," he replied, eager to start training.

As the day went on, Shawn suggested that Adam try playing a VR game called Ability War to help him train. "My brother created that game," Max added.

Adam was intrigued. "That sounds like a great idea. After school, let's meet at the VR pods in the city," he said, excited to get started on his training.

The classroom was filled with a cacophony of sounds as the students chatted away, ignoring the teacher's instructions to fill out the paper. The teacher, growing increasingly frustrated, raised his voice to get their attention. "Alright class," he said sternly. "I SAID ALRIGHT CLASS!"

This time, the students stopped talking and turned to look at him. A few of them looked sheepish, realizing they had been caught not paying attention.

"Anyways," the teacher continued, "you guys have five more minutes to fill out this paper. Please make sure to fill it out completely and hand it back to me when you leave."

"Excuse me, sir," a student said, raising their hand. "What are these classes about?"

The teacher, surprised to see someone showing an interest, walked over to the board and began to explain. "Well," he said, "Martial Arts is all about self-defense. You will learn different techniques to protect yourself in case of an attack."

One of the students, a girl with curly hair, spoke up. "That sounds so cool! I've always wanted to learn self-defense."

The teacher smiled at her enthusiasm. "And Demon Weapons Class is all about fighting with weapons that are fueled by demonic energy. You will learn how to use them effectively in combat."

Another student, a boy with glasses, spoke up this time. "That sounds pretty intense. What kind of weapons are we talking about here?"

The teacher chuckled. "You'll have to wait and see."

Finally, he explained the last class. "Elemental Class is all about harnessing the power of the elements - earth, air, fire, and water. And Block Block is a game we play to help you with your defense skills you can only pick three classes unless you want to take all four."

The students nodded, impressed by what they had heard. As the bell rang, signaling the end of the class, they left the room, excited to start learning about these new subjects.

Adam's classes for the year were Demon Weapons Class, Martial Arts Class, Elemental Class, then Block Block at the end of the day

As Adam left the classroom, he felt a sense of excitement bubbling inside of him. He couldn't wait to start learning new abilities and skills that would help him become a better fighter. He walked down the hallway, his friends by his side, discussing their plans for the upcoming classes.

"I can't wait to start learning how to use the demon weapons," Shawn said, his eyes lighting up with anticipation.

"Yeah, and I'm excited to learn about all the different martial arts techniques," Tyler added.

Elizabeth nodded in agreement. "And I'm looking forward to learning how to harness the power of ice in the elemental class." As they walked, they passed by a group of students who were huddled around a notice board, reading the announcements. Curious, Adam walked over to see what all the fuss was about.

"Hey, what's going on?" he asked one of the students.

"The military fighting competition is in two months," the student replied.

"It's open to all students who have an ability and want to participate. The winner gets picked from one of the big families."

Adam's eyes widened with excitement. "That sounds amazing!" he exclaimed. "I have to sign up for that." His friends nodded in agreement, and they all made a mental note to sign up for the competition as soon as they could. As they walked out of the building back to their dorms.

"Hey Shawn, would you like to accompany me to the Virtual Reality (VR) pods? And, can you assist me in figuring out how it works?" Adam asked excitedly.

"Follow me," Shawn replied, smiling as he led the way. As they walked, Shawn explained the rules and how the game works, hoping to give Adam a better understanding of it.

VR pods were the latest trend in gaming, and they were all the rage among gamers. Adam was thrilled to be able to experience it for himself. As they arrived at the VR pods, Adam noticed that they were all occupied. But, he was determined to try it out.

"When you first enter the game, you create an avatar to keep your identity anonymous. choose your ability, and if you own demon gear, you can store it in the box near the VR pod. The game's goal is to fight other people in the military to improve your fighting skills," Shawn explained, hoping to give Adam a better understanding of the game.

Adam was curious and asked, "Can you choose the strength of the people you want to fight? Like their level?"

Shawn smiled and replied, "Yes, you have the option to select people from levels 1-8 to fight against. You get to pick your opponent's strength, which makes the game more challenging."

Adam was fascinated and asked, "What happens if you lose?"

"If you lose, you get points taken away from your score, and if you win, you get points added to your score. The game is designed to make you better by learning from your mistakes," Shawn replied.

Adam was impressed and asked, "Can we play now?"

"Sure, let's do it!" Shawn replied, and they both entered the VR pods to enjoy the game. "Oh, and add me when you join"

When Adam entered the game, he was greeted with a white screen that displayed a sign-in page. Since Adam didn't have an account, he created a new one with the username "The Unkillable". When he joined the game, he didn't try to hide his identity and played as himself. He noticed that Shawn was also playing the game and joined him.

Adam was excited to try out the virtual reality game he had heard so much about. When he arrived, he was greeted by his friend Shawn, who had come along to watch him play.

"Okay, so what do I do now?" Adam asked, feeling a bit nervous.

"You join a match and I'll just watch you fight," Shawn replied, reassuringly.

Adam quickly joined the first available match, and as he began to fight, he was amazed at how realistic the experience was. He felt as if he was actually there in person, fighting his opponent.

"You look small for a level 5," his opponent, a guy named Brandon, said.

"Actually, I'm only level 1," Adam corrected him, a little embarrassed.

Brandon was really confident that he could beat Adam and ran towards him, throwing a punch. But to his surprise, Adam's body was intangible, and his fist went straight through him. Blue flames surrounded Brandon's fist, causing him to jump back.

"What ability is that? And how are you not hurting my strength ability? It hurts everyone," Brandon asked in confusion.

"Not if you can't touch the person," Adam replied with a smirk. He then conjured up flame arrows in the air, and blue fox ears appeared on his head. He threw the arrows down at Brandon, hitting him directly.

"Game over. 'The Unkillable' is the winner," a voice announced.

After the game, Shawn came to greet Adam and said, "Wow, you're stronger than I expected." Adam felt proud of himself for doing so well, and he couldn't wait to play again.

Adam played more and more, defeating everyone just as easily as before with his flame arrows. However, he faced a challenge when he had to fight a guy wearing a cat costume. He needed to defeat him for ten levels. Adam knew it was going to be hard because reaching level 40 would unlock his cat tails.

As the guy ran up to him with a sharp blade, Adam took damage for the first time.

"I can't believe you're still standing," the guy said, taunting him.

"You better believe it," Adam replied, gritting his teeth.

"Damn it, it's a demon weapon, no wonder I'm getting hurt," he thought, backing up and using Flam Rise and Flame wings to shoot little arrows at him from above. The guy reacted by making a shield out of earth and throwing little earth thorns at him.

"You're not so tough," the guy said, laughing.

Adam thought fast and used his wings to block the attack, throwing bolts of lightning and flame at him. The guy dodged, but Adam was ready for him and shot a massive fireball at him.

The guy was blown back, but he got up and charged at Adam again. This time, Adam was ready for him and used his tail to whip him. T

he guy stumbled but regained his footing and attacked again. Adam was getting tired, but he refused to give up. He used his wings to dodge the guy's attacks and shot more bolts of lightning and flame at him.

"Game over. The Unkillable wins," the game announced as he crashed to the ground.

"You're a worthy opponent," Adam said, extending his hand to help the guy up.

"Thanks," the guy said, smiling. "You're pretty good yourself." Adam smiled back, leaving the VR pod and going back to his dorm room to get some sleep.
