Chapter 1335 - 11

Chapter 11: Dragon Age Civil War

Notes:

AN: Edited in a bit of a hurry, but I just wanted this out after so much time spent on it. I was never good at fight scenes and everything took me ages...

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

I woke up nice and warm, which is nice for living in a tent. One of those big ones, reserved for generals on campaigns or some such. This was the Avvar equivalent but my people would not let me live in something the Fereldan lords provided – it was enough that I decided not to teleport home and sleep in the army camp instead. My Alamarri appreciated that I lived among them, we had a big part of the encampment for ourselves. We could do our religious rites without getting the stink eye from the believers in the Chantry doctrine, have our parties be comfortable. I could also 'lure' some of the more promising officers and nobles into the quarter, make them see how we live and bring them around to our way of thinking. Mind Mage for the win, like always. Nothing big though, I was generating enough of belief and good-will by simply doing what I was doing for the war. Plus I was the best, THE best support, on the battlefield and I spent quite a lot of time with the wounded, healing. That Skill was by the way maxed, and I got a few more by building on it while observing the other healers. I never bothered before but they were nice Skills just the same.

Also, in the interest of saving time and being able to do my own stuff, I thought up a few amazing wards, number one among them being the [Healing Ward]. That was the name but I would call it regeneration ward or health-boosting ward. It was a very small but persistent heal to all within its confines. It didn't work on darkspawn contamination, of course, so I simply did another ward. That one was hard to craft but it was quite an achievement, plus it boosted my acclaim and worship immensely. Ha, take that Chantry, try to decry my [Cleansing Ward]!

One more ward worth mentioning is the [Truth Ward], which, unsurprisingly, forbids lying in an area. Super fun. Especially since it led to a rumor that it was my presence alone that compelled people to tell the truth. Awesome. My legend was growing. Pity though that the ward worked on me too… Oh well, not like I had it active all too often. The peasants will believe it but the nobles will try it and often 'get away with stuff', or so they will think because Mind Mage is still the best Class ever.

Doubly so in this environment – I had decided to let this civil war play through by itself. I left most of the decisions on the various generals and nobles, chief amongst them Byland and Anora, and I mostly occupied myself with spreading my influence and boosting my popularity. In short, I was playing the long game. It sure will be better not to look like a war-crazed bloodthirsty one-woman army when the Exalted March comes knocking. I also want people relying on themselves, help me out rather than expect help from me – I want my armies to fight Orlais, I don't want to do it myself. I like having free time for my various projects.

Or sleeping in – with a grin I stretch luxuriously before further burrowing into my furs. I went to sleep snuggled into Margit with Wolfy quietly snoozing in a corner but nobody was around at the moment. Both my Hounds were probably doing rounds or something, being diligent and early risers. Hedwig was similarly with Karasuba I would guess, having bonded way beyond what I thought probable. Myself though, I liked to laze around these days when exping isn't as dire. Sure, my Gamer status made it so I wake up refreshed and only after a few hours but that doesn't mean I have to get out of my comfy bed. Nowadays System waited when I finally decided to start my day with its usual HP and CP notification.

You have slept in your camp bed! HP & CP Restored by 100%

Case in point.

Wait for it…

My eyebrows rose. I knew System well enough by now to wait patiently and not to pester it with questions. It looked mostly positive anyway.

Wait for it…

With a small sigh I began using one of the rags by the water basin to quickly wash myself a little and then dress for the day. Heck I didn't even equip stuff from Inventory but actually dressed myself as I waited as my friend, because yeah, System was kind of a friend, said.

Aaaand done. Thank your troops, or darkspawn I guess.

'Wait, you mean…'

Sky-Chosen Class has leveled up

Class MAXed!

You may select a new Class

I barely contained the shout and instead just danced around like a loon, 'thinking' loudly 'Yes! Yes! Yes! YES!'

The raid is still inprogress by the way

'YES! Hahahahahahaha!'

Not that you care I see

'HahahahahahHA! This is awesome!'

Well, I guess your people can take care of it by themselves well enough

Still…

Please select a Class

[Fighter] [Rogue] [Mage] [Support]

That finally manages to get me out of my party mode. I am still grinning but my mind is already more occupied by actually useful thoughts. Not that they are really needed at this point – I already have a plan for this selection and have no intention of deviating from it. Especially since Sky-Chosen was a special Class so nothing new would take its place. And even if there was a Sky-Chosen III, I wouldn't take it. Great gains but it got way too boring. It is time to select something new.

[Cleric] [Bard] [ Alchemist ] [ Fleshcrafter ] [ Artificier ] [ Hacker ] [ Artist ]

And it is the Alchemist's turn. Definitely. Why? Because I can learn really well from books and teachers and Dragon Age has both of those aplenty. My plan is actually maxing the Class as fast as I can, get all the goodies and then select yet another Class. Sure, as with all the Support Classes I will go back and work on it more, but right now I want quick progress. Getting another hundred in Sky-Chosen made me crave this speed. Plus, Alchemist would be a good use of resources. And a good conversation piece with Morrigan when she finally joins up.

The Class change gets me +2 INT and 0,1 LCK, the standard yield for its level, and then [Potion Making] and [Ingredients Appraisal] which is nice. I kinda expected getting [Poison Making], which I already had at max, so no gain. But this is loads better! Plus with my Intuitive Perk I start them at level 10 already, so cool. I even got a Minor Health Potion recipe for free!

Alchemist – nice, quick, easy and handy. I'm already loving it. Status!

Awesome. Right? Right?

'System? '

So awesome

'More enthusiasm!'

So awesome

'Still a little dry but thanks for playing along'

Jokes aside, it is awesome. If a little unbalanced. But no matter, I kinda want to reach that thousand in INT, since I'm so close, get the Perk for it because it surely will have one – it follows the pattern, 100, 200, 500, 1000 – and then I will concentrate on another Stat for a little while. I am thinking Dexterity. Speed and reflexes are vital when fighting against anyone close to your level. Like surely I will cream Mythal with it. Magical might is great, and absolutely necessary against her, but speed will get me the edge. Plus, who knows what Universe I will go in next. I actually do want some excitement for the next one, building stuff and leading a nation to conquer the world is great but I think I'll go for something more action-packed next. Will see at the jump selection, there gotta be something that will tickle my fancy.

But hey, with my Luck, and spell damage, I can get by a Rogue Class is going to be next I think. Gunslinger perhaps? I could go for a modern universe.

Alchemist first though. I have some books in my library in Ostagar already, so I will stop there for a minute. Then I might hang around one of my Alamarri herbalists and potion-makers once I get the basics down.

Best of all, I have time for all that since Conqueror as my secondary Class continues to get me exp. Case in point, my growth by two levels since the first battle against Loghain back at the Wooden Fort. That was like a few weeks ago! TWO LEVELS! Way better than me slaving in some dungeon killing little monsters for little exp. Let my soldiers generate exp for me. My Servants too, the percentage I get that way is even better. I kinda want more battles… If two big ones and a few skirmishes gets me this, then I'm all for prolonging this a little. Alas, it will soon come to an end. Loghain has retreated, getting himself a pretty good position sure, but now he has to deliver. Ergo, the civil war will soon be over. But I need not despair, the darkspawn are still here, the Archdemon is probably waiting for us to finish killing ourselves before he makes a move. Smart.

Pity I won't know just how many exp the Archdemon himself would yield… Better let the Wardens kill it as usual, so it actually stays dead. If I killed him he'd probably possess another darkspawn and I wouldn't get the exp for him since he would still exist. I might drain his soul somehow, like I plan to do with Flemeth, but I don't think it's worth it at the moment. Should Morrigan decide to trap that soul instead,as per that one path in Origins though… then he's fair game. But I actually don't care enough to force it either way – let Morrigan and the Warden duo decide what they want to generous of me. As for the chief Blighter, no need to reinvent the wheel. The Wardens need the spotlight anyway. Well, if they don't die. Hope not.

Anyway, two levels meant two gacha per my Perk which I spun immediately.

The first thing I got didn't excite me in the least – the Skill Book [Photosynthesis]. Which is fancy speak for enhanced HP regen during the day. A set amount, even, not a big one either. Or it's just the fact that my HP is rather respectable these days, it would surely have made a difference back in HotD or BokuHero. So all in all, not excited.

Second gacha got me something much better at least. [Azura's Star]. Having a very sturdy and safe soul container will come in handy, soon even as per my current World Quest my target is Flemeth. Or Solas, in both situations I can imagine my new Item being handy. I still don't have a perfect soul trap but I can still use it. My Mokuton chakra/whatever transfer works but it takes quite a while and I don't think Flementh for example is going to stay still when I start to drain her. But it works well on her horcruxes, which is good for me at the moment. But I need to work on it for sure.

Now that I think about it, in fantasy worlds alchemy is usually potion making but that's not really what the term means. Alchemy is a lot of, admittedly advanced, stuff – like making a homunculus. Immortality througha philosopher stone even, not to mention gold. And that is just the big known examples. Especially the homunculus is adjacent to soul stuff, at least in my belief, so I might actually find a soul trap that way. But, to be honest, I am not in any kind of hurry for that. Right now I plan to max the Class doing potions and leave any big experimentation for a different time. Production Classes are the best and worst in this aspect – you always have a way to improve, you are never really done. Like I am still having a blast with Blacksmith. Though now that I'm traveling with the army I let that be for a little and concentrated on Wardmaster, even done some enchanting on the side. And once I reach a more modern universe, I'm definitely switching back to Engineer – I only skimmed the surface with that. Hacker is another Class that got added in the Support category and I definitely have plans there too. So definitely a lot of study and experimentation in the future. Much more than just the 'normal' classes. But I guess it makes sense, need to keep the Gamer occupied throughout their long journey. And I definitely plan on mine being very long indeed. I am very much liking the idea of the Philosopher's Stone now that I think about it… But that is master level, no, great grand master level, but definitely a good project to concentrate on.

But first, I have to brew that my first potion. Look at me, making grand plans while I didn't even make the most basic fantasy game potion. Time to change that.

With a thought I teleport myself to my office in Ostagar, approaching my book shelves with a hum. I definitely need more books, those are the ones me and Haku stole while on our 'shopping trips'. My barbarians don't really appreciate books, being more keen on oral tradition, so I had to look elsewhere. It would be nice to have a proper library. Anyway, I do have some potions stuff here, I'm sure of it.

I smile a little when I finally find three books that will help me. Let's start leveling!

"Sky-Chosen?" the surprisingly bulky herbalist asks gently, trying to get my attention. I would totally reply if not for the notifications I just received which pretty much bluescreened my brain. I do have the capacity of mind to recognize I probably look like a fool in front of one of my most skilled healer/alchemists but I can't bring myself to even close my mouth.

"Shy-Chosen!" he tries again, this time with more urgency.

It's when he shakes me that I finally regain some composure "I apologize. Something came up."

"A vision form the Lady of the Skies?" the man's eyes widen and he hastily drops his hands that still gripped my shoulders.

I smile enigmatically at him, not confirming but nor denying it either. Naturally, he takes that as an assent and his awe of me is almost palpable even without my Mind Mage passive empathy scan. It's fun but I don't have time for it right now. I need to think and ask some very pointed questions to System.

And here I just started learning form the man… Oh well, I will return soon, my Alchemist Class is only at level 7, so 43 levels to go. I'll be back.

I incline my head a little in apology "I must go, I am sorry for my abruptness but I need to address something. If you would still be willing, I would like to continue our lessons later. If you will have the time."

"I always have time for the Sky Chosen!" Then he clears his throat and says a little more calmly and in a tone that no longer resembles a deranged zealot "I mean, I always have the time for anyone eager to one that shows such a promise – I have never seen anyone pick the craft up with such speed."

"Thank you for the compliment. I shall be back then. Again, I apologize for my rudeness" I say, feeling genuinely bad for having to leave. I need to be alone right now but the man was very busy indeed and I bothered him only to flee an hour later. Rude.

Teleporting to my office in Ostagar I settle in the lone comfy chair and mentally inform my Servants of both my whereabouts and that I will be busy, so not to bother me unless things are dire. And then I finally focus on the notifications. System hid it when I was talking to the alchemist but I brought it back up now.

It was unchanged but still confusing.

You have gained a Class level!

+2 INT, +0,1 LCK

You have achieved 1000 in a Stat (INT)!

You have gained the [Overcharge] perk!

Achievement [Specialized] reached!

[SURPRISE EVENT] has been triggered!

[SURPRISE EVENT] has been delayed due to System judgment

Mandatory Status Conversion in process!

Please hold!

"System?" I actually speak out loud, "What. The. Hell."

Sorry, this one is from upstairs. I don't have much to do with it

"That's yet another piece of information I don't really know what it means" I say calmly, though System, being pretty much inside me for all intents and purposes, definitely knew about the mix of anger, fear, anger and disbelief. Did I mention anger?

Well, the last one is easily addressed. When you entered this Gamer gig, you spoke to someone, right? An Admin.

"Right…"

So this goes straight from the Admins. It's something that I have to show when a certain condition is met – a Stat of 1000 or more – and I can't say anything about it beforehand. Even if I were so inclined. Which I would be because I kinda like you. But I couldn't. Sorry about that.

I was taken aback by the last bit and my anger faded into resignation "Thanks, I appreciate it. I like you too. What's this about then? And why are the Admins butting in?"

Let's just say that some Gamers get out of hand. Especially when they get powerful. Like 1000 in a Stat, that's big for practically all normal NPCs. So the Admins thought up this [SURPRISE EVENT]. Can't say anything about it

"Fantastic, just fantastic" I sigh and immediately start to plot, "So something that is designed to humble the budding Gamer? That sounds… dangerous. And that sounds like I have to step up my efforts a little. A lot. But why was the event delayed? It says it's due to you."

Normally it would be when you finish the World Quest, so not to interrupt your current Universe. In the capacity as your System I made the judgment to delay the [SURPRISE EVENT] until the end of Dragon Age Origins

"Thanks. It would be pretty annoying to have to do something else now just as we are about to deal with Loghain and that overgrown blighted lizard god. I really appreciate the time to train too"

That's kind of a coincidence

"Still appreciate it"

By the way, the Stat Conversion is done. Check it out, it 's nothing too bad

Raising a semi-skeptical eyebrow I say "Status."

I frown a little but try to tap the rank thing in Strength and the numerical value I remembered there being springs up again. Cocking my head to the side I address my System again "And how is this any better?"

Because A-Rank is the highest you can go in a standard fashion. Welcome to mid-game

Speechless, I am speechless.

The high Ranks each work differently. The most important for you right now is S-Rank which you can 't raise to via Classes

"But… that's my like biggest gain" I stammer. I did not whine. Totally didn't.

Hence from A on up it won't work. Any point in the A-Rank Stat from Class level will get automatically converted into Credits.

"How many?"

100 Credits

"Boo"

Suck it up. You can raise the Stat via Stat Points, Stat Stones and any other ways other than Classes

"My Stat stealing works then?"

Indeed

"How many Points until an A becomes and S?"

Another thousand

I rub my brow "I know my morals are kind of flexible, but I'm not murdering that many people just to maybe up my INT."

You won't get any complaints from me. Besides, most Gamers do not in fact have a shortcut like that one

"Some do then?"

Gamers are a greedy sort

I snort "I bet. Hey, do you have like statistics?"

Of what?

"Of Gamers. How they do. Like when you play online you can see how other players are doing. Not that I want any crossovers or anything, but I am curious where I stand" I shrug.

If it flatters you ego I can tell you that only a little more than a quarter of gamers actually manage to get an A-Rank. The rest die before reaching this point – they get too cocky and piss off the wrong person, thinking they can get them because they are the mighty Gamer

I find myself honestly surprised "Really? I genuinely thought it would be more. Much more. The Gamers I read about are usually quite focused or they manage to exploit this scheme."

Sure, but the statistic stands.

"You said there is S rank and beyond," I muse, "How is the statistics there?"

Barely 10% reach S-Rank. Then it 's about 3% for SS and further go only the coveted 1%. And that's rounded up

"Of how many gamers?"

Not allowed to say. Don't even know, I get an update only when my gamer… retires

"Dies?"

Yup

I chuckle "Well, that's interesting to know. I feel pretty good about myself I have to say."

You 're doing pretty well. Must be me

"Definitely you, System" I grin, loving the banter as always.

Just FYI, for your 'online statistics', Gamers are called A-Rank or S-Ranks and so on only when they have that Stat across the board. So you're just starting

"This feels like you're challenging me here, System" my grin widens, I'm definitely feeling motivated.

Take it as you wish

*wink*

I start laughing – despite feeling a lot let down about this shift in my circumstances, I'm glad I didn't take it out on System. But I'm still a little angry, just in general. Gain from Classes was huge! At my numbers, even the lowest one, I can't just 'exercise and see what I get' anymore, I have to get my Points in externally. And every Class level usually let me raise two to three Stats. Heck Sky-Chosen, being a special Class and all, raised four! And some were doubles! And getting to 1000 was a hard slog, and now I am to do it again? And we're just talking about INT here, soon I'll have to do it for the other Stats too.

Wait…

"My other Stats I can raise like usual, right?" I ask, not a little fearfully.

The same. Until you reach 1000 with them

Ok, then the plan is doing just that I suppose. I was planning on concentrating on DEX anyway so I can do that. Other Stats too. Concentrate on Skills. After all, Stats aren't everything. Still I will do some stealing on the side but nothing crazy. I can afford to take my time.

Wait. Again. Really, where my head is at. I don't have time! There is that freaking surprise bullshit designed by Admins to knock me off my high. Then again, I'm not getting to S-Rank before we close Origins. Back to the previous plan.

Wait. Yes, again. I just have too many thoughts running through my head.

"My INT is now A or 1000? Because you calculate spell damage from that. And Mana. Did that change in any way?"

Huh, I honestly thought this wouldn't occur to you. I would've said it in a moment since this is a big change

I gulped.

Intelligence, for the purposes of all calculations, except Rank of course, is fixed to one thousand

"Fuck"

But hey, you get A+ at 1500!

"Awesome" I say dryly, though it might be a little muffled since I dropped my face into my palms, trying hard not to tear up. Not that a thousand isn't powerful but… You get it, I'm really disappointed and annoyed. Definitely wasn't expecting my fortunes to shift this much when I woke up this morning.

But alright, the A+ thing does make me feel a little better.

You also got a new Achievement and a new Perk, just in case you overlooked it

"Wha? Oh, right. I did forget about that. It was just too much information all at once and it wasn't good news either. But Perks do make me… perk up"

Rolling my eyes here

"You know you love my puns"

I really don 't

"Lies, pure fiction" I grin, "Anyway, can you bring those two things up, please?"

Specialized: You have achieved A-Rank in one of your Stats; Achievement Reward: Epic-Tier Gacha

Should I spin it or you wanna see the Perk first?

"Perk, please"

Overcharge Sacrifice one tenth of your overall MP to double the effects of one use of a Skill. Sacrifice additional two tenths to triple the effects.

I hum, reading the line a few times. This… doesn't sound bad at all. Better yet, it's not attack or even spell, it's use of a Skill which is basically everything. I'll have to try it out a few times in a dungeon. But I definitely need to learn how to make Mana potions, especially if I want to use it in combat. One tenth, or three tenths of my Mana pool is a lot. It might be fatal to cut my MP during a fight. Then again, it can win a fight. But you have to use it at the right time and on the right Skill. Hmm… Well, I like it, but I need to try it out. Heck maybe even with all my Skills to see if it's worth it. It will cut into my training time but I think I need to do this.

And I still have to finish Alchemist. Especially if I'll have to do some unknown event after Origins. I will probably need a fight Class for it and I have still that DEX planned out.

And I need to continue with making connections with the Fereldans. And the Warden Party – come to think on it, if I want Morrigan or Leliana, the time to put some more work in is now.

Before you start up again, do you want that gacha?

My eyes widen – I really should stop getting distracted, "Yes, please! Thanks."

Rolling…

Skill Book acquired

[Disperse]

"Will I be able to like scatter someone at the molecular level? This sounds so…"

Disperse (Active)[Level 10] – Masks you from any and all senses except for sight by dispersing your energy into the environment. Chance of failure based on DEX check - 5.000 MP/use (+ 5.000 MP every additional minute); progress to next level: 0%

"This is a stealth Skill?" my enthusiasm plummets.

Yep

"Oh" I pout, "I wanted…" I do what I think is a 'cool spell' gesture but now that I think on it, it's just Sith lightening. Oh well, that's cool too. I can actually do that now. Ish. I learned most of Dragon Age spells, and a lot of people like lightening here. Also, I do so love Winter Grasp – anyone want frozen statues of people?

Anyway, Disperse. Well, it's from an epic-tiered gacha so it should be an epic-tiered Skill. And I don't really have any real sneak abilities aside Stealth and the cloaking gadget I made with yay. I guess.

Hm, now that I think on it, I might sneak up on high-level guys with this one, right? Even Flemeth would spot me under Stealth and she's fairly tame as far as gods go. So okay, good Skill to have. Not the most exciting, but good. Though I maintain it's stupid that it cloaks you from every type of sensing but you can still be seen. I do have the visual covered, but still. Kind of stupid and I will have to use both my stealth Skills at the same time. Thank System I have loads of MP because otherwise I would be annoyed at the waste. That said, I really really hope that leveling the Skill raises the Dexterity check and not lowers Mana consumption. But that would be dumb, right? Not Epic in the least.

So, yet another thing added to my immediate to-do list: leveling this. Good that I can do other stuff while under it just fine, saves on time. I would also like to try the Skill out for real but nobody occurs to me at the moment who could give this thing a work-out. But it's Epic so I have a lot faith in it.

I am just mulling over a few scenarios when I hear the doors to my office opening. I lean forward so I can see who is barging in.

Turn out it's Shianni who actually jumps up in surprise when she notices me "Oh, sorry! I thought you were with the army!"

"I was, just needed some quiet" I smile, "You know, way too many people at the camp."

"I understand" the elf deposits a small stack of papers on my desk and turns back to me, "Back at the Alienage we were all living practically atop each other. No space, no privacy. Alright, I am exaggerating a little but everyone knew everything about everyone. We were all in each other's business. Ostagar is much better. We can actually breathe. And not be scared of the guards."

I nod "I heard quite a few of your friends joined what passes for the city watch around here parts."

Shianni sighs fondly "Yeah. That particular foursome was a pick pocketing 'gang' back in Denerim. Look at them now, all respectable. I can only thank you, it's only possible because people respect us here. We're equals."

"Both the Avvar and the Chasind never had any problems with elves, so not sure if I can take the credit" I shrug but I am feeling pretty good about myself. Queen of a Dominion full of equality – quite a jump from the serial murdering vampire from the previous Universe, huh?

The red-head rolls her eyes good-naturedly "Sure. I have spoken to you about this quite a bit already so I'm not going to bring it up again. Anyway, while you're here, I have some updates for you and you need to sign a few things."

"Sign?" both my eyebrows raise in genuine disbelief, "Since when? Reports, sure. Maps and letters, sure. But signing stuff, where this is coming from?"

"From me" Shianni's smile is sharp and wicked, "I have no idea really how I ended up being a sort of elder or mayor for this town of yours, but if I'm going to do it, I want it done right."

"With paperwork!?"

"Correct"

"But…" I struggle – heck, half of my reason for wanting to rule barbarians was the absence of paperwork.

"But nothing" the elf says curtly, "Ostagar has too many people and it's getting bigger by the minute. We need to keep tabs on things. Records. A proper administration."

Still bewildered I look through the papers she brought me, "You do realize that if you do this to me, you are stuck managing this, right?"

"Yeah" Shianni goes from fiery to despondent.

I sigh "Alright, if you think this will help. And once the war ends, I'll make your position more official. If you want it called something specific, let me know. And consult Haku and get yourself some staff."

"I already got it" the elf smirks. "And Haku was very helpful."

"He was?" my mouth drops. Ok, I might get lost in my projects and leveling a lot but I never thought I'd miss so much. Then again, it isn't something I would like to be bothered with, but he could've mentioned it in one of his progress reports or something.

"He was" Shianni confirms, "And I'll think on the name."

I nod, shaking off my surprise and going back to planning mode "Just so you know, Chief Administrator…"

"I don't think so"

"…I'm planning on Queen Anora and us, read you, working closer together in the future" I say a bit cheekily but still seriously, "Close friends that will grow even closer once Orlais and the Chantry finally make their move."

"You want to occupy the entirety of Ferelden, don't you" Shianni asks, not even surprised.

"Occupy is not a nice word" I chide her, "More like merge Ferelden into the Alamarri Dominion."

"Dissolve Ferelden into the Alamarri Dominion" Shianni corrects me with a smirk.

"That works" I smirk back at her.

We keep doing that for a moment, holding our gazes and smirking, very 'secret pact'. Then Shianni hums "Well, Anora is a capable administrator, I don't think anyone can dispute that. Still a stuck up royal politician but this little brush with insurrection might make her easier to deal with. Okay, I think I can work with her. I'll keep it in mind for the future."

"Do so, please. After all, you both will be in a governmental position"

"Ah, so I need to make that title of mine sound more important than I intended"

"Nobody said I can't promote you even further"

Shianni grins "Ho? Above the little queenie Anora?"

"Maybe" I wink.

"The Orlesians are gonna shit their collective perfumed underpants" the elf laughed, developing a definite glint in her eye.

"Oh yeah" I can't help but agree.

We both start doing the best version of 'evil laughter' we could do. I think we spooked a few people that heard us from the corridor…

The final battle against Loghain is fast approaching. To be honest, I thought it would be over by now but I am not really a general, I'm happy to leave that to Bryland. Still, surprised. Our troops are healed, thanks to yours truly, equipped and eager, so why wait. I do get that our little war council is spooked by Loghain and his legend, and I get that he is cornered so at his most dangerous. I even get that he is sure to have several aces in his sleeve and this apparent siege is not going to be one. For that last reason I have Haku keeping an eye on him, so our united army can crush him while making the Alamarri the stand out a little. Also, Margit and Karasuba have found a few spies and saboteurs so we already got some points.

While I am surprised about the time this is taking, I am not displeased. I have more time to train and, more importantly, network. Inverts time in people. In this area, the Warden party has finally made its camp tour.

Why not before? Well, Alistair took my threats to heart and wanted to stay as away from politics as he could, something Amell actually supported. Both content staying Wardens and both liking the time off so to speak to just be with each other. Not that they were idle – they went to Soldier's Peak, which was a DLC if I'm not mistaken, and put things to right there. That being an old Grey Warden fortress they also got themselves some nice gear with Warden sigils. Finally they were looking the part and people around here will surely take them more seriously. They also went to the most darkspawn-heavy spots and fought at the point there, slowly repairing the reputation that Loghain tarnished. So, they were busy. But now, since soon this all was going down, they joined us at our army camp.

Well, not joined us per se, they made their own camp. So we have three rather distinct 'districts' – Fereldan, Alamarri and Warden. Which works really well since Wardens are apolitical and international. Strictlyneutral. I approve.

Not that Arl Eamon, who arrived with his troops, wasn't trying to merge two of those districts together. A little hint, it wasn't my district he was thinking about. Alistair though was staunchly refusing to get involved.

But Alistair, or even Amell, weren't the people in the Warden party I was most glad to see. Finally I could get some more interactions in with Morrigan and Leliana. I spoke a few times to the wild witch though my summons, having a nice banter going, but with Leliana I only did dreams so far. Now I needed to speak her in person and show her that her place is with the Alamarri, the place that actually reflects her faith. Back in Origins, now, she was considered borderline heretic by the sisters of the Chantry so I am eager to sever that bond completely. It was the future Divine and Leliana's old-time savior that bought her fully into the Chantry fold, something that I will not allow to happen this time.

My target is Leliana this time, but I don't really have a reason to approach her. But. I have given every reason for her to approach me. So naturally I fly into their camp to meet with Morrigan, talk about potion-making. After that I'll hang out with the rest, do a little chat with Amell, some Alistair, try to ignore Wynne (because she's annoying), Sten (because he's really annoying) and Oghren (because he's a belligerent drunk. And he kind of smells). Zevran gets a good-natured eye-roll for his flirting, the mabari gets a pat and beef jerky and finally…

"Can I talk to you for a moment?" Leliana asks brightly. But my Mind Mage is up, I can feel turmoil within. That bodes very well for me indeed.

"Of course" I smile at the red-head. Over her shoulder I catch Morrigan's gaze. She rolls her eyes and returns to her book. The witch is not fan of the bard, I know that, but I think they won't have too many problems with each other once they are both on my team.

We reach a quieter spot, which actually only means away from Oghren. It's also away from the fire but the sky is bright enough despite being night. Also the fires all around the army camp make for a persistent if tame glow in the slight distance.

"Nice night" Leliana commented, echoing my thoughts.

I hum "Clear skies, how unusual for Ferelden."

"It does not rain all the time here, you know" the bard chuckled.

"Just most of it" I grin.

Leliana laughs a little and then looks into the dark in a contemplative silence. I let her, staying silent right alongside her.

"I believe in the Maker," Liana says resolutely, breaking the short silence, "I see his hand everywhere I turn, all the beauty that is in the world. The way the water flows, the way the mountains resist the flow of time, the way the plants always manage to grow even in the most inhospitable places. I hear him in the wind, in the waves, I feel him in the sunlight that warms my skin. I feel his caring for us."

The bard shakes her head a little before continuing on a slightly different note "The Maker sent me a vision, it was what made me join the Wardens. It also saved me from the Blight as I would've stayed in Lothering if not for the dreams. The Maker has a plan for me and now I dreamed again."

I merely raise an inquisitive eyebrow when Leliana turns to me sharply. That appears to satisfy the red-head and she continues on "Twice he saved my life and once my soul, now I do everything I can to pay that kindness forward. He asked me to use my talents to rid this world of evil. And what is more evil than the Blight, corruption personified. I also believe he is now leading me to you."

"Me?" I cock my head to the side, a smile successfully fighting off my restraint.

Leliana nods, returning her gaze to the dark of night "Yes. I am to help you now. Well, after the Archdemon is defeated."

"Help me how? Because if it is converting me to the Chantry, I very much doubt you will be successful. Or popular among my people" I bait her.

A wry smile is my answer "Quite the opposite. Rather than convert you to the Chantry, convert the Chantry to you."

My surprise is actually genuine, not expecting her to take it this far. Then again, she is a bit of a zealot so maybe I should've expected she'd go all in right from the start.

"The Chantry has lost its way," Leliana says boldly, "Dictating belief where it should be guiding. Grabbing power where it should be helping. It should encourage self-reflection but not denounce the results should they differ from doctrine. The Chantry is an institution rather thana beacon of faith. It surely does not follow what Andraste wanted it for it. Her ideals have been lost within greed."

I hum "Well, it was Drakon, the first Emperor of Orlais, that institutionalized the Chantry we know today. He used belief and faith to conquer half of the continent. His father was practically a nobody lord but Drakon crowned himself Emperor of a massive land. Thanks to faith. He trimmed what he didn't find useful from the loose doctrine of the time and promoted what he wanted. Heck he even wrote one of the Chants himself – about how he had visions and that the Orlais he built is the Maker's kingdom. The Chantry today is definitely not what Andraste wanted, it's what Drakon wanted."

Huh, now that I think about it, I am the modern day Drakon rather than the Andraste I nudge the people's thoughts to. Well, that is a bit of an unpleasant realization. I never liked him in the games though it was just lore from long ago. Oh well, I better start liking him now.

Leliana, blissfully unaware of my comparison, nods slowly, thoughtfully "True. It is widely known Andraste had a large elven following, and an elven companion and friend which she cherished. One that also contributed to the original Chant of Light. This chant was banned by emperor Drakon. Now the society follows his idea and shuns fellow beings only because they are different." The bard sighs "And this is just one example."

I can only nod. Really, one of the Inquisition DLCs clearly said the Inquisitor at the time, Ameridan, had been elven and he was a friend of Drakon. The future emperor even promised that his friend's people would be welcomed in his empire. It might've been Drakon's son to be to blame for the Fall of the Dales but daddy sure played a part, not to mention teach him his conquering attitude. Drakon senior was known to slaughter even peaceful tribes that didn't even defend themselves when he came, all in the name of his conquest. No wonder junior didn't give a shit about the elves that stood in the way of his political ambitions.

Hm, I might actually be better than the Drakons after all. I am definitely nicer than them in my quest for power. I want everybody to get along, under me.

Once again Leliana continues on, very much unaware of my thoughts. Thank all the gods that I am the one with Mind Mage. I would be screwed then. Hmm, might look into some protection actually - didn't Magneto have a helmet that blocked telepaths or something? No, bad, concentrate on the pretty red-head!

"Within Ostagar, and here in your camp, I see Avvar, Chasind, elves, Fereldans, all united and living as close to harmony as I ever saw. Mages with non-mages, all are accepted. This is what the Maker wanted for us. I feel like we have been led astray but now that it is clear to see it is possible for us to live together without hate…"

"I expect an Exalted March any day" I had to interrupt, Leliana is starting to look a little like a crusade aimed against you to cool someone off.

Leliana deflates a little, but only a little "Yes, I can see it. But I cannot let this beautiful ideal fall. Once the Blight is over I would like to visit Andraste's resting place again, and then help you put things right. Teach the Chantry what it has forgotten. Even Andraste fought a war to see her ideas realized, I will fight by your side. If you'd have me. I want to see the story unfold, see the new prophet rise and teach us to be better, to appreciate what we have and help our fellows raise them up."

You know, I find people fascinating now that I have Mind Mage. I can literally see into their thoughts and Leliana? She is a bit of a mess.I can see all that insecurity, her desperate want to be a much better person than she believes she is. Leliana became so bitter by the third game - after 10 years working within the Chantry she gave up on herself and embraced what she hated most about her character. I sincerely hope we can help her find a balance between her so-called 'light' and 'dark'. I really really do because this version is a little too intense.

Then again, she is at a bit of a turning point. Origins did explain it quite nicely in the Leliana romance, much better than I if anyone would ask me.

Basically, Leliana is a vicious killer. She knows she is, that she likes having power over people and that she is not what people would call good. She started hating that part of herself mostly because it has been cultivated by her first love – her mentor Marjorlaine. Then the woman broke her heart and framed Leliana for treason. Then a lot of stuff happened, Leliana really wanted to change and she ended up in the Chantry. It was boring as hell for her but she felt she needed it. Basically, a lot of her initial stay in the cloister was basically the equivalent of wearing emo black, eating ice cream and listening to break-up songs. A few years later and Leliana managed to swap her obsession with Marjorlaine with an obsession with the Maker. Then the Wardens bring back the excitement and reawaken the warrior in her. Now she struggles to find balance between the two parts of her life. Her solution to this is the little budding crusader I just hosted and told she is welcome by my side.

Yep, I have Leliana now. Still, she will need more work. Help her settle most of all. Yes, I'll do the good deed of helping her be at peace with herself. Then I will have my spy and soon a spymaster. Really, this actually went pretty well… Not amazingly well, but pretty well.

The only downside, I am not even flirting with her before she gets to that spymaster stage. Why? Because it might ruin the work I put in her aaaaand I would feel gross. Really gross, I don't want to become her next obsession or anything. So a bit of a different case than Anora – I didn't do anything there because she was way too dependent on me. But that was back then. Come to think of it, she is very free these times, back to ruling and all, perfectly able to say no. I am her ally, not her… kidnapper? blackmailer? Wow that sounds bad.

Anyway, it is pretty early in the evening, why not visit our dearest queen. Getting Leliana is worth celebrating and surely the queen would not scoff at the best Ferelden cider Margit, of all people, managed to find. It's not strong but really tasty. After all, getting the queen drunk would be ill-mannered.

Decision made, I Flash Step to the Fereldan part of camp. Anora insisted on coming along – Bryland wanted to leave her in one of the fortresses we controlled but the queen adamantly refused. I supported her on that, it made her popularity soar among the common Fereldans. And my people war tent was among the bigger ones but nothing extravagant, and it had a lot of guards stationed all around.

Sneaking in is a breeze, of course. Since no one here is really special, aside me and mine of course, [Stealth] by itself is more than enough. But in the spirit of leveling I use [Disperse] as well. I actually asked System if I can combine the Skills – apparently no, but System created a shortcut name to activate both at the same time. Hence, I am using [Sneak]. Short, sweet, rolls of the tongue.

"Nice night" I address the queen that is clearly ready to not deal with anyone anymore this evening.

Anora jumps and barely contains her shriek. Similarly, I withhold my chuckle – jump-scaring her never gets old. The blond glares at me once her heart rate calms down a bit "I loathe when you do that!"

"It feels like a tradition at this point" I shrug with a smile and take the seat opposite of her, pouring myself a cup of tea.

"Right, make yourself at home" Anora says acerbically.

"Come now, we are friends, aren't we?" I reply quietly, trying to convey the genuineness of it, "You are a free woman now, a monarch in your own right. Who better to be your new best friend than I?"

"Perhaps someone who doesn't seek to use me?" the Fereldan raises an eyebrow pointedly.

I snort "Is there someone like that?"

"…No" Anora admits after a while.

"To queenly burdens" I smile and raise my cup.

To my delight Anora actually chuckles "To queenly burdens."

We sip in silence, mostly because I don't want her to either choke on the tea or spray in on me, so I wait to say "Speaking of queenly burdens, I could offer some relief. Well, provided you haven't selected one of the noble boys that are being thrown at you."

"Ah, and your true aim reveals itself" Anora, to my surprise, chuckles again, no blush or scandalized expression on her face.

I smirk, feeling both amusement and attraction within her thoughts, "I would welcome the added benefit but I am serious about being friends."

The queen snorted "I actually believe you, how peculiar. As for your first notion, I am hardly an easy target."

"As many nobles, young and otherwise, have found out to their displeasure" I grin.

"Quite" Anora replies with a smile of her own.

"Anyway, they might want you for your crown, I want you because I simply find you attractive. Your resilience and fortitude most of all," I flatter, "Let me try to quietly woo you, my friend."

"You can, quietly, try" the reply is downright challenging but with a seductive undercurrent. Oh my, who is seducing whom I wonder.

Having permission, a green light if I ever saw one, I give my most charming grin and withdraw a bottle from my Inventory with a flourish, "Cider? Avvar-made, very tasty if a touch stronger than one might expect."

Anora hummed and her eyes twinkled "Why not."

I had no real hate towards Loghain, he is just an obstacle for me, but right now, I can't help but be angry since it was his actions that made me have to rise up at 2 am from a very comfortable bed. The bed also occupied by Anora who was now suddenly extremely self-conscious about being found naked with me by Haku. He was a perfect gentleman and all, and he more or less knew I wanted to bed the queen, but Anora was mortified. Being informed about the imminent attack of Loghain loyalists did not alleviate that in the least though Anora clearly welcomed the need to focus her thoughts elsewhere.

Since Haku spied the movement before it actually could be seen, we had some time to prepare and to mobilize. Myself I took the opportunity to go back to my camp and put on my best 'have totally not just slept with the queen of Ferelden' face. I am the respectful sort after all.

Bryland, and the other soldier-types, have made a plan in case we are the ones attacked, so nobody was really panicking. There was hurried nervousness and determined haste to get to one's post among the men but it was more or less organized chaos. Still, very good that we had Haku and a lot of lookouts because Loghain started off with cavalry, testing our flanks. He didn't find them undefended or not ready but he still did some damage. But that was not even an appetizer. Perhaps an amuse-boushe, as they would term it in Orlais.

The main course was a surprise. It was less medieval tactics and more modern, at least that was my feeling, as Loghain managed to whip out a bombardment.

Expecting a charge, either of cavalry or infantry, our side had most forces on the front. Sure, we had reserves ready to spring in and push a line somewhere, and we had taken care of reinforcing our sides, but the bulk of our forces was in the front. Which makes sense - that is how things are done around here. So what Loghain had done was very carefully, kudos to him, bait out a lot of this main bulk forward – he let them taste blood and he feigned a messy retreat. Like with the sides, that he was only testing us and now retreating to safer territory. Our allies, eager to win, followed him. I can't even say it was far, it was a reasonable distance, one that left time for them to retreat should Loghain deploy cavalry and it was too far for archers to reach though… well, for those it was close enough. And with the targets being nicely clumped together.

Why Bryland was sure that any siege weapons would be left behind in Denerim or a fortress, not brought into the field, was a mystery. Andalso a mistake. One I had neglected in pointing out since I needed Loghain to live up to his legend and not be easily defeated. Besides, he did a very good job of keeping his artillery hidden despite actually constructing a lot of them on the spot.

The first salvo had a much similar effect to what I did at the Wood Fort. Same tactics too, it is actually a little validating. I let that one pass but I almost winced at the second one that hit –the first wave were simple enough projectiles but the second were not. It was actually more than one type of projectile but all of them were excessively deadly. Normally I am all for excessively deadly but this is being deployed against me and mine.

My Alchemist Class was most interested about the round projectiles that were clearly hollow and held some substance in them that was corrosive. It didn't do much when the droplets landed on armor but on skin, both human and horse, resulted in enormous pain. Soldiers folded and horses went haywire, seeking to trample anything on their way to not-pain.

Fortunately though, the corrosive was launched by only two of the machines, clearly not something Loghain had much of. It must've been cooked up by a single mage with some support staff. The second type was much more mundane but also very effective – oil. The type that catches fire which is handy when you launch it at an army that is marching at night. Our own torches ignited the oil that was deliberately splashed over big chunks of the front line. Actually, the mage, or one of his cohorts, might have tampered with the oil as well because it looked sticky. It made for a good weapon indeed.

Loghain had a third type of projectile sent, one that was both very simple and very effective. Puzzling too. It looked just like a bundle of long sticks that somehow, probably due to the force of being launched, fractured in flight and landed as a deadly rain of sizable splinters. Again, it did not do much against armor but they got everywhere. Like any good splinter.

I did not let a third salvo land, Loghain already did a lot more damage that I thought he would. The second wave has been deadly and even though he must not have too much ammunition left, I simply could not let him land another devastating strike.

Especially since Loghain was clearly not content with trebuchets and was pushing smaller catapults and a few ballistae closer to our line. They were crude and he clearly meant to abandon them after a few shots but it would take time to organize something after the artillery got us. Flanks could muster a response but Loghain was clearly prepared to hold them off for a time, time he would spend bombarding us.

No, enough was enough.

My flight caused a hopeful cheer, one that turned booming when I shielded the entire front line with my [Wisp Wall]. It is much more flexible than the name suggests and let me form a half dome, covering both the front and all the way up to me, much higher than even a counterweighted trebuchet could reach.

The third wave of projectiles impacted my pale barrier and smashed on it, all debris and liquids harmlessly sliding down off it. The troops whooped, no other name for it, and tried to get their ranks together as well as allowing the injured to be dragged inwards towards the support lines.

A fourth salvo failed against my barrier and then a fifth, this one without the liquids. I had to wonder why it has not stopped – did Loghain, or whoever was directly commanding the artillery, think I could not hold out? That I could only withstand a limited number of impacts?

A sixth salvo was launched but in addition to that, a very, surprisingly very, accurate shot targeted me. A long ballista bolt and I was the clear target for it. I actually don't think it would've made it as far as me since I was hanging back, having cast the Wisp Wall ahead of me by quite a distance.

I could see the row of ballistae and their entourage come closer to me, covered by the still firing artillery. I see – they sought to keep me busy and hopefully snipe me out of the air. Not a bad plan. With my frankly absurd MP there is no way I could fail holding up the barrier, but they were working under the assumption I was a local, if skilled, mage. Also, they probably thought I could only keep up the barrier and not help the troops otherwise on the account of being too busy. Not bad, not bad…

Still, not that I actually have to do anything more. I already planned to leave the battle to the troops, like the ones before, and only helping with the healing and with buffing the troops while once in a while throw a debuff towards the enemy. I can do all that and keep the soldiers shielded, even when they go on the offensive.

I flew forward, my shield up and even expanding, telling Margit she should communicate to Bryland and company that they should respond to the attack. Maybe even smash those annoying ballistae and catapults since they were pretty much easy prey now. The trebuchets too but those were hidden behind a lot of Loghain's men.

The Regent in question had a plan for that, but this one fell flat before it even began. A large strip of land before the smaller artillery line was soaked with something, probably the same solution as the flaming projectile, and this time it was meant to crisp up any offensive directed at the ballistae. I didn't even have to do anything as most of my Avvar mages, along with a few of their foreign friends, were really handy with frost magic. At the first sign of ignition my mages froze the land over, allowing my light cavalry to start the killing unimpeded. Well, unimpeded other that by normal enemies.

Naturally, Loghain had men to support that line, mostly archers hidden behind heavy cavalry, but that was clear to Bryland who responded with our own troops, quickly devolving the fighting into a chaotic mess.

Not that there weren't any more stand-out offensives – like the men Loghain kept hidden far in reserve seeking to flank us. That one had been pretty much expected and planned around ahead of time, our own reserves intercepting them and easily dispatching them, mostly due to the presence of my mages and my mounted archers.

I still flew over everybody, doing my thing and also being on the lookout for any more tricks so that I can preserve my population and enhance my reputation. It will be clear that I was the understated MVP of the battle.

Still, the battlefield was chaos, it could not really be compared to the battles and skirmishes we had before. This was on a much bigger scale, both sides throwing everything at each other. Boy, the Archemon and Orlais alike would have a laugh.

Speaking of chaos… "Haku?"

"Yes, Fia-sama?

"Do you have eyes on anyone from my little list perchance?"

"Not at the moment. But a short time ago I have noted Arl Eamon with the reserves and quite far away from any action whatsoever. Himbeing killed there would be a little suspicious"

I sigh "I see. Well, him hiding away, no matter how wise it is for a man in his position and age, won't do him any favors with our allies. I'll take that at least. Where is he, I can keep an eye on him myself is he is stationary enough."

"Planning for a discreet heart attack?" the ninja chuckles softly after which he proceeds to point my gaze in the Arl's direction.

"No. Well, maybe. We'll see. I might let him die during the final battle instead, he is still useful enough I guess"

"Wynne and Sten are with the rest of the Warden party, doing quite the damage for being so few. If I may recommend, Fia-sama, I would leave them be at present. Sten is a strong warrior and Wynne is their dedicated healer, losing either would be a blow to them. Also, it might impact morale which is not ideal since the Archdemon is yet to reveal himself"

I pout "Fine, you killjoy. You are probably right. No 'accidents' then. But if they die on their own then sucks to be them."

"As you with Karasuba nearby it is doubtful anyone from the Warden party will get more than a simple injury."

"I said she should prioritize the safety of the two Wardens and my two girls, but I guess it is easier just to protect them en bloc" I sigh once more, "Anyway, I assume you are somewhere near Loghain?"

"Yes, Fia-sama. Your orders stand?"

"They do. An injury bad enough to make him retreat would be better than an outright kill though"

"But not to let him retreat back to Denerim, I understand"

I nod in satisfaction – no sacking of the city, no disorganized looting, raping and house-burning. Something a lot more orderly and with less loss of life. Of course, I am guessing, hoping actually, that the Archdemon strikes then. I am eager to get it over with actually. I have a lot of things I want to do and the overgrown blighted lizard is in my way.

With a hum I observe the battlefield below me – this battle is getting tedious as well to be honest… Perhaps we could take it firmer in hand.

"Haku, I'll see about sending my mounted archers towards your position, I think we have let this play for long enough. Time for some stray arrow to make it to our dear Regent"

"Understood"

Mentally hanging up on Haku, I 'dial' another of my Servants "Margit?"

"Yes, my Lady!"

"Could you get Rila or one of the Fereldan commanders send a force to this location? I want them to pave way for my mounted archers so we can eliminate Loghain"

"Already?" comes the almost disappointed reply, "As you wish, my Lady. A small and targeted offensive is doable. Can me and Wolfie join in?"

"Sure, get them there but let the mounted archers do the job. I don't want anyone of real note getting Loghain, a no-name archer of unspecified nationality will be better. I don't want to hear anyone boast that they were the ones to kill the Regent. Neither a Fereldan nor one of ours. Just a stray arrow. Haku will handle that"

"Yes, my Lady, it will be done"

"Thank you, Margit, I can always count on you"

I grin, with this done, it won't take long for the battle to end. Perhaps I could see about that Eamon after all…

X

It started slowly. First a cavalry group broke off and galloped back to Loghain's camp, or probably further and to the city. It was only after they fled that the rest of the army slowly realized the situation and started an organized retreat. Some war horn communication was in effect but even with Loghain's very organized chain of command and disciplined troops, the army soon was in full route. Especially since the news of Loghain's injury got spread to both sides of the conflict thanks to both Haku in his ninja transformation technique and my Mind Mage.

There was still a lot of fighting going on but my Alamarri were already hollering in victory, praising both me and the Lady of the Skies, plus Hakkon of course, the main deity dedicated to war.

My grin was wide and genuine – we won, and it was pretty fairly. My soldiers performed admirably, my Servants too, my exp soared and nobody important from my side died. A complete and utter victory.

Which of course was the perfect moment for Murphy to rear his ugly head.

[Quest Alert!]

Death to the Archdemon!

Objective: Help protect Denerim and its populace

Objective: Help defeat of the Archdemon

Award: 500 000 exp, 500 credits, Title, ?

The Archdemon attacked Denerim. Now of all times. Of course.

"Thank you, System, for warning me" I think gratefully.

Me? You know I can't. No interference on my part

I smirk "Thank you for the timely issue of the quest then."

Of course, that is my job

*wink*

"Love you"

My most excellent System aside, the situation makes me lose my smile quickly. We need to organize ourselves and head to the city prepared, otherwise our army might chase Loghain's to the city and the Archdemon can pretty much go ahead and deal us a massive blow before anyone is even aware that he has come. As such, it is absolutely imperative to make him known to all.

As such, I sought to amplify my voice. I would've loved to do so by magic, to fit the theme of the Universe, but alas, I have no such magic. But I do have a fiddled-with megaphone…

"DENERIM IS UNDER ATTACK, THE ARCHDEMON SHOWED HIS HAND! CEASE HOSTILITIES AT ONCE AND REGROUP WITH YOUR COMMANDERS!"

As the crowds under me stagger with sudden uncertainty, I contact my trusted agent. "Haku, you go ahead to the city and report what you see!" I order the ninja and seek to find Bryland and the others from our little war table. We need to get our shit together, fast, so the Blight is contained.

"At once, Fia-sama!" Haku understands my urgency. Denerim might be a couple of days away but every second counts, especially with an army this size.

The chaos under me changes tack, both parties unsure but hesitantly separating. Some reluctantly, my Avvar and Chasind especially, but it still results in a clear separation of lines once more that Loghain's men wisely took to retreat. And here I am being generous by not saying flee. Then again, I expect most will regroup and march to Denerim, seeking to protect the city, so 'flee' would be ungracious.

Still, despite the abrupt ending due to the darkspawn, the civil war is pretty much done - Loghain will die shortly, if not there already – fantastic job, Haku - and all Fereldans should reunite in Denerim to fight as one against the tide of darkness. And after the battle Anora will declare some kind of pardon and Ferelden will be once big happy family again. With a brand new sister – us, the Alamarri Dominion.

Now only to make it go this way.

Byland, Amell and Rila – the three names I need to organize with for our unexpectedly arrived final quest of the campaign. Hm, the Wardens will be tricky since I have no idea what they are planning to do. After all, they need to send word for reinforcements from those treaties while the rest of us, and probably them too, try to hold the city against the darkspawn. It is hard to say when each party will arrive, after all in the game they were simply there and nobody cared about any logistic. Here though Eamon's people are easy enough since they are here with us, equipped and ready, same with the Alamarri Dominion. The elves are hopefully waiting on the edge of the Brecillian Forest so they shouldn't take overly long, but the Circle mages though won't be quick – the paranoid templars (rightfully so for a change) and the distance from Kinloch Hold making it so. And then there are the dwarves. I have no idea about them. Hopefully Ammell does. Well, at least they could help with the aftermath and chase the darkspawn back deeper into the ground after we deal with those on the surface. And mainly the Archdemon whose presence is calling to them. And giving them orders, making the true Blight a challenge, nothing like the smaller skirmishes here and there.

Well, at least our people are in their battle mindset already, no need to scramble. With us being close enough to the capital, we can reach it soon. Of course, Denerim had been emptied of a lot of its fighting force when Loghain decided to meet us on an open field, so I fear a lot of the civilians will not make it no matter how much we rush. Hopefully most of them won't panic too much and barricade themselves in their homes, that should help against all but the biggest of darkspawn.

"Fia-sama?"

"Yes, Haku. How is the situation?"

"Bad. Several buildings collapsed and revealed tunnels from which the darkspawn are pouring out. All kinds, ogres too. The Archdemon is present and circling above but still in the city. What is left of the templars and the city guard are trying to usher the civilians into stone manors, the castle and even the prison"

"I see. Keep an eye on things, I will confer with the leaders here and we will come as soon as we can. Loghain's fleeing army should be there a little quicker though, that should help. I'll see about helping the Wardens there a little faster"

"Understood, Fia-sama"

After that, I quickly touch base with Karasuba who is hanging around the Wardens and is spoiling for a fight – I tell her to direct the heroes of the game to my people and let her brief them on my intentions. Then it is time to find Bryland.

I find our commander-in-chief (sort of) in a small huddle with a handful of our more notable allies so I fly there at once. My noisy landing quickly gains their attention.

"Is it true?" Alfstanna asks as abruptly as ever.

"Yes" I nod simply, "The darkspawn are pouring into the city having tunneled under it. The Archdemon is there too, in full glory."

"Fuck!"

"No time to waste then" Bryland takes charge, "We need to regroup and make our way there with utmost haste. Of course the blighter would attack when it is least convenient."

"We need to leave the injured here and a force to defend them as well" one of the other nobles, can't be bothered to Observe who, speaks up.

"Yes, we should…"

I interrupt rudely "I apologize, but I see you have this in hand. I will join the Wardens – I assume they will not want to wait so I'll take them with me and a platoon of my best people. Form a vanguard. The Wardens should be able to rally even Loghain's men in this situation, not to mention what remains of the city's defenders. They should also have people to back us up with those treaties of theirs. Rila leads my forces, confer with her as necessary."

Brylan nods "Very well. Take our fresh reserves too. It is mostly Vigard and Eamon's men."

"Eamon is dead" I volunteer.

"What?"

With my face as innocent as I can make it, I shrug "Their group was reinforcing BannKrole on the right flank. He got hit by a poisoned arrow."

"No matter" Bryland dismisses the fact after a short silence, clearly not overly bothered, orders one of his aides, "Find an officer of his and tell him to come this situation I imagine nobody will protest."

"Let them find me with the Wardens," I add, "The Alamarri have promised to aid with the Blight, I'll let them take command. They will need us to clear the way to the Archdemon anyway so they can do whatever the Wardens do to end this."

Alfstanna frowns and looks to the east, towards Denerim, "Yes. Hopefully we won't be far behind. We need to make sure no darkspawn makes it out of the city before moving in."

I nod with definite approval – we will need to encircle the city for sure, "Indeed. I'll leave you now. Good luck."

"And you as well" Bryland says gravely.

I accept his warrior's handshake with a pleased nod and immediately go find Rila, confirm she is in charge and that I am taking a few of my people with me as well as tell her that she should coordinate with the Fereldans as she sees fit. She would probably do all that anyway but better be sure. Also I show face around my Alamarri who are once again abuzz about my 'vision' of doom in Denerim. Good stuff.

With all my obligations to the mass of the army done, I fly towards Karasuba who is lazily watching the Warden party discuss their plan of action.

"Fia" Morrigan is the first to greet me.

"We have instructed out liaisons to contact the Dalish, the Circle and the dwarves" Amell bulldozes over any niceties that could've been had, "You have pledged support as well, will you come to Denerim?"

"Aye" I agree freely, "While the majority of my army will be staying with the bulk of Anora's forces, myself and my best men will come with you at once. Well, provided you wish to depart at once."

Amell looks over her shoulder at Alistair who nods resolutely. She turns back to me "We do. Denerim is three days' away. Less if we can get horses."

"You will have them. Our vanguard will be fully mounted" I inform.

Both Wardens sigh in relief though the dwarf, Oghren, seems none too pleased. Well, suck it up, buttercup. Walking would take too long.

"Good, now we have to inform Arl Eamon. He should be able to send some people with us too" Alistair reasons.

"He's dead," I once again relay the 'sad' news, "But Arl Bryland has arranged to get us people. According to him, it will be Eamon's men anyway, as well as some others that were kept in reserve."

"Eamon's dead?" the former templar, and ward of the dearly departed, whispers with a stricken look on his face.

Amell takes his hand gently but her attention is on me "Good. We'll wait on everybody to assemble and depart towards Denerim. I imagine that when everything is settled here, Bryland will come to Denerim as well?"

"That seemed to be the plan" I nod.

The rest of the conversation goes very similarly to Bryland, and Rila for that matter. Logistics mainly and planning who and when goes where, possible timelines for reinforcements and so on. I was frankly already bored with doing this in triplicate but fortunately the Wardens were a little easier given the fact they were only a small group that only nominally order others around. Then again, exactly because of that, and the relative inexperience of the duo… Hey, actually kudos to them – neither Alistair nor Amell have been formally taught all this and are doing pretty fine!

Anyway, it took some time and a lot of talking, a lot, but the Warden vanguard was ready to depart. I already informed the relative commanders I would be using a sprinkle of magic on the horses and horse equivalent so that we could go a little faster and without the beasts getting as tired as they would normally. Aside from the Alamarri the people were skeptical but accepting enough – the news of their Capital being on fire did wonders for that acceptance.

The magic use got me another interested look from Morrigan. Yay, another point for me. Come stay with me as we plan to kill your mother.

Ehm.

Still, I tried to engage the caustic woman in conversation but it was clear her thoughts were elsewhere. I kinda suspected it could be the ritual that would allow the Warden to survive – or in practical terms, the ritual in which would mean her having to have sex with Alistair to have an old god baby. Them doing the ritual would be my preference but I don't really feel strongly enough to force it. It would feel way too scrummy. Let Amell, Alistair and Morrigan decide on their own.

Anyway, a taciturn Morrigan leads me to speak with Leliana so no loss for me. Zevran joins in so that was good too. On the other hand, Wynne once again begins proving just why her time on this plane is very limited. Limited by my patience, actually. I have healers in my vanguard so the old biddy isn't really needed. I am truly looking forward to her shutting up permanently. And while I am on that topic, Sten has his days numbered too. Haku has masterfully dealt with Loghain so I will task him with these two as well.

Speaking of Loghain…

Quest COMPLETE!

The Ferelden's Civil War ends!

Award: 500 000 exp, 500 credits, gacha

Perk [Surprise Boost] activated!

+1 LCK

I took it to mean he was dead. Looks like dear old Loghain held on for quite a while. This might help matters if he ordered his men to protect Denerim and follow his daughter. That could jive with the quest ending. Though it still does seem a bit premature. Not that I am complaining, I am very much not. And I like LCK, it is my preferred reward even. It is the hardest Stat to raise and Luck is needed always, especially if the Admins have some kind of test in store for me. Luck can offset a lot – insufficient Stats, low-quality equipment, poor judgement, you name it.

But anyway, gacha!

' Get me something nice, System '

Skill Book [Permanent Stasis]

More than intrigued, I use the book immediately. With a grin I observe me passing the skill check, which is for Intelligence. Easy peasy.

Permanent Stasis (Active) [Level 10] On Skill Check Pass*, puts one target into a state in which the body remains unchanged as if stopped in time*. Forces classification change from ' living ' to ' dead '* . Only one target can be affected at a time - MP/use depend on target level*; progress to next level: 0%

I quickly go through the parts that expand to get all the knowledge on the Skill. Because I think I found something really really really excellent. Just to confirm…

'Does this mean I can now put people into my Inventory? Since I cannot store living matter…"

Looks like you can. Huh, nice catch.

Just one though. At least for now.

And it evolves even! I love this already! This could change things a lot – I could steal myself people from other universes, like Saeko from Highschool of the Dead, and not pay the Credits for it!

It checks out

'AWESOME!'

Of course you get excited because you save money…

I chuckle 'That's just one aspect. Admittedly, my favorite. BUT. I can also use this against Mythal and Fen'Harel, keep them still while I slowly suck out their divinity! It should work, at least according to the asterisk explanations, and this means one of the biggest obstacles to finishing the second main quest here, not to mention get my divinity, is overcome!'

Looks like you Lucked out into a good Skill

'Definitely. You spun my gacha so deftly!'

Flattery will get you nowhere

Smirking, because it definitely does, I let the matter be. Now, I have a little time before bed – we have made camp and were looking for at least a few hours of rest - so let's use my Skill on someone. I have to see how it levels… Is it the number of people frozen, or is it the duration? And does it work when the target is in Inventory? All important questions and I need my answers…

It took two full days to arrive to Denerim. And I mean full. We did get some smattering of rest and sleep but haste has been paramount. And getting a bigger rest before the attack proper was something I had to insist on lest the Warden party, Alistair most of all, ran into the chaos without preparation. The grumbling I received petered out into nothing when a miracle happened and a relatively small contingent of Dalish hunters joined us as we were getting ready to storm the city. The mages and the dwarves we had no word on but presumably they were coming. To sort-of compensate, Haku has found the pockets of Logain loyalists that we could relieve in the city and use them to bolster our forces.

The plan was quite simple – try to make for the Archdemon, which has taken roost atop Fort Drakon. He would probably take flight as our forces came into the city but my job was to ground him. The roof of the prison actually being the ideal place – lots of space and relative obscurity for any Warden stuff. Such as bleeding the Archdemon dry for the material for their secret Joining Ritual. I had plenty of glass containers in Inventory just for this. Cost me a pretty penny too so they better be in awe. Also, I would be taking some blood for myself, I am quite interested in studying it when I have the time. Haku would be taking care of that.

That said, I had tasked the poor boy to the gills. He was my main scout, I want him to rid the world of two unpleasant people, steal a jug of tainted blood, keep an eye on any prominent thus problematic darkspawn, the reinforcements, you name it. Well, I did tell him what the priorities are and to do the rest when able but I fear he is too much of a perfectionist. Hopefully he won't let his guard down… I would task somebody to help him but Karasuba is… Karasuba, so not suited. Margit I left with the main army to keep an eye on things in case any Fereldans had any bright ideas on betraying me. And myself, I will have my hands full in the fighting – once again I would buff, heal, provide cleansing, and most importantly, keeping the Archdemon in place so that one of the Wardens might deal the killing blow.

I had to grin at that last thought – my curiosity got the best of me and I peeked into Alistair's mind. Lo and behold, it looks like no Warden would be dying today. At least to the slaying of the Archdemon. The bastard prince had been quite reluctant but determined to do anything to save his lover from a possible death. Similarly, Amell wasn't a fan of rituals in general but again, in the name of saving Alistair, she cheerfully shoved him into the witch's arms. And winked and asked he share details after. Amusing. Here I thought both were a little prudish.

But dealing with the results of that sex ritual later, now it was time to fight. Again. This time though, everything was a lot more straightforward. Not easy, but straightforward. Sure, with the intelligence and direction given by the presence of the Archdemon, the darkspawn added quality to their quantity but it was not Loghain level. Good news that since I'm not actually sure if we could win in that case. But since it wasn't, quantity was still the worst part of it. Even despite all our buffs, experience and men, it was a hard long slog to get to the prison. I was tempted to take the Warden party flying but they were adamant in killing the more dangerous darkspawn. The officers so to speak. I did not overly mind since it gave us space to save the few survivors that managed to hold on barricaded somewhere. I also set up healing and cleansing wards to purify the survivors and soldiers alive, and getting a head start into the purification of the city. That made me wonder how it was done in the game – the Taint was everywhere and it was dangerous to be near it lest you accidentally get infected. Did they burn the city and rebuild it? No, probably not. Maybe they just relied on it being a game and the clean-up happening off-screen. Not that it matters much when I, the Sky-Chosen, will do the miracle work and do the whole heal the sick routine. Legend-worthy stuff. And it will make the Fereldan nobles even more in my debt. There was no decrying me at this point. Alas, that relied on everyone to have a brain which is often not the case. But I already massaged the minds of the notable fools so I think I'm covered.

Speaking of covered, we finally, finally, fought our way up the hill and into the prison. And then atop the prison. The end was in sight. Which was good since I was already over this blasted battle. Nothing of note happened through it, only dips in my Mana reserve. Aside my killing darkspawn, turns out destroying a pair of wings doesn't make the Archdemon any more docile and he was spunky enough to consistently fight my keeping him in place. Hence my having to feed his restraints at a pace that made me promise myself a little more WIS for a more comfortable Mana Regen.

And here he was, our foe.

My Observe gave some interesting info on what an Archdemon actually is – it is all canon but it is nice to have it confirmed. Indeed he was the dormant old god Urthemiel that had caught the Blight. My Skill went a little more in depth but while it was very interesting it wasn't really anything actionable. Especially now as the Warden party went to the forefront and engaged the beast.

I sigh to myself – the Archdemon is some kind of super dragon with lots of HP and very good defense. As such, it will take a lot of time to whittle all that health away. I would intervene but I held back a little for two main reasons. One, this needs to be an epic fight – the Wardens need it so, Ferelden needs it so and frankly, I need it so. The more danger, the more acclaim. Second reason, I still want to do away with Sten and Wynne. The Qunari is actually already injured though hiding it for some reason – either pride or disgust with magic. Anyway, he only needs to trip at just the right moment and…

'One down, one to go' I hide my grin as the huge grey body is swatted off the roof entirely by the Archdemon's mighty tail. Too bad, so sad.

The others that formed the heroic party from Origins I protect with all my might. If anyone else, beside Wynne of course (I don't count her in, she's dead to me), died, I would take it as a personal failing. Some injuries will be necessary for the legend but no dying!

Hah, no capes!

Huh, what a weird memory to remember.

With the HP still far from done I start helping a little more. Karasuba I unleashed on the blighters below, even if I got a glare at hogging the dragon, because she could not see Health of enemies as I could. As such, I carefully measured my magic. I cannot be the one to kill him, in that case he would revive. Probably, I don't know how it works with Morrigan's ritual now that I think about it. Anyway, better safe than sorry.

Still, I wanted to speed things up a bit. Especially now that my secondary objective of Wynne's demise got accomplished. Again, I am overcome with sadness.

The Wardens actually are, no sarcasm there, but they persevere. As such, they deserve a break. With the fight already satisfying criteria for a legend, I take it to myself to help in the boss fight a lot more.

And thenfinally Alistair buries his sword into one of the dragon's eyes just as Amell drives an ice spike into the other in a very nicely coordinated maneuver. I am not even sure whose blow finally killed him. Not that it matters much, I can practically sense something happening centered on Morrigan. By all accounts, her plan worked. I would run up to her to congratulate her but as it is a secret, one that I very much should not be privy to…

Ah, well. GG everybody.

It will take a few months before Denerim could even get to recognizable but things are well underway. All darkspawn bodies were burned, all people cleansed and healed, and construction crews were already gleefully counting the gold they would receive before the city returned to normal. With everything in hand, it was high time for ceremonies and politics.

I was of course part of both but my validation came mostly via Quest completion. Nice exp, nice Credits and a brand new Title. I don't actually have all that many of those so I welcomed it. Besides, being a [Hero of the Blight] sounded cool. Especially since it was supposed to only be [Veteran of the Blight] but it got automatically upgraded because I didn't only fight myself but brought a force to bear. I'm not sure how the Title got improved but it's not really important, what is important is that it will allow me for faster gain of all physical Stats, yay, and make me someone recognizably special. I would say my frankly huge CHA would do that anyway but I'll take it. Alongside that I also got the opening of a new Class, [Warden]. Fun, but probably something of the Warrior bent and some bonus against undead I would wager, so not a contender for my future pick. The quest reward also included a Jump which is always nice to have in store and to widen my options, and my Perk [Surprise Boost] got me a point in DEX, the Stat I am focusing on now.. So all in all, big success.

Not to say I am not worried what the surprise that System managed to delay is, but I kind of feel ready. I stole myself a few more Stats, made a crapload of potions and I am confident enough in my gear. On the story side, Leliana promised to come to Ostagar after she ties up a few lose ends and visits Haven once more. Great. Morrigan didn't immediately vanish as in the game and actually stuck around for us to talk about the future. While she did leave, I am confident that she will be back in a few months – hopefully to deliver her baby in the clean and civilized city full of healers, aka Ostagar. She heavily hinted in that direction but I still tagged her with my tracking Skill so I can find her wherever. Zevran also decided to keep in touch though he was planning to return to Antiva. Alistair and Amell agreed to stay away from politics and they intended to find the Orlesian Wardens to share the Archdemon blood and maybe get some more information about their occupation. Then they would rebuild the Fereldan branch. They too said they would keep in touch. And then there was Oghren which I didn't care about one whit. What he will be up to I couldn't care less.

All that was left was strengthen our ties with Ferelden, rebuild, and prepare for whatever the Chantry and the Orlesian Empire have in store for our side of the continent. And Dragon Age 2, which is so far largely unaffected.

Long story short – I was done with Origins.

Which meant…

Ready?

' Bring it on '

[SURPRISE EVENT] has been initiated.

You are being summoned

I cock my head to the side in clear question but whatever I might've wanted to ask is lost in a most peculiar sensation. And the almost familiar vison of white light upon a Jump. The last thing I see is the suspiciously familiar alchemist-y pentagram-y sigil in red light that unfurls beneath me.

And a faint chant of "Let silver and steel be the essence. Let stone and the archduke of contracts be the foundation…"

Fuck NO!
