Nathan's breath caught in his throat. He peeked from the window as the police officers got out of the car and headed straight to the house.
He looked around him, his heart nearly bursting out of his chest with apprehension, as he searched for a way to exit the room without the officers noticing him.
A glimmer of hope ignited in his eyes when he saw a door at the far end of the room which had previously escaped his mind,
With quick and light steps, Nathan hurried to the door, he pushed it open and passed through it just at the moment the the officers flung the front door open.
His heartbeat quickened when he heard their muffled gasp and murmuring. The door he passed through, surprisingly led him outside—it was like a back door.
Nathan peeked from where he hid to make sure no one was watching him. His eyes rested on his car just a few feet away from him.
