She found herself charmed despite her cynicism. There was an earnest boyishness to his manner that disarmed her usual defensive prickliness. Perhaps this one was truly different from the usual scoundrels.
"Well?" Alex prodded her gently with a playful grin. "What other accusations would you level at me next? I'm quite eager to prove my innocuous intentions. And tell you how cool I can be around women," he added.
"You said it yourself, so this is exactly what you do around women, flirting about and making them fall for your cute face right," she said.
"That wasn't what I mean, what I am trying to say is that…" he stammered.
"This is the issue with you men. You all think ladies are all the same, you think you can just come around and make me fall for this," she stated.
"You're wasting your time with that one," Brenda scoffed as Alex flashed her another charming grin. "I can see right through your little act."
