Chapter 196 - Chapter 196: Discussing Countermeasures

Soon, Officer Jenny arrived at Rex Farm riding her majestic Arcanine. However, unlike her usual spirited appearance, she seemed quite haggard, clearly indicating she hadn't been doing well lately.

"Officer Jenny, are you alright? You look so pale."

Rex asked with concern when he saw Officer Jenny in such a state after coming out to check on the commotion outside.

"I'm fine, just a bit exhausted from lack of sleep these past few days."

Officer Jenny rubbed her eyes and reassured him.

In recent days, there had been numerous reports of wild Pokémon attacking farms and pedestrians. Even in Fallarbor Town, wild Pokémon occasionally intruded into residents' homes.

Officer Jenny had been acting as a firefighter, constantly rushing to various places for rescue, which severely cut into her rest time.

The key issue was that she was the only police officer in Fallarbor Town. On normal peaceful days, this wasn't a problem. However, when a crisis affecting the entire town's safety arose, the shortage of manpower became immediately apparent.

The current crisis had been escalating over time. The wild Pokémon invasions hadn't decreased but were increasing, making it hard for Officer Jenny to manage.

Fortunately, the support she had requested from Slateport City arrived yesterday, temporarily relieving her from her relentless efforts. With this new force joining in, the wild Pokémon invasions in Fallarbor Town had been temporarily controlled.

However, unless the root cause of the problem was resolved, wild Pokémon would continue to pour into Fallarbor Town, making it increasingly difficult to handle.

Therefore, when she received Rex's call, Officer Jenny was thrilled and rushed over immediately. After all, Rex was the most powerful trainer she could turn to.

Rex and Officer Jenny then exchanged the information they had, hoping to find clues to resolve the crisis.

Rex learned from Officer Jenny that there was a strange aura in Petalburg Woods. The deeper into the forest, the stronger this aura became.

Wild Pokémon originally living in Petalburg Woods had been forced to leave their homes due to the oppressive aura, fleeing towards the forest outskirts.

Unfortunately, even Officer Jenny's Arcanine couldn't withstand the increasingly strong aura to find its source.

Although Arcanine had a higher resistance to the aura than most wild Pokémon, it would reach a point of panic, ignoring Officer Jenny's commands and fleeing based on its survival instincts.

Since that incident, whenever Officer Jenny tried to get Arcanine to explore the aura's source, it would instinctively avoid it, squatting down and refusing to move no matter how much Officer Jenny coaxed or scolded it.

However, Rex found some good news in this: the aura didn't affect humans. The bad news was that humans couldn't sense the aura, so without the help of a Pokémon to guide them, finding the source in the vast Petalburg Woods was like finding a needle in a haystack.

To find the source of the aura quickly, they needed a Pokémon that could resist the aura to lead the way.

Officer Jenny also learned from Rex about the potential for a wild Pokémon beast tide, which raised her awareness of the crisis's severity.

Although she was reluctant to acknowledge Rex's prediction, it was clear that once the wild Pokémon exhausted the food in the suburbs, they would inevitably move towards Fallarbor Town for survival.

At that point, the safety of Fallarbor Town residents couldn't be guaranteed, so they had limited time to resolve the issue.

The pressure on Officer Jenny was immense. She had to rush back to Fallarbor Town for emergency defense and report the issue to the Pokémon Alliance to request more support.

At that moment, a faint green light emanated from a valley deep within Petalburg Woods, originating from a small figure lying unconscious on a cold rock.

"Officer Jenny, I plan to go to Petalburg Woods to investigate the source of the anomaly."

Through their conversation, Rex knew that finding the source of the anomaly in Petalburg Woods was the only way to quell the disaster. To protect Rex Farm's safety, he decided to take the risk.

"Please be careful. I hope you can find the source of this anomaly. I will certainly request recognition from the Hoenn League for you."

Officer Jenny said seriously to Rex.

After sharing all the information she had, Officer Jenny didn't stay long and returned to Fallarbor Town, where many issues awaited her.

Rex didn't rush to set off immediately. Having been on the move since the morning, he was already famished.

He decided to have lunch at home and then asked Yuli and the other women to prepare some food and water for him, as he didn't know how long he would stay in Petalburg Woods.

To ensure Rex Farm had enough strength to withstand wild Pokémon attacks during his absence, Rex decided to take Swellow and Machoke with him, along with Haunter, which often hid in his shadow.

Rex believed these Pokémon were the best candidates to resist the mysterious aura.

Swellow had never let him down, and Rex trusted it wouldn't this time. Machoke's unique way of thinking, demonstrated by its rigorous daily training, also made it a reliable choice.

Soon, Yuli and the others prepared a delicious meal, then went back to the kitchen to make some portable and preservable food for Rex.

Facing the table full of delicious food, Rex didn't hold back and ate heartily. After consuming most of the food, he finally stopped, satisfied, and patted his slightly bulging stomach.

"Don't worry, I will solve this anomaly and restore peace to Rex Farm."

Rex assured the three women, who looked at him with worried expressions.

With everything ready, Rex climbed onto Swellow's back and waved goodbye to the women before signaling Swellow to set off.

Following the command, Swellow flapped its wings gently, and their figures soon appeared in the distant sky, flying quickly towards Petalburg Woods.

Yuli and the others watched their boss disappear into the sky, silently praying for his safe return.
