I sat in the room I got at an inn in Percando's territory, still not feeling ready to go home. It was torture being away from Silver for so long, especially because Sylphiette had told me to stay away. But I had to endure it, at least until my magic recovered. I was fidgety and irritable, so I stayed inside my room, avoiding people. I had sneaked home to get some money, hoping no one noticed.
I sensed Silver's presence but dismissed it as a hallucination, until I heard a knock on the door. I froze, not moving or making a sound. She knocked again, but I remained silent. After a while, I wondered if she had left.
No, she hadn't. When I opened the door, she was about to leave. I quickly schooled my expression to look angry.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, my tone harsher than intended.
"Uh…" she hesitated. I wished I could read her thoughts but knew I shouldn't. I tried closing the door, for both our sakes, but she stopped it with her hand.
