Walking out of the tent Kenji paused as he looked out at the morbid scene in front of him. Underneath a large canopy protecting them from the sun countless people were packed together, most sat on the ground covered in dust and staring aimlessly at nothing or crying silently as they processed the fact that they had just lost everything.
Kenji swallowed at the sight as he struggled with his own internal guilt, but after a second he forced himself to get moving. At first Kenji didn't know where he was going but it didn't take long before his ears picked up a haunting cacophony of sounds and he rushed over towards the origin of the noise.
Eventually Kenji came across another canopy however this one was protected from the elements with opaque plastic curtains. But Kenji didn't slow down as he pushed aside the flaps and made his way inside.
Almost instantly the previously muffled noises washed over Kenji turning into a chorus of painful moans and sobbing whimpers. The smell was just as concerning, heavy and medicinal but it overall failed to conceal the metallic scent of blood.
People were strewn haphazardly around the room about the room on mats, all sported hastily but well applied bandages, but Kenji noticed most were thoroughly bled through and even with his lacking medical knowledge Keni knew that they needed to be changed.
Kenji felt his heart pound as his mouth went sour and his lips puckered. Kenji almost thought he would succumb to the wave of nausea when the tent flaps opened behind him and someone bumped into his back.
On instinct Kenji activated his quirk, as abyssal chains rose from the ground catching the bundles of bandages and bottles of antiseptic that had spilled, "O-Ow…Kenji…what are you doing here?!"
Turning around at the familiar voice Kenji looked down at Tsu who had been carrying an arm full of medical supplies, "I got put on mandatory rest, so I came to see if there was anything I could do to help."
Tsu opened her mouth to respond when a blood curdling scream pierced the air and Tsu cast a concerned gaze over Kenji's shoulder, "Seems like you got here at the perfect time, follow me."
Tsu broke out in a brisk walk full of purpose and Kenji was quick to follow her to the back of the tent where privacy curtains sectioned off another area that Tsu and Kenji entered. On the other side Kenji realized that they had entered the equivalent of the ICU as people were laid out on actual beds.
Taking a step forward Tsu called out into the room, "I have more bandages, does anyone need any?"
"Tsu, is that you?! If so, I need your help now!" A familiar voice called out and Tsu and Kenji followed it back to find Momo bent over a patient. As she stood back up Kenji felt his throat tighten as he saw the blood covering the front of Momo's uniform, but only when Kenji got a look at Momo's patient did he realize the blood wasn't hers.
The man lying in the bed was missing his arm below, and Kenji couldn't help but stare at the fragmented bone shard sticking out of the limb, "P-please…h-help me."
The man's voice was weak and his face was deathly pale as his eyes fluttered unfocused and on the verge of closing for good.
"Tsu please tell me you have a tourniquet kit," Momo asked though her voice was muffled by a surgical mask. In response Tsu ran over and offered Momo a velcro strap with an iron bar attached to it, "Alright, Kenji hold him down, these aren't fun to put on."
Kenji nodded numbly as he moved on autopilot to the man's bedside and conjured a series of abyssal chains bolting him to the bed. Kenji watched as Momo put the tourniquet a few inches above the man's stump before tightening the strap by twisting the iron bar.
After a few turns the man started to twitch and buck, but then as Momo started to strain to make the tourniquet even tighter the man screamed as he started to thrash around trying to escape with the little strength he had remaining.
Momo quickly finished applying the tourniquet before holding out her hand as a syringe filled with an opaque liquid appeared from her palm in a burst of blue and purple light. Momo then pushed the needle into the man's shoulder while pressing down on the plunger and a few seconds later the man went still as his eyes closed peacefully.
After a second Kenji dismissed his chains and turned to look at Momo who was already bandaging the man's arm, "Why didn't you put him out before you applied the tourniquet?"
"How would I know if it was working if he was unconscious?" Momo replied seriously as she doused one of the bandages in antiseptic before applying, "Luckily that was the last major trauma case, and so far the paramedics are reporting that most people trapped inside the buildings are only suffering from minor flesh wounds and broken limbs."
Kenji let out a tired sigh as he reached up and wiped the nervous sweat off his forehead and tried to ignore the blood tinged medicinal smell burning into his nostrils, "That's good, any other news from the other teams?"
Momo shook her head, "Ida is in charge of communications, I've been in here the whole time with Tsu, we're the only ones with any medical training after all."
Tsu shook her head, " I just took classes at my community center.Momo was studying to be a doctor if she didn't get into UA. Like there was ever a chance of her not getting in."
Momo opened her mouth to respond when the earth started to tremble and shake, "It's an after shock!" Momo exclaimed as she bent her knees and braced. The trembling continued for a few moments before coming to a sudden stop disappearing as quickly as it came. For a moment silence reigned but then a horrific sound echoed through the air, and for a moment Kenji wondered if the dread beast horde had somehow reached them when he realized what the source of the noise was.
Sprinting out of the medical tent Kenji froze as he pushed aside the flaps to see the glacial pillars that had been holding the nearly collapsed skyscrapers up start to crack and shatter.
"Oh my god!" Momo exclaimed as she and Tsu stepped out next to Kenji, "It's going to collapse!"
"Not if we stop it!" Kenji rebutted as he shot off across the ground on an abyssal wave all while the sound of metal tearing apart and ice shattering against the ground continued.
[Kenji, do I need to remind you that using your quirk in any major capacity at the moment is a bad idea]
'Sounds like you just did,' Kenji replied, still not slowing down as he rapidly closed the distance between him and the toppling building, 'And just to save you some time don't bother trying to talk me out of this. I don't care if it kills me or I'm playing into Lucifer's plan. I'm not just going to sit on the sidelines while people are dying.'
Whether or not Zurx responded Kenji didn't know as he reached deep inside himself and pulled on every shred of will power he could manage and scrounge together as the wave beneath him started to surge and grow, 'This is going to hurt.'
