Chapter 42 - Batchʼs mission

Are balls the only thing these people do with their lives? I'm curious seriously, ever since I came to this world, I'm not sure how many balls I've attended. Almost every day there is a ball to attend, it's tiring. Maybe I should start calling in sick, that's what annoys me the most I can't, it's worse because I'm actually sick.

"Poppy, see you in an hour, okay?" I said walking out, as happy as I am that Poppy is no longer as clingy as he was I just don't feel comfortable with how quiet he is now, I wish I could do something about his illness. I walked out feeling exhausted, it was my new normal, I felt like the wind could blow me away, it would have been nice to be blown away except that I'll be leaving Poppy behind, I wouldn't do that.

I walked inside feeling homesick even though I hadn't spent a minute in there. I didn't even bother speaking to anybody or confirming if I was in the right place, I walked straight to the only place I belonged, which was with the food. I quietly stuffed my face in a ladylike manner not minding what was going on around me. It was bliss being alone and not having to talk to anyone, mainly because I walked in the opposite direction whenever it looked like someone was approaching me.

I was avoiding another person when I saw Jupiter and Batch walking out together, so I followed them quietly. They stood on a balcony speaking in a suspiciously low tone, I stood behind the door to listen in on their conversation.

"Put it in one of the Percando sister's drink, you make a choice," Jupiter said.

"L… Lady Rose?" Batch asked. Come on, Batch, we used to be friends though you have no memory of that.

"I'll personally prefer Lilyanne, but it's your choice," Jupiter said, and I could imagine that her annoying smile. Why doesn't she want me dead? Am I not annoying enough? What does Lily have that I don't? I'm not complaining, though I'd like to not be in the list of people Jupiter wants dead even if it's for a minute. She'd probably try to frame me or something, not like I care.

"W… Will this kill her?" Batch asked with shaky voice. Oh, Batch, poor Batch, your innocence is beginning to annoy me. I turned and left after losing interest in the conversation, it brings back memories, though.

My poison experience with my fairy godmother of evil was similar to this. As her favorite apprentice, Jupiter held back my poison experience until I was at my lowest when my mother died. She asked me to get rid of Lily, and I was ready until it was time to do the deed, I was so scared that I got cold feet and broke the bottle even though the drink was right in front of me. Jupiter implicated me, and I was arrested, but the duke got me out only to lock me up again, I escaped and went to confront Jupiter and trust my master she set me up once more.

She kidnapped Lily and made poor me think that she was there, I followed her ready to go all villain on her and well the rest of the story. Male leads appear supernaturally, I get killed by Ryle. It's a beautiful story if you remove me from it, those male leads really liked Lily for reasons best known to them, they didn't even care that she might be hurt by her sister's death. Funny thing is Lily knew I didn't try to kill her so she must have been devastated by the news, poor thing would have felt guilty, I should have finished the book.

"I guess I should go see my soulmate," I said to myself as I walked back in. I continued eating in a ladylike manner as I watched Batch walk in and stay by a corner, she kept staring at Lily and Avery. Avery? Oh my gosh, this is huge. He finally joined the group, I was worried that he'd be intimidated by my exceptional beauty and decided to give up because Lily sees my pretty face a lot and might not be interested.

It's too bad I stopped caring about Lily and her male leads because I have been too sick and was forced into early retirement from my job as a cupid, and I don't really give a shit anymore. From fighting for my life to planning an escape plan and reading all the romance novels the world has to offer, I couldn't find a place to fit Lily's romantic endeavors in my really tight schedule.

I watched as Batch approached them, a smile crawled up my face as I took one final bite before leaving to join my former coworker in the minion world. I need to give Batch opportunity to poison Lily because I know she'd mess up if she keeps shaking like that. Avery quietly stepped away when it looked he had been forgotten, poor guy. I walked closer grinning at the thought of what is about to happen. This will be so fun.

"Thank you," I said grabbing a drink from a passing waiter, I brought it to my nose and shook my head changing my mind about drinking it, I still held on to it just in case.

"Oh, Lady Batch, not much of a pleasure meeting you here," I said in a very nice tone.

"Oh, umm… Lady Rose," she stuttered. She's so scared of me it makes me blush.

"Lily, I wanted to see you because I was curious about something," I said turning her full attention to me.

"What?" she asked, taking the bait.

"Do you think dragons can drink wine?" I just brought up a random question to distract her, all that was left was for batch to poison the drinks once I figured out how to get out of Lily's hand.

"I don't know, would be bad for them?" Lily asked, pondering on my stupid question. "But if it's a shifter like yours I'm sure it won't be bad," she continued rambling as she dropped her drink copying my movements without realizing, I took few steps back still engaging the stupid nerd in my question.

"You're probably right," I said, stealing a glance at Batch who was just staring at the drinks intently. "But if I…" I paused when Batch poured the liquid substance, as a big smile grew on my lips. "Lady Batch, do you think dragons can drink wine?" She jumped in shock and arranged her dress awkwardly saying,

"Probably."

This child actually poisoned the two drinks.
