Chapter 3 - Stupid looking beach part 2

Here is the text with the paragraphs separated:

It wasn't going to be easy, but I knew it'd be the only way. Normally when I wanted to sneak off to a party, I'd tell my dad I was going to a friend's house or a school sporting event. Sadly, this time none of these were options. I settled on sneaking out.

Plan A was to wait until my dad somehow passed out on the couch to just walk out the door. Plan B was to create an elaborate scheme with the help of my friends that would distract my dad while I made my escape. My dad was going to have friends over that night, so Plan B it was.

It was around 9:45, the party had already started, but we figured we'd show up later anyway. I was patiently waiting for the text from my friend Ally, letting me know I could start preparing to climb over my balcony into the driveway. I had a weird sense of calmness that I never normally had when I'd sneak out. I guess I'd chalk it up to the fact that I couldn't really be in more trouble, and I didn't have much else to lose anyway.

While I waited, I listened to my dad and his friends' voices echo from downstairs. They talked about the regular things: sports, politics, and loss. My dad had recently joined a grief support group. I guess he figured it was better time spent than drinking himself to sleep on Saturday nights. I don't remember much about what they said; I know they asked about me and how I was doing. He lied. They also asked him how he was doing. He lied.

Soon enough, I got the text from Ally, "We're outside," it read. The second I heard that doorbell ring, I began to make my escape. I heard everything; I heard my dad open the door cautiously, "Uh, how can I help you?" he asked. "Uh, yes, hello sir, I think I may have kicked my ball over into your backyard. Do you mind coming with me to help me look for it?" This was my friend Gio. We had been friends since eighth grade and have just sorta always been in the same groups since.

This also meant I had to get going, so I slowly opened the screen door and tiptoed to the front of the balcony. I kept the screen door open to hear anything from downstairs just in case anything went wrong, and sure enough, something did. I was just getting my leg over the balcony when I heard my dad yelling. Remember how I mentioned I've known Gio since 8th grade? Kinda forgot that he's been to my house before. "Wait a minute, don't I know you? You don't live in this neighborhood!" My dad was onto us.

I started moving as fast as I could; I quickly climbed off the balcony onto the lower roof of the house. Meanwhile, I could hear Gio downstairs, running away from my dad, trying to get to the front door. I carefully climbed off the lower roof onto the driveway. Just then, I saw Gio running from the front door to the car, yelling, "Go, go, go!" We all hopped in the car just before my dad got to it.

I saw him yelling at me through the window. "Get your ass back in that house!" he yelled and yelled, his face almost blew up from how red it got. We pulled off as fast as we could as we watched my dad through the window. From the expression on his face, I knew I was dead when I got back, but like I said, I couldn't really be in much more trouble. Finally, with the thought of just how pissed my dad would be in the very back of my mind, we made our way to the beach.
