"Waaaahh!"
He continued his wailing.
[I can't stop crying... is it because I'm a baby?]
His crying continued for a few more seconds until he was finally able to stop himself.
[Ah... my eyes hurt.]
He rubbed his eyes with his little hands and rolled over on his stomach.
[Hmm... should new born babies be able to move like this?]
He mused, lifting his head up.
"Abba, boo gaga lu."
[... I can't talk... well I am a baby so I suppose it would be strange if I could.]
[But my bones feel strong... I feel like I could...move!]
His body trembled and he somehow stood on his knees and crawled forward a short distance, all his eyes could see was grass and large feathers protecting him from the cold wind whistling above him.
[Just where am I?]
[Mad Scientist-San, are you there? Your greatest masterpiece has awoken!]
He cried out inwardly, though he already knew there was no mad scientist anywhere since he didn't even wake up in a lab.
[By the way... why is my back so heavy?]
[It feels like there's something on there but I can't see it.]
His neck muscles were still very underdeveloped, there was no way he could turn his head to see what was on his back.
*FLAP!*, *FLAP!*
He heard a loud noise that interrupted his thoughts, a noise which generated a gust of wind.
[Huh? What the fuck is that sound?]
His neck trembled and his head wobbled uncontrollably as he raised his gaze to investigate the source of the sound.
[... A woman?]
He beheld the visage of a woman with long black curly hair and distinctive green eyes and skin as white as snow, her lips trembling in shock.
[!!]
[What the fuck?!]
What he saw next made his heart skip a beat.
Instead of arms, the woman had wings made of pure white feathers, casting his eyes down he noticed that only her thighs were normal, beyond her knees he saw long bird legs with sharp talons.
[What is that?!!]
He cried inwardly, his eyes quivering in fear.
[It's a bit too early to be encountering monsters no?!!]
[How is a baby supposed to fight a damn Harpy?!]
The Harpy stepped forward, her long talons stabbing into the grass and feathers.
[Aaahh She's gonna eat me!]
"Waaaahh!"
He cried out loud, this prompted the Harpy to sprint and scoop him up with its wings.
[Shit! I'm not even ten minutes old damn it! What kind of difficulty is this?!!]
He grit his gums and closed his eyes shut, preparing for his impending doom, he hoped that the Harpy would atleast not eat him alive.
But...
He felt a warm liquid drip onto his tiny face.
[Huh?]
The Harpy was crying with a bright smile on its face, cradling Simon's small frame, the warmth of her wings spreading throughout his body.
[... Do you feel bad or something? Get it over with jeez...]
Simon snorted inwardly, having no interest in the empathetic nature of some monster who was about to eat him.
"... My baby..."
She wept, pulling Simon closer to her.
[Huh? Her baby??]
He turned his gaze to the ground and saw eggshells.
[Wait...]
His eyes trembled...
[Did I get reincarnated as... A HARPY?!]
[...To think I was in an egg all along...]
His expression turned bitter.
[...]
[How long will she keep crying...]
The Harpy wept uncontrollably, brushing her cheeks against Simon's and holding him tight.
///
Around half an hour elapsed and Simon was still in the warm embrace of his Harpy mother.
His stomach full to the brim with her breast milk.
The thought of suckling disgusted him and he had rejected multiple times, but his hunger got the better of him and his baby instinct kicked in.
[...]
[... This will haunt me forever... ]
He laid in her arms with a blank expression on his face.
[How do you lay eggs and produce Milk afterwards Huh?! Are you a bakery??]
He spat inwardly, knowing very well that he had no choice but to suckle if he wanted to survive.
*FLAP!*, *FLAP!*
A sound much louder than before rang in his ears. Raising his gaze he beheld the form of a well built man with chiseled muscles and short blue hair, his face adorned with a stern expression and his bright blue eyes piercing.
Protruding on his back, Simon beheld two large navy blue wings.
[I see... so the males have wings on their backs and their limbs are normal.]
[But damn, bro is ripped!]
[Drop the training routine bro!]
[Pfft! Never mind, you're probably on the juice, Keke.]
Simon let out a soft chuckle, befitting that of a baby.
His Harpy mother's eyes went wide.
"This child... he has been serious this whole time, are you that happy to see your father?"
She puffed her cheeks as she spoke, jealous that her son only giggled upon seeing his father.
[It's not that deep...]
[By the way... how am I able to understand them? They're definitely speaking a different language... is it auto translate?]
[Don't tell me...]
He gulped.
[Status open!]
[...]
[System open!]
[...]
[Open stat window!]
[...]
[Tch!]
He clicked his tongue inwardly.
[Maybe it requires my actual voice, guess I'll have to wait for atleast two years.]
His Harpy father slowly walked towards them, his hands slightly trembling.
"Finally..."
His voice cracked.
"Thank goodness, this is a miracle!"
He exclaimed, tears trickling down his sharp jawline.
///
For years they had been trying to conceive, but his wife did not produce any eggs no matter how hard they tried.
It wasn't until a few months ago that his wife miraculously laid three eggs, the two of them were overcome with joy and did everything they could to keep them safe.
His wife even refused to eat at times and focused solely on incubating her eggs.
A month passed and she continued doting on her eggs.
[Just one more month and I'll get to see my beautiful babies!]
She wriggled her feathers excitedly.
But unfortunately her happiness would instantly vapourise. On the fourth week, one of her eggs suddenly rotted, killing the undeveloped hatchling.
"Kyaaa!"
She squealed, wondering what exactly happened? Though it was not uncommon for eggs to rot, it had happened way too rapidly which was terrifyingly unnatural.
Her husband came flying in after hearing her squealing, they both tried to find answers but they simply couldn't explain it, they had ensured that the nest was clean and free of any parasites or insects so what exactly happened?
That question gnawed at them until they finally gave up and focused on the two remaining eggs.
Two more weeks passed and the same thing happened to one of the two remaining eggs.
The mother flew away from her nest to call her husband, carrying the miscarriaged egg in her talons, even though she knew that nothing could be done.
The Harpy mother feared that she would lose her remaining egg if nothing was done.
But what could her husband possibly do?
She felt despair crawl up her spine, she did not have the energy to try conceiving again.
She met with her husband and presented the miscarriaged egg to him.
The two of them wept as the father began digging a hole to bury his lost child.
"Waaah!"
Suddenly...
The cries of a baby pierced her ears.
[No way...]
She bit her lower lip and hurriedly flew back to her nest.
///
"Hawke, can you believe what your son did the moment he hatched?"
Simon's Harpy mother spoke in a gentle tone, Hawke, her husband stared at her intensely, his eyes begging her to continue.
"He was already crawling when I found him! Fufu."
She laughed elegantly, her voice laced in ecstacy.
"What? Really?! Haha! That's my son alright!"
[Wow, he's friendlier than he seems, I thought for sure he was a dick.]
Simon mused, his eyes fixated on his Harpy father.
"Despite being two weeks early he's already so strong! Haha!"
Hawke picked up his son and held him high in the air.
[Huh?! I was supposed to be in there for two more weeks?! Nah I would've died from being so cramped up!]
Simon chewed his lips, relieved that he broke the shell before suffocating.
