Chapter 3 - chapter 3 One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.

After more than an hour walking and looking around Simon Found quite a big ship,a destroyer class according to Mikael.

It was at least 200 meters long, 50 meters wide and 70 meters high and was standing upright like it landed here instead of being dropped from one of the really gigantic ships that Simon saw in the distance.

His first thought was why not try to escape in one of those, until the older man told him that those transports never land; they just drop another batch of junk and fly away.

-than how are they collecting the materials? asked Simon.

-I have no idea i never saw any ship launch from the planet but i have seen just a small portion of the whole thing.

-And before you ask the belts stop and immediately shut the door to the hole if they detect any living organism so don't try it.

After scouting a part of the ship they found it empty but in quite a good condition they even found some cabins that were comparatively clean and even had bunks and cabinets in them.

-I think it's a good spot to claim as a house, and it's not too far from your place.

Spoke Simon still looking around the ship cargo bay.

-And it has a working door, the only minus is lack of power and I don't have a flashlight like you do.

Hearing the words of his young companion Mikael laughed.

-Do you think that's a big problem? Flashlight and a small solar charger cost about 250 Credits. You can make that amount even today if you're lucky and find some good materials.

Simon thought about it for a while and answered :

-Well then, we shall see if i'm lucky? but first of all let's tag this place as my home.

After that Mikael demonstrated how to place a marker and made sure it was on his map.

Completing this task Simon looked around and asked

-So what materials do I transport to the collection point?

-Anything will do even a metal scrap but its not worth it to transport it in small quantities and since you don't have any other way than to carry it in your backpack and hands i suggest you bring some electronic components or wires for those you will get way better price and its not so hard to find them around here.

Mikael pointed around them at the ship wrecks.

-Without any tools it will be hard to dismantle anything.Pointed Simon.

-You don't need any tools kid, for now just go around and gather what you can and when you gather all you can carry meet me by my home.

-I'm going to get some rest. I haven't slept for more than 20 hours when they brought you in and contacted me to help you with the basics.

It was only now that Simon noticed that Mikael looked somewhat tired.

-Ok go get some rest and I'll try to get some materials from the ship right next to mine.

-Sounds good but don't go in too deep, look out for anything dangerous while you're at it. I don't want to drag you back to the regeneration capsule because something fell on you.

Said Mikael while yawning.

-I'll be careful and besides I can't go too deep without a light source.

-well then happy hunting.

After those words Mikael started walking in the direction of his home.

While Simon went into his destroyer and left everything in his backpack in a corner of a cargo hold that was the first room he could enter from the outside going through an airlock on the side of the vessel.

After storing his things he went straight to a small ship next to his home.

This small vessel was quite badly damaged. It looked like it crash landed ,the hull was full of holes big and small ,but that was actually a good thing.

Thanks to that Simon could explore more of the ship.

He first went around the wreck to find the best way in and then decided to go through one of the bigger holes.

Not knowing what to look for, he picked up every small piece of electronics in his sight before going to the next place and doing the same thing.

He found many things that looked like transparent circuit boards lying around.

When his backpack was filled he started to collect some of the wiring and after he got all he could carry a few hours had passed so he went to find Mikael.

He found the older man chilling in front of his house and what was odd he was smoking a pipe.

Mikael spotted him when he approached and when Simon was close enough he asked.

-How was your first gathering trip ,did you find something interesting?

After a little while more Simon came to him and dropped his coiled wires and his backpack that landed with an audible thud .

-I found these wires and something that looked like a circuit board but it's transparent and it feels like a plexiglass to the touch.

Answered Simon fishing one of the items from his backpack and showing it to the older man.

When Mikael saw the item he looked a bit shocked.

-Well it seems like you are one lucky SOB.Mikael started laughing and patting Simon on the shoulder after the initial shock.

-You found some main parts for a ship computer core and those fetch a good price.

Said Mikael still laughing.

-You, my young friend, just found a treasure. Most of the ships here had their computer cores removed. Now you don't have to worry about lack of tools and lights, you can buy them all at once and still have some change left.

After hearing that Simon had a slight smile on his face and was quite happy that he got a good haul.

-Then what are we waiting for? Let's go and sell it.

He said enthusiastically.

-Wait a moment you don't want to drag that to the platform on your back do you?

Mikael said going inside his ship and returning a moment later with something that looked like a big cart but without wheels instead it was hovering and was loaded with materials which must weigh at least a ton.

- Like i said there are many things you can buy.Said Mikael with a grin.

-Put your stuff on the sled and let it go.

It was a quick trip and Mikael pushed the sled without any effort as if it was empty.

At the platform they dropped Simon's materials first and after going through the procedure his balance was looking better with 56000 Credits in it.

After that they sold Mikael's materials and he earned 45000 Credits.

-As you can see, one man's junk is another man's treasure.

Said Mikael on their way to the shop.
