Chapter 95 - Beast horde 5

Adam knew something was wrong and he was going to find out what it was. So he focused on quickly finishing this wave of beasts. Then suddenly he heard a commotion from behind him. He turned towards the city and saw a blue colored shield flickering before it turned translucent.

'The barrier....it's back on' he thought.

"Ah.....finally, I was.....getting tired of keeping the wall, I'm releasing this shit!" Owen declared while gasping for breath. And then waved his hand causing the telekinetic wall to fizzle out and some of the beasts formerly hindered by it became free.

Just then Adam came to his side and said "I have a feeling that something is wrong, causing all this beast to head here, and I want to go check it out".

"Are you crazy!? We're already being generous enough by stopping this beasts and the barrier is already back. So even if more beasts come here there will be no chance for them to enter the city. What is the point of figuring out what brought them here?, it's not our job, the military can do that" Owen all but ranted.

"And also are you planning on leaving me with all this beast!?" he asked.

"Yes" Adam answered.

"No way, I...." he started but Adam cut him off. "Don't worry, I'll Owe you one" Adam answered.

"Okay deal" he said without hesitation.

"Shameless" Adam muttered before flying towards the east. After Adam left Owen looked at the remainder of the beasts that remained, most of them had even started running away after he released his telekinetic wall. All in all they were less than fifty.

His body was tired, but this was a small price to pay for what he was going to make Owen do. Just the thought of it made him grin.

Meanwhile Adam was flying east, he wasn't particularly going fast, but he tell he was getting near the cause as he saw more beasts all coming from the same area. He flew for a little while longer, and then he saw it.

Courtsey of a an obsidian monolith which he was sure was an artifact, there was an ugly rift marring the fabric of reality from which numerous beasts were flowing out from.

Adam frowned at the rift, for some reason, it felt disturbing and unnerving to him. He knew there was something wrong here but of all things he hadn't been expecting a rift to another place. At worst he had thought that the beasts were being controlled by a stronger beasts.

If before he was ninety percent sure that the beast horde was planned, now he was a hundred and ten percent sure. Now all he had to do was find a way to close that rift and then he could be on his way, but there was just one problem, he had no idea how to do that.

But then a thought came to his mind, 'how about I keep the artifact in my storage, and since the rift is it's doing, maybe it'll workand even if it doesn't work, what could possibly go wrong?' he thought and decided to give it a try not knowing he just raised a red flag.

He then flew down and touched the top of the obsidian structure with his right hand, it was a black stone with engraved with runes and all sorts of markings he couldn't understand and it was about one meter in diameter and three feet in height and was cold to touch. He then willed it to enter his storage ring. It resisted for a while before it ultimately vanished into the ring.

"Bingo" he muttered as he watched the rift starting to get smaller and smaller perfectly splitting the beasts unfortunate enough to be in it's way until it was the size of a bowling ball but then suddenly something changed, instead of the rift to get smaller and vanish, it exploded outwards and became even bigger than before.

Before it was only a little over two meters in height and four meters wide but now, it became four meters tall and five meters wide.

"What the hell!?" Adam exclaimed breaking his usual expressionless composure. In all theory the rift should have closed and disappeared. Not that he knew anything about it's theory to begin with but still.

"I'll be damned" he muttered as he saw the rift continue to expand. The expansion was small but Adam's keen eye still noticed it and he guessed it'll only continue to do so.

He wondered what to do.He stood watching the rift for a few moments before he walked towards it with unfocused eyes, and since most of the beast around it were killed during it's shrinking there were no beasts to intercept him.

He walked closer and closer to it until it looked as if he was about to enter it, then he raised his hand towards the rift and muttered "fade". The area encompassing the rift swirled and warped and slowly but surely, the rift started fading as if being erased from the strings of reality itself, until it ultimately ceased.

After the rift faded, Adam's unfocused eyes regained their clarity, though if one focused, they could see beads of sweat dripping from his forehead. "It really worked huh" he muttered. Adam had been putting away the issue of his second bloodline for far too long but after what happened now, he realized it was time to bring it back to focus.

He got the idea to use the ability of his second bloodline on the rift or at least one of it's abilities, that from the time he wished it would snow in the academy dorms and it did, but zapped him of all his energy.

From that time he had realized his second bloodline had a lot more to it than matter warping or healing, and he had been putting it off for long, maybe because he didn't want to confront it but now, he had decided to uncover everything about it.

After he was done with his reflecting, he turned and started to walk back to the city, why walk you ask? Well that was because he only had less than two percent of his full energy reserves. Bring out a tube from his storage ring, he gulped it's contents. 'Revolting' he thought as he winced at the concoction's taste.
