As the night deepened, shrouding the forest in an impenetrable darkness, Aidan and his family huddled together in the safety of the cabin, their minds awash with questions and fears. Despite their exhaustion, sleep eluded them, each passing moment stretching out into an eternity of uncertainty.
"Do you think we're safe here?" Aidan's mother whispered, her voice barely above a breath.
Aidan glanced around the dimly lit cabin, his eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of danger. "I hope so," he replied softly. "But we can't be sure. We need to stay alert."
His father nodded in agreement, his brow furrowed with worry. "We'll take turns keeping watch," he suggested. "That way, we can all get some rest without letting our guard down."
