Chapter 7 - Wings of Change (3)

"..."

[Did I say it wrong?]

"Open status window!"

"..."

"System open!"

"... the fuck?"

"Max leveling system open!"

"Infinite cultivation system open!"

"Celestial OP system open!"

"..."

[There's no way you didn't give me a system right? Truck-kun?]

Berkah, or rather Simon was a fan of Manga, novels and anime, he would spend hours on end reading all sorts of fantasy genres, sometimes even depriving himself of sleep.

Usually, in those stories, the main character gets hit by a truck and dies, meet with some sort of beautiful goddess who then grants them some overpowered system which helps them navigate their new world.

It was only natural that he expected to receive said system.

[Shit...]

A cold sweat trickled down his feathered spine.

"I don't have a system??"

"Then... am I just a dude with wings?!"

He chewed his nails and raised his tiny body off the ground.

[I hope there's atleast magic or something...]

[No...]

He shook his head.

[I should just be grateful I get to live a life free of the burdens and expectations from my previous one.]

He mused, walking closer to the edge of the nest. He beheld the orange light of the sun piercing through the clouds in the horizon.

[I wonder what exists beneath those clouds.]

He glanced at the pitch-black wings on his back.

[I can't wait to spread these wings and fly.]

A gentle smile adorned his face.

He had tried flying before but his wings were far too underdeveloped.

*flutter*

He flapped his wings.

[It's weird how naturally I can move them, it's like an extra arm or something, I don't even have to think about it.]

"*sigh*. I hope the blue haired dude brings us food today."

He muttered, referring to his Harpy father.

Hawke wasn't always around because he was busy with something in the city, so he would sometimes visit them whenever he was free.

Whenever he came, he brought cooked food with him.

[Please bring food and save me from your wife's cooking!]

[The only thing she can do properly is diced fruits!]

Anaise's cooking was subpar to say the least.

No, that's putting it lightly.

Hawke understood this so he would bring them food, of course neither him nor Berkah would dare say anything about her cooking.

[...]

[Ah... I miss my phone...]

[!!]

Suddenly, a shadow was casted on Berkah, prompting him to tilt his chin and curiously gaze into the sky.

[I am literally at the top of the world right now what could possibl—]

[!!]

His eyes quivered as he beheld a group of large reptilian creatures with wingspans as long as a school bus.

"*Gasp!*"

He covered his mouth with his tiny hands.

[Are those fucking dragons?!]

He screamed inwardly, intense fear crawling up his spine.

His heart beat like a drum and he slowly backed into the cave.

"*huff*,* huff*."

A few minutes passed and he still grappled with the fear he had just experienced.

[That was insane...]

He peaked outside the cave.

[They're gone right?]

He carefully stepped outside the cave.

[Were they migrating or something?]

[Damn it, if you're gonna put me in a fantasy world with dragons then you should at least give me a system!]

He furrowed his brow in frustration.

After confirming that they were long gone, he confidently stepped outside the cave and into the nest.

"Hmm..."

He folded his arms.

"How do the people of this world survive against dragons? Do they have weapons or magi—"

*Fwhoo!*

[!!]

He felt hot air brush up against his back, followed by snarling.

"Hiek!"

He screamed and immediately turned his body.

His eyes went wide as he beheld the 4meter long reptilian creature with golden eyes and slit pupils, it's scales black as night.

Berkah's body became completely frozen, his lower lip trembling violently and a lump forming in his throat.

The reptilian stood on top of the cave and stared directly into Berkah's eyes.

[H-how did I not hear it land?]

He wondered in bewilderment, swallowing the lump on his throat.

The creature confidently crawled forward on its wings, the claws on its hind legs leaving crevices on top of the cave.

Upon closer inspection Berkah realized that the creature was not a dragon, but was instead a Wyvern due to its small size and the fact that it only had two legs.

[A straggler?!]

"S-stay back!"

His voice trembled.

Not heeding Berkah's words the Wyvern stepped into the nest

It tilted it's head to get a better view of the tiny life form before it.

It didn't take long before it opened its jaws revealing dozens of razor sharp teeth. It coiled up its neck.

[Fuck why did it open its jaws?!]

[Don't tell me... firebreath?!]

[No that's not it... this bastard is planning on eating me!]

"H-hey I'm not food you damn lizard!"

Berkah roared, partly because he wanted to scare the Wyvern away and partly because he wanted to muster up courage.

"... I was just born you know!"

"No way I'm going to die here!"

Berkah shouted through gritted teeth.

The Wyvern launched it's jaws at Berkah!

[Huh?...]

[... it's so fucking slow...]

[... I can see it...]

[... I can easily dodge it...]

His superhuman perception kicked in.

[Move!!!!]

He screamed at his tiny body to move.

*BANG!*, *CRUNCH!*

The Wyvern bit off a large chunk of the rock that encircled the nest and began chewing, certain that it had devoured Berkah.

But...

"I..."

[I actually moved!]

[My body actually moved the way I wanted it to!]

For the first time in his existence Simon's body moved as he wanted it to, an intense feeling of relief and satisfaction rapidly built up within his tiny frame.

[That's right, I got reincarnated into a new body.]

His eyes became glassy, he was no longer confined to his scrawny body which was virtually useless.

"Hahahaha!"

He couldn't control his emotions and let out a chuckle.

"I'm not Mr. Skin and Bones anymore, fuck you Samuel!"

He raised his arms victoriously, his middle fingers pointing at the skies.

The Wyvern turned around and twisted its head in confusion.

If it could talk it probably would have said this: " Is this brat fucking insane? I won't get a stomach ache from eating it right?"

The Wyvern opened its jaws and coiled its neck once more.

"Bring it on you fucking lizard!"

Berkah confidently declared, his deep blue eyes shining brightly.

[...]

[It can't breathe fire, right?]
