Patty smiled when he received all of the new notifications from the system. After he went home yesterday, he never left the room again. He stayed all day yesterday, and he will stay in his bed all day today again! And he would continue this amazing free time for as long as he could. By doing as little as he could without spending energy, Patty was able to save them up and use them to buy 9 summon scrolls a day!
And the fruits of his hard labor finally bore some fruit. On the seventh day anniversary of his merge with the system, he was given a free S-class minion without even doing anything! And the best part about it was that he still had at least 40 more summon scrolls that he could burn through today! That meant he could realistically get another S-class minion. It was just basic statistics, right?
The first thing he noticed from the system was that it finally changed its resolution. His full body 100/100 upgrade must have also updated the virtual world because it went from an 8-bit image to a 16-bit image! He could now see his minions with so much more detail and clarity. Although this upgrade didn't do much in terms of benefits, it made his life so much better. He was getting tired of seeing low-quality pixels from the system like he was playing an old-school game from ancient history.
Patty looked at the S-class Diplomatic Slime he received for free. Even though it was high class, he didn't see anything out of the ordinary with it. It looked like a normal green slime with no discerning features. That was it.
"Is this it? This is an S-class minion?"
As if it heard him, the slime turned to Patty and looked downtrodden at his comment. "I'm hurt, master. How could you treat your loyal minion like this?"
HUH? For some reason, Patty felt like he heard something talk. Was it the system? Did it start to play some songs again? Patty looked at the television and saw that it was turned off. Where did he hear that coming from?
"Where are you looking at, master? I'm here in front of you!" the slime said.
Patty couldn't believe that the slime was talking to him as if it was real.
"I am real! I'm real!" the slime insisted.
But how could it be real? Patty thought that minions were nothing more than illusions that the system showed him. After all, nobody seemed to notice the Muscava minion whenever he took it out. So, he thought that it was just a projection that the system put into his eyes. But somehow, this slime was able to understand him and talk to him even! And for a second, Patty thought it was sulking like a real human.
"Are you just a slime?" Patty asked.
The slime bounced up and down on the screen in happiness. "Yes, master. I am your loyal diplomatic slime. My job is to make your kingdom grow larger using peace and diplomatic ties. I detest violence, my master."
Patty nodded as he inspected the description of the S-class slime. The difference between A-class and S-class must be very different because his A-class Muscava minion can't talk while this S-class slime could converse with him like a normal human. Were all S-class minions capable of high intelligence and speech, or was it just because of the slime's ability that it was able to converse like a human? Since the slime could answer him, then he decided to pose this question to the slime itself.
"I'm not sure, master. I do know that only S-class minions are capable of speech, but not all S-class minions can speak. Some aren't capable of speech, but they are extremely talented in other aspects, I'm sure."
Patty was satisfied with that answer. It made sense.
"Then, since you are an S-class minion, you can come into the real world, right?"
"Yes, master." The slime then jumped out of the system screen and surprised Patty. It suddenly landed on his shoulder and cuddled with his soft hair. "Ah, the air here is so refreshing!"
"Wow, a little warning next time."
"Hehe, sorry master." The slime was as big as his head, and he was intrigued to see that the slime didn't feel slimy at all. It felt like he was cuddling with a silicon bag that was used to enhance two female parts to make them bigger, not that Patty experienced that of course, he was just guessing.
"Cool. Can you touch this remote?" Patty wanted to see if the slime could interact with the real world. That would be definitive proof that a minion was a real thing, not just a projection of the system.
And sure enough, when Patty put the remote on top of the slime, it dented the top of the slime like the slime was made out of water. The slime was real! The minions were real! He was once again impressed by the system that could summon minions like these. Not only that, all of them gave him some sort of ability that he could upgrade.
"Speaking of which, what's your ability?" Patty asked.
"I can assimilate anything and become anything! But since I am still low-level, AHEM AHEM, I can only give you the ability to assimilate a small object about the size of a fingernail. If you use that ability, then you will learn everything about that object: the material, the size and dimension, the uses, and the method to create them."
The slime was a cheeky one. "Okay, I'll upgrade your level once I get the time."
"Hooray! Thank you, master."
"But since you can just assimilate it yourself, why do I have to do it? Can't you just appear and do it for me?"
The slime then deflated, as if he didn't want to give Patty the bad news. "I could, Master. But I won't be available all the time."
Patty frowned. "Why?"
"It's because I'll be very busy in the virtual world, master. I have to be the one to guide your kingdom through its infancy. Right now, the Flag Bearer minion has just established a location to start your kingdom. It will be best to capitalize on this early period and start building out defenses and facilities."
Patty was overwhelmed with all of that information. He didn't even know he was building a kingdom, much less rule over it. "What? I don't have the energy and time to rule a kingdom!" He was far too lazy to even manage himself, much more a whole kingdom. There was no way that he would be able to manage all that.
"Exactly, master. Your minions are going to be the ones to help you build your kingdom for you. And since I am the most qualified to lead your minions and your subjects, I will have my hands full managing all of them."
"Hmm…" Patty understood that. But… "But why do I have to have a kingdom?"
The slime was happy and ready to explain. "The reason is because #^$)%)!*@"
Patty suddenly felt an annoying ringing in his ears, not dissimilar to Grammo's singing. He couldn't even hear one word of what the slime said. And soon after that, the slime was suddenly sucked back into the system screen despite its protests.
"Sorry master," the slime apologized back in its 16-bit world. "It looks like this is a secret that the prince–"
The system forcibly closed the screen to make sure that the slime didn't spill out any more secrets that Patty didn't need to know. Although Patty was curious, he was too lazy to investigate things he didn't care about. As long as he could be lazy, the system could have all the secrets it can.
