Chereads / Nara's Revenge? / Chapter 6 - Golden Boy

Chapter 6 - Golden Boy

Nathan Hill was the epitome of success, a shining beacon in his family's legacy, especially in the eyes of his beloved grandfather, Timothy Hill.

Timothy was not only a great man but an even greater grandfather. Nathan had learned everything from him, and their bond was unbreakable.

However, Timothy's failing health cast a shadow over their close relationship, as Nathan faced the harsh reality that he would soon have to say goodbye to the man he admired and loved so deeply.

It was surprising how much death loved taking the people he loved. First his mother when he was only nine and then...Rebecca, his...everything, and now it was coming for his grandfather. The only man he looked up to and loved very much.

Nathan sighed.

His grandfather had requested the presence of the entire family at the family estate that evening to read his will.

Nathan didn't fancy that idea very much for three reasons.

The first was Nara, his unique wife. He wondered how she would behave in front of his family, especially now that she knew his secret.

She had never liked his family from the very beginning and he didn't blame her. He didn't like them either.

But Nara had always managed to interact peacefully with them in the past. But now, during current circumstances, Nathan feared that Nara was going to act crazy or worse.

Just the way she had been acting for the past two months since she entered his gallery and found his paintings of Rebecca.

He remembered the hurt look on her face that day, the pain in her eyes caused him great trauma.

He never meant to hurt her but he just couldn't let go of Rebecca; and he still couldn't. Her memories were still fresh in his head even though it had been three years since her death; it still felt like yesterday.

Plus, Nara wasn't the only reason Nathan didn't fancy the idea of going over to his family's house. The second reason was his uncle, Darren.

A conniving asshole whose greed knew no bounds. The man was trouble itself and would do everything in his power to disrupt the peace of the family.

One time, Darren had audaciously proposed seizing control of all the family businesses, since he was the firstborn and heir.

This, of course, angered Nathan's grandfather who saw his son as nothing but a stupid, prideful idiot who did everything wrongly.

And because of that, named Nathan as the official overseer of all the family business both local and overseas.

This, in turn, angered Nathan's Uncle, and since then, Uncle Darren either tried to one-up him or sabotage him. It had been an endless battle between them since then.

The final reason Nathan didn't fancy the idea of going over to his family's house, whether he believed it or not, was actually because he was nervous about the reading of his grandfather's will. He wasn't sure what was written there and was afraid to find out.

He sighed... it was time to go home and prepare for the evening. He had already mentioned it to Nara before he left for work that morning; he hoped she was sane enough to go with him tonight.
