The rest of the onlookers were surprised at the nonchalant tone in Patty's voice. After all, 100,000 Chains was the kind of money that could change a person's life. It was enough to buy a house, it was enough to put kids to college, and it was enough to live in luxurious moderation for the rest of their lives.
Yet from Patty's tone, it sounded as if that 100,000 Chains was like cheap change for him.
They then started to wonder if Patty was one of those young inheritors with millions upon millions of Chains under their wallets. Was Patty an inheritor of a really big group? Was he part of a royal family? Was he one of those transcendent talents?
Some of the reporters and journalists in the group were the most knowledgeable about those kinds of things. They knew who were the famous inheritors in the city: Griff Sunverk, Alexandra Von Cromich, Ezekiel Zephyr, and many more. These were the ones everybody knew to be part of the elite group.
However, when they took a look at Patty's face, they didn't recognize him. He wasn't part of the elite group in the school. They looked at his clothes and saw nothing impressive about it. It was made up of really cheap materials. And they didn't even see Patty perform at all in the Physicality Test, which meant that he probably didn't excel in it.
All in all, Patty wasn't the kind of person they would think that could label 100,000 Chains as cheap change.
"Young man, are you saying that you'll pay for the damages?" asked the officer.
Patty didn't want to argue anymore and simply asked the owner of the broken camera. "What's your bank account number?"
The man didn't know if Patty was serious. After all, he also judged Patty to be a poor student. He didn't look like a person who could shoulder the expenses of the damages. He even thought it was a scam. However, there was no way to scam someone just knowing their bank account number.
The police officer nodded towards him. With that, the man finally gave his bank account. "0948xxxxx"
Patty took out his phone and started to process the money transfer. "Okay, it's done. Let's go."
Patty didn't want to stay here any longer so he wanted things to go smoothly. He was willing to throw away 100,000 Chains just to expedite the whole situation so that Andres and the rest of the interns could chauffeur him back home.
That amount of money was cheap change for him. After all, he was a millionaire. He also had thousands more high-quality Kores in his Space Ring just waiting to be sold to the right buyer for two or three times the normal value. It wasn't an exaggeration to say that Patty was currently valued at a billion Chains or maybe even more.
"Wait, you can't go. I knew this was a scam! Get me my—"
The man thought that Patty was lying about paying for the damages, but then he suddenly saw a notification on his phone. It was an official text from the bank saying that 100,000 Chains were successfully transferred to his bank account.
"Is that enough?" Patty asked.
The man was speechless. ".....yes…" With the money in his bank account, he couldn't complain. And it couldn't be a scam message. After all, it had the official holographic seal of the bank itself.
Even the rest of the onlookers were surprised to know that Patty was telling the truth.
"Who's this guy?"
"How's he able to give out a hundred thousand just like that?"
"Is he a secret inheritor from a famous family or something?"
Everyone whispered amongst themselves as they secretly looked at Patty's face. They looked through their phones and searched the internet to try and find anything they could from Patty. They wanted to know if they were looking at a famous person.
However, they came up with nothing. Patty was like a ghost.
"Okay, problem solved," said the police officer.
And just as he was about to leave, Patty said, "Wait. I only paid for Jorn's fee. I never said I would be paying that guy's fee." He pointed at Mario, whose face quickly changed when he realized that he was still on the hook.
The police officer massaged his mustache. He thought things were finally over, but it turned out that it became more complicated. And just as he was about to say something.
"Officer, I also want to reward you for your efforts and your service to our city. What's your bank account?" The officer and the rest of the group couldn't believe it. He was trying to bribe the police officer!
The police officer stood there, with his arms crossed, not saying a word. He glared at Patty with his sunglasses.
"Oh, never mind. I saw your profile on the police website. I transferred the money now," Patty said as if he didn't care about bribing a police officer in broad daylight. Did he not see the glare from the officer?
The officer was going for his handcuffs when he suddenly saw a notification on his phone. He looked at it and both his eyebrows raised so much that they could finally see his eyes come out from his dark sunglasses.
He just saw 100,000 Chains transferred to his account!
Some nosy onlookers wanted to see how much Patty bribed the police officer for him to react that way. And when they saw the amount, they couldn't help but shriek.
"100,000 Chains! Again!"
In a span of 10 seconds, Patty just spent the equivalent of 4 years of a middle-class family income. How rich could he be that he was willing to give that much money as a bribe?! Their eyes changed and they looked at Patty with much more respect. It turned out that he wasn't as simple as they thought.
But no matter how much money he gave to the police officer, it was still a bribe. Everyone looked at the police officer, waiting to see his reaction.
Once the surprise wore off, the officer coughed and tried to calm himself down. He then took out the handcuffs on his belt and walked towards Patty.
"As expected…it's illegal to bribe a police officer."
"Even if it's a lot of money, justice can't be bought—"
They all thought that the police officer would arrest Patty, but instead, he walked past him and arrested Mario!
"Don't you worry, sir! I will make sure that this criminal will face the charges that he deserves. You don't have to come to the precinct. I'll handle all of that for you!" the police officer saluted Patty as he dragged Mario towards his hoverbike.
The rest of the onlookers had their jaws on the floor. It turned out that you could buy justice, as long as you had enough money.
"No! Get your hands off me! I'm innocent! I can't pay for that!" Mario screamed as he was towed on the back of the hoverbike.
"Then you'll have to work for it," said the police officer. "You'll have to work hard labor for a year for you to pay off your debt."
WANG WANG
The police siren went off as the officer rode off to the precinct. He didn't forget to salute Patty before he left.
Once everything was settled, Jorn went over to Patty with his head down, completely embarrassed. He didn't know how he'd be able to repay that much money. He already owed Patty a lifetime of servitude just for the Teqx itself. But now, it looked like even in his reincarnation, Jorn would be in his debt.
But Patty simply waved off his concern. "Eh, it's nothing. Forget about it."
Jorn couldn't believe the generosity of his leader. "Thank you, boss!"
"How could you not try to hold yourself back?" Dom asked Jorn.
"All's well that ends well. In the end, Mario got what's coming to him." Roni said. "And it's all thanks to our boss."
The rest of the onlookers were surprised to find out that the three dark horses, the three most impressive performers in the Physicality Test today, were calling someone like Patty their boss. They were transcendent talents who could even join Atlas Incorporated if they wanted to. But instead, they seemed to be working under Patty.
Even though Patty was extremely rich, the dark horses' fangirls couldn't believe that they were working under someone like Patty. In their fantasies, these three dark horses were all working for themselves, building their own companies.
Why were so respectful to someone so…unimpressive?
Just then, a commotion happened behind everyone. Some girls were screaming and shrieking as if they had just seen their favorite idol.
Everyone looked behind to see someone extremely beautiful. She had a natural beauty that could not be bought or made. Not only that, she looked extremely expensive. She was wearing a black dress that the experts realized was a new exclusive product from a luxury brand. And when they evaluated all the accessories she was wearing…
They realized that she was wearing at least ten million Chains on her!
"Alexandra Von Cromich…" the rest of the group looked on at her with awe. She was one of the elites in the city.
She walked naturally, and with every step, people would back down to give her space. But where was she going?
She continued to walk towards the group until she finally reached her destination.
"Have you missed me, my darling?" Xandra said as she greeted Patty with a very sunny smile.
