Chapter 26 - End of the Skills Challenge

Chapter 26: End of the Skills Challenge.

Stepping through the door, Nova found himself in yet another room instantly, as if it were the same teleportation.

'It's white,' Nova thought as he saw the current room.

Unlike the previous rooms Nova was in, the current room was completely white, as if it was snow itself with the purest white possible.

The funny thing was that there wasn't a single stain from shoes or anything like that, the room was bright and shiny.

But that was the only difference, as it had the same features and diameter as the previous rooms; it was flat, without any perfection, and very spacious.

At this sight, Nova's eyes reflected the white itself, looking very strange because, to Nova's eyes, they were transparent.

Observing the surroundings, Nova found several people in the current room, several looked tired, and only Nova and the man he found interesting earlier looked fine.

Most of them had fear in their eyes, they seemed to have had a hard time in the first challenge, but still maintained a firm stance, signifying their determination to continue.

He was also in front of that group of people, but unlike the previous time, this time there was only one masked man, the white-masked man watching them all.

Nova with a calm and serene face walked to the group with the crowd.

The people, upon seeing him, had a slight surprise in their eyes, after all, he was a bit fat, they thought he would be the first to be eliminated, but apparently, he survived and the most surprising thing is that he looked extremely calm as if the challenge was just an old passenger for him.

But soon his surprise disappeared, many had other more important matters, their matters.

"Hey, they never said we were going to die there," a bearded man shouted from the crowd, his voice husky and gravelly, making everyone pay attention to them.

 Much nodded, agreeing with him.

"Yeah, they didn't mention something so they could die over there," several shouts came next, each one claiming the same thing.

The two masked men didn't utter a single word, just stood there looking at them.

They looked extremely natural as if this was normal for it, and Nova knew it.

'It's just like the game...', Nova thought as he looked at the current scenario.

'In the game, the organization never mentioned that in recruitment there was a very high risk of death.

But at the end of the first challenge and realizing that he didn't care about their lives and also that several had died, the NPCs... *cough* people go crazy asking for an explanation.

This happens in every recruitment and considering it's practically almost daily, the two masked ones must have gone through a lot of these complaints that, even becoming immune to them, they just treated it as a simple bridle like now.

Nova uttered not a single word, as the scenario became more outrageous.

Even though Nova knew a lot about the current scenario and how it would unfold, he was still curious and wanted to ask something.

But someone soon took the words out of his mouth...

"You said we were going to have single rooms, but they put us in pairs, why this!" another person raised their voice, this time a woman with short black hair and a relatively normal appearance.

Soon, seeing that no one was answering their first questions, they opted to ask the same questions as the small woman of about 23 years old.

To these frantic shouts and questions, the two masked men did not treat it with a mere breeze, as immediately the black-masked man stepped forward.

His imposing figure caused everyone to instantly hush, waiting for an answer.

Soon, Lars spoke with an amused tone full of mockery.

"To the first question, I don't care about their lives we benefit from them dying too," Lars chuckled and continued.

"And to the last question, simple, doing the same thing over and over again gets quite tiring and boring, so today we decided to switch it up for fun, hehehehehe."

The mocking laughter along with his words made everyone turn pale and the blood no longer even reached their heads.

They just stepped into the lion's den!

No one here cared about their lives!

 They're all lunatics!

Several people within the group were slightly experienced killers, but they wouldn't kill for no reason or just for the fun of it.

They couldn't help but look fearfully at the two masked men in front of them.

They looked at him as monsters disguised as humans, as if he were the representation of death itself.

Several could not believe their ears; after all, they had all heard that everyone who failed the challenge to get in was still getting them alive, walking the streets, or doing anything from everyday life.

The organization was supposedly known for having assassins and mercenaries, which most of the group already were, they just wanted to make a little more money and live comfortably in that profession.

But reality hit them like bricks.

Nova, on the other hand, was calm, he expected such a response with the analysis he made of Lars and the white-masked man's behaviors.

According to him, Lars was someone who liked to have fun, and mock and ridicule anything, but he is also serious when he has to be.

In contrast, with the white masked man, Nova didn't know much, but he seemed much more serious than Lars and even cold and indifferent.

This was the analysis of the personalities of the two masked men, although Nova felt that the scariest of all was the black-masked man for some reason.

Pushing those thoughts away from his head, Nova knew that currently analyzing a lot of those two people who are extremely more powerful than him would be a waste of time, so he set his eyes on the only threat he felt among the group of people.

'He hasn't made any noise,' Nova thought as he saw the serious posture of the man with tanned skin.

It was an interesting contrast, Nova with a calm koala-like demeanor and the man with such a serious demeanor that he looked like an army general.

But Nova doesn't like to watch men left and right either, so seeing his demeanor, he focused his vision again on the pair of masked men walking towards them, passing through the pale and silent crowd.

As he got close enough to them, Nova spoke calmly.

"The person who was in my room doing the challenge is still in there, he has two broken legs, I hope they pick him up."

Nova's words of total calm surprised the two masked men a little, but they regained their composure, they nodded in agreement.

They had already seen everything on the surveillance cameras and knew of Alex's existence, but completely forgot about him.

At the mention of him, the black-masked man touched his ear, communicating with someone.

Instead, Nova returned to his place, wearing a slight smile on his face.
