Chapter 21 - It glows

"Thank you for the food, Aunty. It was so delicious." Thanked James.

"Oh, my boy. Anytime. Come whenever you want and I will prepare the dishes you like. Ok." Said Aidan's mother.

"That is so sweet of you Aunty. I will tell you what I like to eat. But by the way, whatever you make tastes so good." James praised Aidan's mother's cooking skills and the food she made.

It was very evident whenever he came home and had food made by her without even glancing at them till he finished his food.

"Ok, Aunty. I will leave. Bye Uncle. Bye, Aidan, we will meet tomorrow." Said James.

"Sure, reach home safely and text after you reach. OK." Said Aidan.

James leaves from Aidan's home.

"Dad, you went without informing me. I am upset." Said Aidan.

"I am so sorry Aidan. I did not get the time to inform you about it. It was urgent so I had to go." Said Mr. Johnson.

"Ok. I may forgive you but only on one condition." Said Aidan.

"And what is that?" asked Mr. Johnson.

"You went to the previous place where our family used to stay. Did you get something for me? That can make me forgive you." Said Aidan.

"Of course. Did that ever happen? Me going somewhere and not bringing something for you. It is impossible." Said Mr. Johnson with a lot of pride.

"Wow. Love you, Dad. What did you bring?" asked Aidan.

"It is in the bag. Go and get it. It is in my room." Said Mr. Johnson.

"Ok. I will go and get your bag." Said Aidan and rushed to his Dad's room.

As he reached there, he started searching for his Dad's bag. While he was searching for the bag, a sound reached his ears.

He did not pay that much attention to it. Again, he heard something. So, this time, he tried to see where that sound was coming from. As he started searching for the source of that sound, he found that it was coming from the side table which was present beside the bed. He went there and saw that something was glowing from one of the drawers of that table. He reached the table with careful steps. As he reached the drawer, the glow that came from the drawer increased.

Aidan was thinking if he should open the drawer or not. Finally deciding to open the drawer, he opened it.

As soon as he opened the drawer, the light coming from the drawer suddenly increased to the point that could blind someone. Aidan closed his eyes as his eyes could not bear the light that came with such intensity.

After some seconds, he tried to open his eyes and saw that there was no light anymore.

That is when he found that there was a very old book which was kept inside the drawer. He tried to recall if he had ever seen that book. And the answer was no.

"What is this book? I have never seen it here." Saying this, Aidan picked up the book.

"Maybe this might be the present that Dad got for me. It glows in the dark. Wow." Thought Aidan.

"But Dad told me to get his bag. The present was in it. I will take the bag to him and eventually, I will get to know what is my present. Anyways, this book is old to gift someone." Said Aidan and kept the book back in the drawer.

He then again started looking for the bag and found it near the other table.

He took the bag and went to his Dad who was waiting for Aidan in the living room.

"Dad, is this the bag you asked to bring?" asked Aidan.

"Yes. That is the one." Said Mr. Johnson.

Aidan ran down the stairs with the bag in his hands and handed it to his father.

"Dad, is the present that you bought for me inside this bag?" asked Aidan.

"Yeah. Why?" asked Mr. Johnson.

"I thought that you bought me that book which glows in the dark. But thought why would you gift me an old-looking book? Is it for Mom?" asked Aidan.

Now Mr. Johnson was thinking about which old book is Aidan talking about and that too the one which glows in the dark.

"Which book are you talking about Aidan?" asked Mr. Johnson.

"Dad, do you not know which book I am talking about? It is ok if you do not want to give it to me, but you can tell me the truth. Is it for Mom?" asked Aidan.

"I don't remember Aidan. What book are you talking about?" said Mr. Johnson.

"Oh, Dad. The one in the drawer." Said Aidan.

Mr. Johnson was shocked now. But he wanted to confirm if Aidan was talking about the book he got from his old house.

"Which drawer Aidan?" asked Mr. Johnson.

"The one beside the bed Dad." Said Aidan.

Now it was confirmed. Aidan was talking about the same book. But it never glowed in front of him.

"Did the book glow?" asked Mr. Johnson.

"Yes, Dad. It did. Why are you asking me that question? You already know it right?" said Aidan.

"Yeah, Yeah. I know. Haha." Said Mr. Johnson.

"Now give me my present." Asked Aidan.

"Yeah. Here you go." Said Mr. Johnson and took out a video game set from the bag and handed it to Aidan.

"Wow, Dad. I was waiting to buy this new video game set. I can't believe this. Thank you, Dad." Said Aidan.

"You are most welcome my son." Said Mr. Johnson.

"How did you know that I wanted this?" asked Aidan.

"I am your Dad. I should know what you are wishing for." Answered Mr. Johnson.

"Thank you so much, Dad. I will go and play this with James tomorrow." Said Aidan. He took the gift, wished his Dad and Mom good night, and went to his room.

Now Mr. Johnson was puzzled. How on earth did the book glow which did not happen in front of him since when he found the book? Aidan was so sure that the book was glowing. Does that mean...….it is something connected to Aidan? He was more scared than before. If it is true that all of these things have something to do with Aidan then Mr. Johnson will never let anything harm his precious son. But before jumping to the conclusions, he wanted to confirm about it.

He thought a lot about it and as it was night, he thought to do what he was planning the next day.

Aidan was in his dreamland already. Aidan's mother too was in a deep sleep. The one who could not even close his eyes was Mr. Johnson. He was not ready for what was coming. He thought if it was false what he was thinking. He did not want his son to be dragged into all of these things. He could not sleep at all. He will save his family even if it means sacrificing himself.

The night was long and Mr. Johnson could not sleep. He was planning what to do so that he could know the truth. All night he was just planning and planning. Sleep was far away from his eyes.

It was morning and that's when Mr. Johnson heard.

"Bye Mom. Take care." From downstairs.

Yes, he fell asleep early in the morning. He ran downstairs knowing it was Aidan leaving for school.

He reached downstairs to find that Aidan was already gone.

"Did Aidan leave already?" he asked his wife.

"Of course. He has school to attend." She answered.

Now Mr. Johnson has to wait until Aidan returns.

"Do you not have work today?" Aidan's mother asked.

"No. I took a leave." Answered Mr. Johnson.

"OK then. You get fresh and have breakfast." Aidan's mother.

Mr. Johnson went back to his room. He opened the drawer and he did not see the book glowing.

He again went into deep thought. To know the truth, Mr. Johnson could do nothing rather than to wait for his son to return.

Back at the dark chamber:

"Did you people find something?" asked the Guide.

"Yes. As we know he went to his old house. He stayed there for a whole day and a night." Said the younger one.

"Yes." Said the Guide.

"He came back yesterday night." Said the younger one.

"Is it? What do you think? Did he find something?" asked the Guide.

"As far as I know, he did not find anything and had to return doing nothing. Guide, I don't think we should rely on them. We should confirm that they are the ones we have been finding, by ourselves." Said the younger.

"Wait my boy. Have patience. We will very soon get to know about it." Said the Guide with a dangerous smile on his face.

"I think Guide is right. Let us wait. The truth will be in front of us in less than some days." Said the elder one.
