Soon after his passing, Renee learned the true nature of his death through a journal he kept under tight lock and key.
With it came the details of the afflictions that not only plagued him in death but the consequences that led to his death.
You see Noah was in league with a group of people who go by the name of 'Robed'.
Officials from the Front Office who acted in secret to carry out the whims of the cathedral. It was them who put up the ads, and them who Noah first turned to when his health started to take a turn for the worst as well as when the news of a wonder drug first came to light.
The robed are not officially acknowledged by the front office though, and this is despite many people claiming they'd seen them enter the front office and even give out quests at the front desk.
Perhaps the robes really aren't contracted to the Front Office, or maybe... the Front Office just doesn't care nearly enough about what the peasants of the slum say.
It is their word against the peasants after all.
The drug that Noah took at his end actually contained more detereoxite than the initial cream. And the reason it was circulated was because the initial test with the cream did not yield enough results.
The wonder drug, as it was called, was meant to give Noah's employers the full picture of just how detereoxite affected living organisms. This means that different doses, varying amounts of detereoxite were put in each set of drugs volunteers took.
...By that metric, I guess you could say Noah just had shitty luck in picking the set that had a higher dose.
That aside, from Noah's journal, Renee learned that Noah had begun to gather information on these 'robed'. And had even documented their sightings and anything he could hear or learn from people all around the slum.
Noah wasn't completely a loss, for he in his final days, used what little money he had to try and set things right for everyone.
To uncover the truth behind the robes to the people of the slum.
...Except, the robes weren't actually a secret.
They didn't hide or act shady at all, they were just never acknowledged by the Front Office... so why was Noah so fixated on them?
Either way the journal made one thing clear, the robes existed in the underbelly of the city to further fuel life on the surface.
Their main task was to be the foot soldiers for whatever desires the cathedral had...
From the journal, Renee learned that the robes were torturers.
People who were tasked with keeping the order by spying on the population from the ground. They moved in secret, and carried out their missions undercover as they scrutinized everyone who lived under the watchful goddess' rule.
Outliers were punished, any and all who strayed too far were brought back in line. And propaganda was pushed, by word of mouth all around to the unsuspecting public.
The robes stayed faithful to the cities rites of passage, it's ecosystem. And pushed, nudged, beat directed everyone round that cycle to run the realm.
There was no drug, and there was no anti-aging cream.
Only ploys to see the effects of detereoxite, only means to further the realm at large.
Noah was a guinea pig, and he wasn't the first.
The robes have been in Hatchett's city since it's inception and though the realm answers to the Demon-lord Supreme, everyone in Hatchett's city answers to the Minister of Hatchett, Samael.
That is why the people are so removed from his lordship that they don't even recognise his son, their future ruler as he strolls the streets beside them.
This section of the realm might as well be cut off from the rest of the realm, because here, the only ruler who is absolute is Samael.
... As Renee continued to dig she began to learn of practices that exist in the glass dome.
Of the true lifestyle of those who inherit lifetime tickets to the famed imperial dome.
Barbarians.
They are nothing but barbarians.
Orgies, cannibalism, drugs... the state of things in the imperial dome is all functioned towards indulging in the most disgusting rituals and materialistic desires one can imagine.
The famed city is nothing but a disgusting cesspool of addicts who know not what to do with their lives but indulge in desires of the flesh.
It was at this point that Renee decided enough was enough.
She had read all she could.
She had learned and heard all she could.
Seeing that demon's name was the final straw, seeing Madame Wednesday as an integral figurehead of the city was the turning point. And Wednesday wasn't alone either...
Beside her name was another familiar name, Bael.
The demon who damned her bloodline to slave for generations over.
He was here too, and a guest on the coveted high council that sat atop the entire city.
Bael was the one in charge of the drugs, mined and distributed from his mines, Wednesday? The food, women, men, children.... she was in charge of occasioning the consistent flow of play toys.
And at the head of it all was Samael, the one tasked with enjoying his power, abusing it to his hearts content for the sake of restoring feeling to his feeble body.
They're sick.
All of them.
The discoveries Renee made she decided to keep to herself for there was no one else here who could shoulder the burden of the sins that occurred in the realms holy city.
She decided she needed leave this place, not only for her but for Cindy too. Who now only had her to rely on.
A part of her wished to thank her brother for ever taking in Cindy, because had he not... who knows what Madame Wednesday would have done.
The reason why the capital is losing money is because its all been sent to the imperial dome.
It's all been spent to sate the desires of sick people who should be nowhere near the throne.
Since these demons cared not for what they did.
For who they hurt and by extension their families.
Renee was also done caring, she was done listening to legality.
That was when she started to act out, not like a Robin Hood that stole from the rich to give to the poor.
But more like a rat, who scurried and ran to escape the claws of it's owner.
She stole, she ran, and she hid.
Renee was a rat who stayed in the sewers and feared what would happen to her if she ever left.
She was a rat, who realised she had been trapped and one wrong move could mean she or Cindy would be the prey those sickos would latch onto next.
That was when Renee met the twins, that was when...
".... around that time was when we first met big sis."
Tai, chewing slow from her last piece bread and taking a sip of water, exclaims slow and steady in a sombre and serious tone when...
"...we ourselves had just come down from Mount Entereo, so the timing couldn't have been--" She is stopped suddenly by Tay's outstretched.
"Tay?"
"I think that's enough sis, they get the idea."
The younger sibling says slow as he keeps gaze focussed on the figure sat at the window side.
"..."
"So... now that you know about big sis Renee's struggles." He says softly, "What do you plan to do about it, oh fair and gracious lord of Ashgate."
The twin says mocking Kasper.
...Not wise, never wise to mock one as calculating and in as advantageous a position as him.
However... perhaps this once..
Just this once.
He might let it slide...
