Chapter 16 - Pleading for Help

The next day, the sky is full of gray clouds. It is a cold morning with raindrops falling from the sky. Kim is standing on a short bridge in the park in her neighborhood. The priest/anesthesiologist, Mr. Miller, who happens to be in the neighborhood, sees her smoking a cigarette.

"Mrs. Karrson?" He calls out to get her attention.

"Oh, Mr. Miller. Small world." She says. He chuckles.

"Just exploring the neighborhood." He responds.

There is a moment of silence between the mother and priest before he speaks again.

                                      "Your son's well?" He asks.

She then shakes her head vigorously while putting the cigarette in her mouth and inhaling the smoke.

"It's gets harder every day." She notes while blowing out smoke simultaneously.

She is overly stressed about this situation. She continues to smoke her cigarette. Mr. Miller nods his head, trying to keep warm at the same time. Later, Kim flicks her cigarette onto the floor and the two, seconds later, walk around the park together.

"So..uh..how long did it take you to become a priest?" She stutters in a low tone.

"Not long actually. Like any other student, I went to high school. Then, over time, I went to graduate school to continue the tradition in my father's footsteps," he explains.

"Your father is a priest?" she asks.

"Was. He passed away during an exorcism years ago."

"Oh, Mr. Miller, I'm sorry." She says sympathetically. He nods, accepting her condolences.

"What's the chance you'll follow through with your father's practices?" she continues.

He stops in place, trying to process what she just asked him.

                                          "I'm sorry?" he asks.

"I mean, if someone gets possessed by a demon or something, how would you follow through with an exorcism?" She asks.

"Well, it's not that easy, Mrs. Karrson," he says.

                                          "I don't understand." She replies.

"In most cases, exorcisms require permission from higher prelates and churches," he says.

"Well, you can do it yourself c-," she says before getting interrupted.

"Not personally, Mrs. Karrson. As I mentioned I would need the church's approval and most of the time it's rarely received." He explains.

Again, Kim sighs and breaks down.

"Can you at the very least check him out? " she says emotionally.

"Of course, I could certainly see him as a doctor," he answers before getting interrupted.

"Oh no, not a doctor! As a priest for heaven's sake! I'm convinced that my son is truly possessed based on a conversation I had with my daughter and I don't know what else to do to help him! I need someone to turn to! He needs you!" she exclaims, emotionally breaking down crying once again.

"Oh, God, please help me!" Help me with my son! " She sobs on his shoulder, pleading for spiritual help.
