The appearance of monsters known by humans throught history, from big to small, these creature's have been apart of culture and tradition in every civilization. The appearance of Gates more than 400 years ago, solidified their held traditions and brought a primal fear to humanity.
Creature's couldn't just apear, however, through the tears in reality known as gates, going through a period of destabilization known as Chaosbreaks. These breaks occured at regular intervals of q few days and release the monsters into the world.
The appearance of these monsters brought the wide utilization of magic, powerfull elemental abilities gifted by the six Gods to combat this terror. These powers and the intervention of the gods brought centuries of change for the earth, resulting in peace and a single minded focused to eradicate monsters. Technology rose along with with magic, resulting in two powerful institutions rising in influence in the west, the Hunters Association and the United Federal Government onow as UFG.
Alexander watched the Goblins skitter around the troll that stood 7 feet tall, as the bushes and trees parted forcibly. It's huge grey mass, buried deep in the Islands earth, producing trip hazards whereever it stepped. Horns the size of a fully grown man spiraled out of its head towards its back.
A larger goblin around 4 feet tall held the troll steadily with a leather strap and a strange staff, forcing the troll around as he commanded the smaller Goblins to continue to attack. Their fear of their boss pushing them haphazardly forward.
Alexander felt better by the second, attributing it to adrenaline as he shot a stream of fire at every Goblin that got close. Their bodies twitched as he extend his fire on those who were caught, falling over in pain from the magical fire that clung like to them like oil.
'Conserve mana with bursts, that creature is dangerous and we need to survive.' The voice rationalized as he became to focus on the small fry.
He focused on shorter flames, directed evenly at multiple tagets. The pain from his stomach had receded completly. It was easy, once he realized that they still felt pain and would freeze up at the sight of other Goblins twisting and turning from the pain of fire. The five small Goblins soon fell before him and all was left was the leader-like goblin and the troll.
Alexanders senses began to dull from his exhaustive attacks, expending his mana so heavily in such a short time put extensive strain on his body. Normal muscle fatigue was nothing compared to mana exhaustion, it made even thinking hard, and breathing near shallow. Resting at this point was thought as the only solution.
"I am not dying here in this freaking clearing, you asshat! Your lackeys are toast so just leave if you wanna keep that pretty face of yours from melting.
'It looks like I'm at the disadvantage here, two against one. If they both press the attack I'll be a goner.' His hands trembled slightly with no weapon, low mana, and no one close enough to help. Alexander was desperate, haggard, slightly panicked, and thrilled at the same time. His heart was pounding against his chest as the onslaught of adrenaline coursed through him. He could die, and he knew, this could be the end.
He gathered his remaining mana within his core, drawing it into his hand in the form a dazzling black flame. Though he couldn't see it, his eyes also blazed with an ethereal green, with silver veins pulsing around them, unsettling the goblin.
The remaing goblin snickered as it pulled the chain and sent the troll forward. Trolls were not know for their intelligence but it knew what to do by the command of the goblin. Now it could taste fresh meat and not the old Goblins the others fed them every other month. It stomped forward, nearly crushing the goblin under its foot.
Alexander aimed at the trolls head as it came forward, firing an orb of Darkness that absorbed shadows as it spun towards the creature. Silver flecks and shadowy strings reached out from their places to combine in his magical ball shaping it like a bullet. It's only flaw was its speed at which it traveled, increasing with each sliver of power that added to its mass, untill it collided into the creature embedded into its head.
'My last shot was useless. I can barely feel my legs and I feel my body trembling. Atleast the troll is stunned for a while. My mana is nonexistent, any more use and it's game over.'
Aarr!
The Leader-like goblin yanked and pulled on the leather, frustrated at the creature. It wouldn't kill the human and now it disobeyed the tug. It would get the red flower to the head when they returned, it thought.
It pulled a spear it retrieved from the ground and shuffled towards Alexander, ready to get the humans meat. It made it past the troll on its hirt leg, readying to throw the spear when it felt a tug on the spear.
The goblin was more than frustrated that it had to kill the meat itself, but now had to to deal with a non-resposive spear. It turned around for an explanation when it found four of its subordinates grabbing at its spear, chewing at it.
Akkee!
Letting go of the spear, afraid of its disgusting underlings, it ordered them to attack the human. They ignored him and gurgled, continuing to chew and munch on the staff mindlessly.
It tried to punish them by beating and slapping them, kicking one and nearly slipping on its insides. The Goblins just chewed on the stick until a piece of something pierced the Goblins hand, drawing blood. It angrily shook its hands at them, receiving glares filled with hunger.
Ekkk!
The Goblins moved awkwardly towards their once leader, with burnt skin and tendons from the flame Alexander produced to incinerate them. They seemed near death or dead from their wounds, silver veins pulsed through the wounds while blue eyes blazed from their huge bulged eyes.
Alexander knew what these things were, "Undead!"
'Great, now I have undead to fight. If it's not one thing trying to end my life, it's another. Can I just live my life in peace.' He thought moving away from the scuffle as fast as he could.
The undead Goblins swarmed their former leader as It slammed leather straps against their bulbous heads as teeth tried nashing haphazardly at their former master.
The fight lasted awhile as Alexander put one numb leg after another to get away from the slow scuffle untill the noise of the Goblins turned into squelching and crunching. He turned around to see the undead Goblins finishing the goblin up and scurring towards him as he shuffled.
"Curse the gods!"
He shuffled faster, tripping slightly and tumbling near the bushes. He flipped over to his back and noticed the undead lining up towards him. "No! Stop!" He commanded, as he closed his eyes, waiting for f3elin of their sharp teeth.
He opened his eyes after a second and watched at the undead obeyed, stopping in line in front of him. Their blue eyes slightly flickered as their remaining skin dissolved by the weird silver goo that spread over them.
'What the..,' he thought as the undead, the leader goblin, and the troll slowly dissolved, bones and all, into the silvery goop.
His confusion did not end there as the liquid substance made its way to his numb exhausted body. He didn't feel any type of danger as it flowed closer, and it even felt nice when it touched him. The voice he listened to most of the time reassured him that the liquid was to be trusted, and as soon as it melded with his body, he felt mana surge back into him and his feeling return to him.
Alexander stood up and dusted himself off, looking at the clearing devoid of any bodies, with the only evidence being dirt and spears scattered around.
'There's a gate somewhere', the voice reminded him.
"Right, there's a gate somewhere. I better tell the others... and leave certain bits out." He said. He felt for any wounds on his body but even the spear wound had healed mysteriously. 'What is happening to me? What just happened?'
Sometime later, dusk.
"Over here, I've found it." Alexander shouted, alerting the rest of the group. He gathered his wits and returned to the others, telling them of his ambush in a believable way. They armed themselves and followed Alexander immediately, taking the weapons they had in the training area.
"Scanning the area with the drones, give me a nanosec, and done. You really did a number on them, I can barely find a trace of them. Training is paying off considerably according to thses magical fire burns. It looks like the trails lead near the hills by the beach. There are trails that seem a couple weeks old, so they have been in the area for awhile. I'm ashamed to say it, but I dropped the ball on the range for the sensors."
"Well let's see if I can't find them. Let a real hunter show her skills," Kalani spoke.
