Chapter One Hundred and Four
Rain's heart thundered in her chest, each beat echoing her growing fear as she was separated from her family and led into the palace's shadowed corridors. She was attacked by the cold stares at those lining the hallways. Every face she passed seemed to radiate contempt, their side glares cutting through her like shards of glass.
Her gaze swept the unfamiliar faces until it landed on someone familiar—May. The young maid stood frozen in one of the corridors, her tear-filled eyes locked on Rain. There was a desperation in her expression, a helpless sorrow that tore at Rain's heart. Struggling to stay composed, Rain attempted a faint smile, hoping to offer her comfort.
"My lady!" May's anguished cry pierced through the tense air, drawing the attention of those nearby. Ignoring the imposing guards grabbing Rain, May stepped forward, her voice trembling but resolute. "My lady!"
