Chapter 6 - Confrontation

Once trapped in the metal corridor, Sun Jake was now completely twisted and deformed. The impact of the space station's landing must have been significant, with traces of burning in many places.

Previously floating in the air, various parts are now scattered on the ground, including those of robots. They all look severely damaged and scattered everywhere.

Rainwater continues to drip from the cracks, and there is already some water accumulating on the ground.

Surviving the disaster, Sun Jake and Tapai move through the wreckage of the space station, planning to leave the place to avoid the approaching lunatic.

However, their speed is clearly slow, as a roaring sound comes from above Sun Jake's head, a spaceship breaking through the rain mist and heading towards them.

The spaceship looks like an enlarged, wheel-less supercar covered in exaggerated graffiti. What shocks Sun Jake even more is that the front of the spaceship is tied to a decaying corpse with outstretched hands.

Sun Jake did not see it wrong; it is indeed a corpse! Maggots are already crawling out of the bullet holes in its face!

At this moment, Sun Jake has a whole new understanding of the so-called cyber lunatic mentioned by tapai. Regardless, he absolutely does not want to encounter such a person.

"Quick! Hide!" Sun Jake swiftly hides behind a metal wreckage with tapai.

As the spaceship with the corpse swiftly flies by, another seemingly worn-out helicopter approaches.

When it is about a dozen meters above the ground, the helicopter's door suddenly opens, and a man with a gun in his hands, covered in skull tattoos and a rooster crest on his head, jumps out.

In midair, he pulls the trigger, firing wildly in all directions, laughing maniacally with gold teeth in his mouth. "Hahaha! nunarjuaqtittaqtilgu!!"

As the man gets closer, Sun Jake suddenly notices that his legs and feet are distinctly silver, clearly prosthetic.

With a dull thud, the man with the rooster crest heavily hits the space station ruins, followed by several similarly dressed individuals jumping out of the floating vehicle.

Their conversation can be heard, but Sun Jake doesn't understand a word.

"What are they saying?" Sun Jake asks Tapai quietly.

"They're all connected to the local network, synchronized positioning, and all damn releasing the drones! Something big fell down; there must be good stuff inside! Hurry up! Others are all rushing over here; if you're slow, you won't even get a sip of soup."

Before that tapai can translate, a shell with thick smoke suddenly flies up from somewhere, directly blowing up the spaceship in the sky into a fireball.

"Damn! They just started without a word! Truly crazy!" Taking advantage of the explosion's cover, Sun Jake and tapai quickly move away from the explosion.

The atmosphere in the entire space station wreckage has become tense, with more and more people flying in with the sound of explosions, turning the entire ruins into a battlefield.

"Boom!" Another explosion resounds; a huge fireball descends from the sky, almost grazing the heads of the two.

Surrounded by danger, Sun Jake's mind is tense, looking at the environment and feeling bitter. "Why am I so unlucky, encountering trouble everywhere?"

"Tapai, are there any weapons nearby?" Sun Jake asks that in this situation, if there are no weapons at hand, they will truly be at the mercy of others.

After the screen on the Tapai's face flashed, they walked towards the debris on the left. "Yes, this way is the security room."

After searching through the debris for a while, the Tapai handed a gray, metal-colored rifle to Sun Jake.

"What is this?" Sun Jake padded, the heavy and cold weapon in his hand.

"Model: r-11:3 Technical Assault Rifle, powered by electricity."

"How do I use it?" Looking at the weapon in his hand, Sun Jake's breathing became rapid involuntarily.

"Hold it steady with both hands, brace it here, then aim the muzzle at the enemy and pull the trigger. In this urban combat environment, there is no time to aim. The one who shoots first has the advantage. This gun's sight is best adjusted for beginners."

Sun Jake tried to gesture a few times, feeling somewhat reassured by the heavy weapon in his hand. However, even though he now had a weapon, he still did not want to use it.

"Let's go. How long until we leave the space station's perimeter?"

"According to my radar display and current speed calculation, we will probably leave the outermost perimeter in about twenty minutes."

Before he could finish speaking, with a swoosh, Sun Jake felt his left ear heat up, followed by a tingling sensation.

"Enemy attack." Before Sun Jake could react, the screen on the Tapai's head turned red instantly, quickly pulling the trigger in the direction of the ballistic trajectory.

"Oh, fuck!" Sun Jake, holding his ear, leaned towards the nearby cover. When he put his hand down again, his palm was already stained red with blood.

A semicircle above his left ear had been shot off by a bullet. If it had been slightly off, his head would have been relocated!

Gritting his teeth, Sun Jake cautiously peeked his head out from the cover, looking towards the attackers who had just ambushed him.

These people were hiding behind cover, shooting towards of Tapai. They looked like a gang with numerous tattoos on their faces and hands, cursing and swearing with various dirty words that he couldn't understand.

The only common mark was the inverted cross brand on their necks.

What was more distinctive was that these people, like the ones who had jumped from the hover car earlier, had various cybernetic enhancements on their bodies.

Upon seeing the bullets hitting the Tapai, sparking fires, Sun Jake immediately raised his gun, resting it on a slanted flame-retardant metal plate, and quickly retaliated towards them.

The initial recoil made Sun Jake's first few shots miss their mark, but as the Tapai had mentioned earlier, this gun was indeed suitable for beginners. In one time, one of the attackers was hit in the head, jerking backward violently.

In this life-and-death situation of killing someone for the first time, Sun Jake couldn't afford to think about any psychological pressure. In this scenario, it was either the enemy dies or he dies; he wished he could kill more of them.

"Tapai!! Find cover!" Sun Jake shouted to the robot as he saw Sun Jake momentarily safe. The Tapai, riddled with bullet holes, also quickly retreated to Sun Jake's side.

"Boom!" Accompanied by a loud explosion, the two behind the cover looked extremely disheveled.

"Their firepower is too strong; we are no match for them! We need to find an opportunity to retreat quickly." The chaotic environment forced the Tapai to raise their voice.

"No kidding! I know that, but in this situation, how do we escape?!" Sun Jake fired a burst of shots, then holstered his gun, turning to run for his life, which was pure suicide.

But continuing the fight was not an option either; the enemy had already begun to flank them, seeing that there were only two of them.

As Sun Jake frantically pondered his next move, intense gunfire erupted from the left ruins.

Hearing the gunfire, Sun Jake immediately had an idea. "Tapai! Let's retreat in that direction and let them fight each other! We can seize the opportunity to escape!"

"Is that a good idea?"

"You said they're not very bright, right? Now it's time to test the truth of your words! Besides, do you have a better plan right now?"

With that, Sun Jake began to pull the trigger while retreating.

After a brief few minutes, the gunfire behind them grew closer, and Sun Jake could even catch a glimpse of figures in the rubble behind him, but the two sides still hadn't engaged in combat.

It was as if they had an unspoken agreement: you fight yours, I'll fight mine.

A somewhat disheveled Tapai leaned towards Sun Jake. "I knew this wouldn't work. They're crazy, but they're not stupid."

Sun Jake nodded in agreement. "Exactly. That's why we need a decoy to make them shoot at each other."

With that said, Sun Jake looked at the Tapai beside him, patting his shoulder as a sign of appreciation. The screen on the Tapai quickly displayed a new image.
