Chapter 96 - Aftermath

After he was done with his reflecting, he turned and started to walk back to the city, why walk you ask? Well that was because he only had less than two percent of his full energy reserves. Bring out a tube from his storage ring, he gulped it's contents. 'Revolting' he thought as he winced at the concoction's taste.

It's an energy replenishing potion, but they just had to make this thing so tasteless and revolting' he thought.

But still, despite him dissing the potion, he could still feel his reserves replenishing faster than usual as he walked.

As he walked he realized that he couldn't even see the city. He estimated that if he had to walk back to the city it'll take him at least half an hour even though it was mainly due to the uneven terrain of the wastelands. But he wouldn't have to do that, 'once my reserves recover to at least ten percent, i would fly back' he thought as he brought out another energy replenishing potion and gulped it at once.

"Man I hate this potion" he muttered.

Meanwhile back at the city's border, Owen had finished taking care of those beasts.

"Huff, huff" he countinied to grasp for breath.

"This was what I was missing the past week" he muttered as he thought about how he was bored throughout for the better part of this 'holiday' and it was also the reason why he came to find Adam.

After catching his breath, he then turned back and walked towards the bewildered mass of bloodline holders, who were watching him in awe.

'That's right, watch this handsome lord' he thought in glee. When he reached right in front of them, the major stepped forward.

"Thank you for saving my city" the major bowed deeply. "It was nothing" Owen replied even though his tone and expression betrayed glee.

"No, without you and your friend, all of us here would have perished, and then followed by our city being overrun by beasts and for that I truly thank you" he bowed again.

Then the major said "if I might ask which clan are you from?" he asked. Hearing the man ask that, the other bloodline holders perked their ears eager to hear Owen's answer.

Owen was amused by their behavior, he knew what made the man ask that question, after all he and afam barely looked like in their late teens. Two, they were gold ranks and powerful ones at that and to top it off powerful bloodlines. Those were all the qualities of bloodline holders of the clans and families. Youth, overwhelming strength more than their actual rank and powerful bloodlines. Though it might just be someone like Adam, who is all that but is a commoner.

"Why do you ask that? How sure are you we're not just powerfull commoners?" Owen asked the man.

"You are right, but the way you carry yourselves showed that you are not commoners" the man said matter if factly.

"You're right old man, nice to meet you, my name is Owen Hargreaves" Owen said with a sly smile already knowing how they'll react.

Silence, all the noise in the area and even small mutters ceased as soon as Owen said the word Hargreaves before the major snapped out of it and managed a stutter, "I'm...I'm...sorry for asking you questions" the man bowed again.

"No biggie old man" Owen said patting the man's shoulder but to the man Owen's hand felt more like the weight of the entire world on his shoulder. What type of family are the Hargreaves?, they are one of the seven big families, everything in the human federation is orchestrated by them. One has to know that the seven big families were around even before the emergence.

"Let's go back to the city" Owen said. Even though the major wanted to ask 'arent you going to wait for your friend?' he wisely didn't and instead commanded the soldiers and other bloodline holders to head back to the city.

And so they matched, even the three gold ranks among them didn't fly, why? because Owen Owen didn't. They had no idea that it was because he couldn't. He has less than four percent of his reserves and though he could still fly, he didn't want to risk completely exhausting himself.

As they reached the barrier of the city, they heard a whooshing sound and Adam landed before them.

"Hey what happened out there? You look so pale" Owen asked.

"So do you" Adam replied. "I'm exhausted, but nothing a little rest won't fix" he added. After that they passed through the barrier as if it was non-existent. Turns out it only stops beasts but not humans.

As Adam and Owen walked side by side, Adam turned to Owen and asked "is it just me or are these people acting weird?"

"No it's not, they are acting weird" he said matter of factly before a sly sme adorned his face and he added "of course they would, after all I told them my name".

"So?" Adam asked after a moment of silence.

"My family's name, one of the seven big families!?" he almost fidgeted at the fact that Adam didn't understand.

"Oh I understood that part" Adam said but then added "what I don't understand is why they're acting weird.

"God back to this again, you know what I'm done" Owen sighed.

"Hey old man" Owen said as he walked towards the major. "You got any portals that could take us to Aragon hills?" he asked.

"Of course, if you want I'll prepare it right away" he said rather eagerly. He wanted Owen and Adam far away from him and this city. He felt like he was under great pressure in their presence.

"Okay" Owen replied. "And also make sure no one else knows about our participation in stopping those beasts" Owen added but little did he know, he and Adam were already making headlines.

After some time the portal was ready, "thank you again for helping us" the major bowed once again as the entered the portal. Soon they were back at Adam's house. "I'm taking a bath to wash off all these blood and grime" Adam said as he walked up the stairs as soon as they entered the house.
