Due to the presence in Petalburg Woods that forced many wild Pokémon to flee in panic, Rex decided not to rush in impulsively. He planned to first meet up with Yuli and the others, then contact Officer Jenny for more details.
Soon, Rex arrived at his home and found the Pokémon left behind were outside, either playing or guarding the area.
When they noticed Rex had returned, they all gathered around him. Teddiursa wagged its tail so fast it became a blur, while Combusken and Carbink circled around him as usual, and Sandslash extended its claw in greeting.
"Boss, you're back?"
At this moment, Yuli and the other two women heard the commotion and ran out from the house, showing expressions of joy upon seeing Rex.
These past few days had scared them. Normally, everything at the farm was in order, and they happily gathered in front of the TV to cheer for their boss. Every time Rex won a match, they would jump and cheer with joy.
However, a few days ago, wild Pokémon from Petalburg Woods, for unknown reasons, began attacking the outskirts of Fallarbor Town, changing everything.
At first, a large number of wild Pokémon attempted to attack Rex Farm. Fortunately, they were repelled by the Swellow group. However, the women witnessed the bloody scenes of the wild Pokémon battles, where both sides suffered casualties.
Rex Farm's greatest advantage was its strong logistics. As long as the Pokémon were not killed on the spot, they could be healed by the Victreebel in the Grassy Terrain, and Yuli and the others provided Pokeblocks for sustained combat.
Thus, they successfully repelled the wild Pokémon attack that day, making them hesitant to intrude further into the area.
Of course, a few stubborn wild Pokémon continued to break in but were all killed by the Swellow.
Because of this, Rex Farm had stabilized in the past few days. Yuli had been hesitant about whether to inform Rex immediately about the situation.
After all, she knew her boss's personality. Upon hearing about this, he would surely abandon the competition and return to Rex Farm immediately.
"Yuli, thank goodness you told me about this yesterday. If I hadn't returned in time, the consequences would have been unimaginable."
After greeting everyone, Rex said with some fear.
Then, Rex briefly explained what he had observed from the sky and his speculations.
Hearing that they might face an even more terrifying wild Pokémon attack than before, Yuli and the others turned pale. Especially Yuli, who now felt relieved about making the right decision.
Rex then released his main battle Pokémon. He needed to set up an impenetrable defense line for his farm.
First, he instructed Swellow to return to its group to stabilize the disturbances caused by the previous battles and set up a tighter defense. He believed that with Swellow's involvement, the group's morale would significantly improve.
He also arranged for some Taillow to throw berries towards the west side of Jade Moon Lake. This would extend the time the wild Pokémon, driven by hunger, might take to attack, giving him more time to find the source of the crisis.
Swellow nodded and flew towards the orchard.
Next, Rex instructed Politoed, Milotic, and Gyarados to assist Politoed's group in guarding Jade Moon Lake, preventing wild Pokémon from entering the farm via the water. They could also monitor and deter the wild Pokémon on the west side of the lake, ready to deliver a fatal blow with the Swellow group if needed.
At this critical moment, Rex shed his usual kindness and returned to his more primal state. He remembered when he first arrived in this world, relying solely on Taillow for hunting.
After integrating into human society, Rex had hidden this wildness, becoming kind and helpful. However, this was only under the condition that his life was not threatened, and now he felt a threat.
Yuli and the others watched Rex assigning tasks to the Pokémon, seeing a different, more determined side of him, which gave them an unprecedented sense of security. The weight of the past few days lifted from their hearts.
Rex then instructed Flaaffy to return to its group, as Mareep was crucial to Rex Farm's economy.
He kept Heracross and Machoke by his side to prevent powerful wild Pokémon from infiltrating the farm using moves like Teleport or Dig.
Sandslash was sent to monitor underground activities and intercept any wild Pokémon attempting to dig their way in. It was glad to be finally able to move freely after days of staying near the house for protection.
After arranging all the Pokémon, Rex felt confident that Rex Farm was safe from anything short of a massive wild Pokémon attack.
However, there was more to do. Rex needed to contact Officer Jenny to inquire about the cause of the anomaly in Petalburg Woods.
"Officer Jenny, do you know anything about the recent anomaly in Petalburg Woods?"
Rex asked directly after dialing her number.
"Rex, aren't you supposed to be participating in the Ever Grande Conference?"
Officer Jenny's voice sounded tired, clearly indicating she hadn't rested well in recent days.
"I'm back at the farm. With such a serious issue, I couldn't stay at the competition."
Rex replied.
"It seems Yuli decided to tell you after all. The situation is complicated. I'll come to your farm directly."
Upon learning Rex had returned, Officer Jenny's spirits lifted.
She had been busy lately with most farms in the suburbs facing wild Pokémon attacks. Fortunately, her Arcanine's speed allowed her to arrive in time for rescue.
