Chapter 8 - Never Again

"Oh?" Amused, The Honored One had a small smile on his face as he eyed Alistar.

"He's getting closer." He said, staring at Alistar for a while longer before relaying his current findings to his main consciousness.

Meanwhile, Alistar could be seen with a confused look on his face after not getting a response or feeling a change within him.

Heaving a sigh, Alistar had a slight frown on his face as he kept staring in front of him. Still puzzled about the answer to the third sentence in Ten Dimensions.

"Could I be forgetting something?" He asked himself while trying to remember everything that could last forever.

Looking at the ceiling for a while, Alistar plopped down on his bed with subtle signs of frustration visible on his face. "What could I be missing?"

Soon, thirty minutes had gone by in the blink of an eye and if Alistar's tummy hadn't protested about how badly it was getting treated, he could have spent about an hour more thinking about the answer to the third sentence.

Tired after seeing that he wasn't getting any positive results, Alistar finally decided to listen to his tummy.

Lightly stretching after standing from his bed, Alistar walked towards the door before opening it and heading straight for the dining table.

Upon reaching his destination, Alistar had a small smile on his face as he stared at the sight in front of him.

It was desolate. Devoid of a single soul but that was what Alistar wanted, he loved it the way it was. He preferred this to getting annoyed by those eating beside him.

Taking his eyes off the table, Alistar ran his gaze through the living room desperately praying that the person he was looking for would be present.

After seeing that Sister Lilith was on her favorite chair and reading a book in her hand, Alistar heaved a sigh of relief.

If she had already gone out, Alistar was about seventy-five percent sure that he would have to stay hungry till she got back and the notion of that happening spooked him since it might take her about four hours to get back.

Shoving those thoughts to the back of his mind as soon as they appeared, a shiver ran down Alistar's spine when he imagined himself lying passed out on the ground.

"Uhm... Sister Lilith." Alistar said in the most polite tone he could muster while walking closer to where she sat.

"Yes, Alistar?" She replied, having every ounce of her attention directed to the book in her hand.

"Can I have my breakfast now?" He continued in the same polite tone while stopping in front of her.

Finally taking her attention off the book, she said. "I've told you countless times- Sigh... Come get it."

Forced to swallow her words after seeing the cute expression on Alistar's handsome face, Sister Lilith placed the book she was reading on a stool not too far away from her where she sat before walking toward the kitchen.

"Works every time." He muttered with a grin on his face. Pleased that his looks hadn't failed him since his reincarnation.

"Good thing my face doesn't look like how it did in my past life." Laughing mockingly after remembering how ugly he was in his past life, Alistar touched his face for some time before walking after Sister Lilith.

He was sure that if he made a cute expression with his old face it would get spat on. Heck, the person might be disgusted to the point that his face would be turned to mush. And this was a result of it being common knowledge that cute and ugly things could never get along.

Seated on the dining table after a while, Alistar could be seen with clasped hands as he said with a smile on his face. "Thanks for the meal."

All this so that he could keep the lovely and easygoing good-boy attitude he had in front of Sister Lilith.

Smiling after hearing what he said, Sister Lilith lightly stroked Alistar's head as she said. "Eat up."

'His hair is so soft!' Surprised, she exclaimed within herself as she kept stroking his head backward

'I am not a f*cking dog.' Alistar cursed within himself while trying to prevent his eyebrows from twitching.

As a person who loved dogs, Alistar hated getting patted on his head as it made him feel like a dog but worst of all, it reminded him of his past life.

A life where he was a dog to his Boss. An obedient dog who never dared to refute his master's order even following every instruction to a T. A dog who had absolute loyalty. But in the end, he died while being a dog.

Pathetic to the point that even when death was staring at him he stuck to his role as a dog. A dog who instead of getting mad when his bitch cheated on him was begging for that bitch to return to him.

Never again would he let himself become another person's dog. He'd rather die than live in such a shameful way ever again.

"Never again," Alistar muttered, clenching his fist while trying to suppress his fury.

He didn't want to make Sister Lilith get the impression that he was angry at her he was just slightly irritated when she kept on stroking his head.

Quickly getting his emotions in check, Alistar smiled from ear to ear and said politely while staring into Sister Lilith's eyes. "Umm... I can't eat if you keep stroking my head."

Letting out a dry laugh when he was done, no one would have thought that Alistar was livid since he looked like how he always did when in front of Sister Lilith —calm and happy.

"Oh, my bad." She chuckled before removing her hand from Alistar's head and walking towards her favorite seat.

"Never again." With gritted teeth, Alistar said. His expression turned cold immediately when Sister Lilith turned her back to him.

Taking a spoon of beans, Alistar felt like a volcano was within him as the last words of his wife and boss kept playing in his mind like a broken record.

When Alistar was done with his food, he immediately washed the plates before heading towards the staircase. Lost in thought, he ignored those around him as he placed a foot on the stairs.

Just when Alistar was about to place his second leg on it, Sister Lilith's voice rang out from behind him. "We'll be going to Azurewind City next tomorrow so if you want to visit your parents' house I suggest you do so tomorrow."

"I will think about it," Alistar replied while turning to give her the same easygoing smile he always had.

Not wasting too much time, Alistar kept on walking with a rarely-seen cold expression on his face. 'Never again would I be someone's dog.'

'But for that, I need to get stronger.' Alistar thought, remembering the only thing his father had left behind.

"I guess I'd be paying it a visit," Alistar muttered, making his way towards his room with thoughts on how he would get it filling his mind.
