Chapter 99 - Escape (Part Two)

When Reno woke up, he found himself lying in bed.

Looking out through the window, he could confirm by the starlight that he was still on the ship.

He opened the terminal and accessed the public channel, "I hope I didn't sleep too long."

"You're awake?" Claire's voice came through the channel, "Don't worry, you only slept for a short while, didn't miss anything."

Reno sat up and headed to the command hall.

Arriving at the command hall, he saw Claire, Modi, and a few others busy at work. Seeing Reno return, Modi greeted him with a big smile, "Welcome back, Captain. Did you rest well?"

"Not bad," Reno patted Modi on the shoulder, "How's everything going?"

"Everything's fine. We're flying towards the Milky Way Four," Modi replied, pointing to the viewport.

Outside the viewport, the twinkling dot representing Milky Way Four was becoming brighter and brighter.

"What about the Abrodi?"

"They've been notified and are on their way."

"What about Camella and Tychus?"

"They're almost recovered. I asked them to rest in the aft cabin."

"And the Milky Way Base?"

"They're still fighting the bio-humans," Virus walked over and pressed a button on his light brain controller, and a holographic image appeared, revealing the situation inside the Milky Way Base, displaying most of the base's condition.

On the dock, a large number of bio-humans were still fighting the soldiers.

Thanks to Nora's shot, the bio-humans couldn't hide in the shadows and watch the show quietly. Instead, they were dragged out by Nora and became participants in the melee. After their freedom-seeking hearts were revealed, Stephanie made a huge mistake.

"It seems they can't escape now," Reno murmured.

The gate had already been lowered, and the bio-humans couldn't easily leave even if they took over the ship.

"Why, are you still planning to help them?" Claire asked.

"I never considered them enemies. Of course, I won't help those who actively harm us either. It's just a pity... they could have been allies," Reno said thoughtfully.

Facing a behemoth like the New Federation, any force is weak. Only by uniting can they stand a chance. Unfortunately, for their own interests, Stephanie chose to set them up, casting a shadow over their relationship from the beginning.

In this situation, cooperation would become extremely difficult. Even if Reno could let bygones be bygones, he had to consider the opinions of his subordinates. After all, not everyone could prioritize the greater good like him.

In this situation, Reno could only watch the bio-humans head towards their demise and lament it.

But at that moment, a series of huge explosions suddenly erupted.

A massive mushroom cloud rose on the holographic image, almost covering the entire command hall, making people think someone had breached in.

As the mushroom cloud disappeared, a terrifying hole appeared in the huge gate at the port.

To blast such a large hole in the over ten-meter thick super alloy gate, it was no ordinary explosion.

In the terrifying void, a massive starship was slowly sailing in.

The shape of this starship was extremely peculiar, entirely black with large thorns resembling brambles at the front of the hull.

Only those familiar with it would know that these thorns were actually high-energy particle cannon barrels. A vast number of particle cannons concentrated at the front of the ship, like a pig lifting its hindquarters. These particle cannons could be fired individually or collectively, converging all particle light into a super particle cannon for bombardment.

With such great power, naturally, there were inevitable flaws in speed. Its jump speed was half that of a normal starship, conventional flight speed was one-third slower, and its energy shield consumed fifteen percent more. With such a super cannon, blasting open the base gate was naturally a piece of cake, in fact, it only used a portion of the cannons.

When this special starship fell into Reno's eyes, he exclaimed, "It's a Bajuluzhu warship!"

Bajuluzhu warships, like their race, were tough, fierce, combative, and aggressive. Although they looked formidable, they had fatal flaws.

But even with such fatal flaws, their minds couldn't create such a ship. But after comparing it with the specially-made fire god cannon, one could understand why the Bajuluzhu would have such a ship.

Those damn corrupt guys, they dare to sell anything!

But now, it's time for them to taste the bitterness of the weapons they sold.

The roaring gunfire exploded throughout the base, illuminating the deep night sky like fireworks. Although the Bajuluzhu warship had fatal flaws, its firepower was terrifying. Although only one ship, it caused smoke everywhere in the entire base.

"Why would the Bajuluzhu attack the Milky Way Base?" Modi asked puzzled.

Weren't they still doing business with the Milky Way Base before?

"It's obvious that Reno's previous arrangements worked," Claire said.

"Arrangements? What arrangements?" Modi didn't understand.

Reno replied, "Before going to the Milky Way Base, I had Marsha get the Bajuluzhu's contact information from Elizabeth. Although those guys are very cautious and not easy to find, we managed to get in touch with them."

"What did you do to them?" Modi began to understand this time.

"Not much," Reno shrugged, "I just gave them a few of the confiscated Magellan bulletproof armors."

Modi suddenly realized, "No wonder."

Selling the specially-made Fire God cannon to the Bajuluzhu while equipping their own soldiers with Magellan bulletproof armor was an act of blatant manipulation, treating the Bajuluzhu like fools. Even the Bajuluzhu, despite their stupidity, could understand the implication behind it. It would be strange if they weren't angry. Coupled with the previous failed transaction, it had already cast a shadow over their cooperation, causing the initially fragile alliance to collapse, prompting the hot-tempered Bajuluzhu to directly bring their warship over.

However, with just their one warship, under normal circumstances, they couldn't possibly defeat the Milky Way Base. Unfortunately, the Milky Way Base was simultaneously facing internal infiltrations from the Free Heart and the Mutant Alliance. First, the starship was paralyzed by ant invasion, followed by internal chaos in the base, attracting most of the soldiers, affecting the base's defensive capabilities, which gave the Bajuluzhu an opportunity.

The Bajuluzhu warship excelled in stationary output. Without starship interception, its formidable firepower was enough to make any opponent tremble.

This was a typical case of coordinated fighting. The Free Heart was responsible for infiltration and sabotage, the Mutant Alliance was causing internal chaos, and the Bajuluzhu were responsible for external attacks. Although the three sides didn't know each other, they inadvertently achieved perfect coordination in attacking the Milky Way Base.

However, while the performance was perfect, the results might not be satisfactory.

Due to the Bajuluzhu's strong attack, the Milky Way Base fell into disarray. The bio-humans, who had been gradually surrounded, finally got a chance. They seized a gunship and began their assault. At this moment, the ant paralysis had subsided, and the ship regained its mobility. The Bajuluzhu also realized that the bio-humans were obviously not their enemies. They moved their cannons away from them, not attacking but creating opportunities for them. As a result, the bio-humans got a chance to escape.

"Damn!" Seeing this scene, the Free Heart soldiers were also dumbfounded.

Reno was also slightly stunned, "This is really a battle of shooting oneself in the foot."

Reno was right; this battle was full of dramatic changes. Batwoman Stephanie plotted against the Free Heart, intending to cause them trouble, but ended up being dragged down herself and almost failed to escape the base. Reno plotted against the Bajuluzhu, intending to use them to distract the Milky Way Base, further delaying their advance on Milky Way Four, but ended up inadvertently saving the Mutant Alliance. The Milky Way Base plotted against the Bajuluzhu, but ended up being blindsided by a joint attack from the three factions, suffering heavy losses.

The only ones who didn't mess up and shoot themselves in the foot were probably the Bajuluzhu because they didn't understand those things in the first place, so there was no question of messing up.

War is always full of contingencies, and no one can calculate everything. The more people involved, the bigger the place, the more variables there are. That's why truly wise generals never rely on so-called clever strategies. Throughout history, the so-called classic tactics were actually simple tactics; only in books would you find those convoluted and incredible stratagems, because books didn't have to consider implementation issues. From a military perspective, the more complex a strategy, the greater the chance of failure.

Reno rarely played tricks, he predicted the Bajuluzhu's response, but didn't anticipate their timing of attack, resulting in inadvertently helping the bio-humans.

For this outcome, everyone felt quite emotional, but Reno didn't care and even smiled, "It's okay like this. They're alive, and the Federation government will have one more enemy, which means less pressure for us. It's just a pity that we won't receive their gratitude, and it seems they don't intend to give up competing with us for Milky Way Four."

From afar, the gunship of the bio-humans was aggressively chasing towards Reno and his team.
