Chapter 57 - 57. A magician named Merlin

57. A magician named Merlin

 "Stop!"

Silver halberds intertwined under the city gate.

When the sun shines on it, it glows with a pure white afterglow.

The guards stopped the slovenly silver-haired man in front of them.

"Who are you?! What do you want to do?!"

Facing the questions from the guards, the silver-haired man was not nervous at all.

 "Merlin."

"Or you can call me something else if you want. I don't care about the name that much."

 "..."

The soldiers looked at each other.

It was obvious that they didn't know Merlin's name - at least not yet.

Naturally, they had no impression of the man in front of them.

 And Merlin didn't mind either.

He sat on a stone beside him, looking relaxed and at ease.

"It doesn't matter if you don't know, it won't be of much use anyway."

"Go and call the person who can take charge. I want to talk to him."

[Although Merlin in front of him felt careless, what he said was inexplicably touching. ]

[Even the two ordinary guards in front of him can feel that something is a little bit wrong. ]

[They began to divide work and cooperate. ]

[One person continued to guard Merlin where he was, while the other person ran towards the city. ]

[Soon, another figure appeared at the city gate. ]

[That is Gawain—the man whose status in the city is second only to you and Morgan. ]

"Lord Gawain, this is the man."

The guard led the way and pointed to where Merlin was.

 "..."

Gawain didn't make a sound - he was silently observing Merlin in front of him.

He is careless and unkempt, with an inexplicable sense of frivolity in his behavior.

Every point pokes at the intolerable point of Gawain who demands the highest knightly standards from himself.

 To be fair.

If there were not many restrictions of knighthood, he felt that he might draw his sword and stab this guy.

 but--

Gawain has not forgotten everything he needs to abide by as a knight.

The sword blade cannot be swung at others casually.

Because that would only make the right to speak subordinate to strength and weakness.

He didn't want to see this happen.

Gawain calmed down his emotions and prepared to make tentative contact with Merlin.

 "Hello, I am..."

But before the knight could announce his name, Merlin struck preemptively with a smile on his face.

 "You're Gawain, right?"

 "What?"

Gawain was a little surprised - after all, he had never met the person in front of him.

But Merlin continued to behave as before.

"Gawain, the magic blessing on you is indeed very powerful."

"But it's a pity. It's not you I want to see. If possible, could I trouble you to make another trip?"

 "..."

Gawain's mentality gradually changed from slightly disgusted to cautious.

The Merlin in front of him unexpectedly knew his name and the blessing from his mother Morgan within such a short period of time when they first met.

This is definitely not something that ordinary people can do.

 "So--"

"Do you want to see my father and mother?"

"No." Merlin shook his head, "Just see your father."

"But he is busy," Gawain answered truthfully.

"It doesn't matter." Merlin smiled slightly.

"Just say the name Artorius to him—and he will come to see me."

 "..."

[Gawain felt that the Merlin in front of him was by no means an ordinary person. ]

[He realizes that this is the message that must be passed on to you. ]

[After reconfirming the name he wanted to pass on to you, he walked through the streets of Camelot and came to you. ]

[He followed Merlin's wishes and told you the name "Artorius". ]

[You realize that this man is the magician who has been secretly interfering with your and Morgan's plans. ]

[You temporarily entrust the matter at hand to Gawain. ]

[You decide to go meet Merlin. ]

 "Lord Ian!"

Ian's arrival made the guards at the city gate nervous.

 "Let him in."

 "Yes!"

 "Thank you so much."

Merlin came to Ian's side and looked very grateful.

"Lot King Ian, without you, I probably wouldn't be able to enter the city."

 "..."

"Stop talking nonsense." Ian said with a tight face, "Let me know your purpose."

"Let's change places first and then talk." Merlin smiled gently.

"Where do you want to go?"

 "There."

[Merlin didn't just point to a random place. ]

[That's on top of the city wall. ]

[Artorius once almost slipped and fell from here. ]

[You realize that he definitely knows something he shouldn't. ]

[You decide to comply with his request for the time being. ]

[You have climbed onto the city wall. ]

"Oh...Is this the place where Artorius almost fell?"

Merlin knelt down and looked at the patterns on the city wall, then stretched out his fingers and rubbed them a few times.

"I can just imagine what that would be like."

"Are you just here to see this?"

 Ian asked, standing behind him.

"That shouldn't be the case, right?"

"Of course not." Merlin stood up and restrained his tone from before.

"I just want to tell you that even if you hadn't helped me back then, Artorius wouldn't have died."

"Merlin, what are you trying to prove?"

"I don't want to prove anything." Merlin shook his head, "I'm just here to tell you."

 "That's too far-"

Merlin took a few steps forward and stood squarely beside the city wall where Artolis almost slipped and fell.

"On the way here, I saw the wheat fields you and Morgan left outside the city."

"I have to admit, you do have some abilities."

"So Merlin, are you going to admit all this?"

Ian's hand stopped on the scabbard on his waist.

 "No."

 "I don't care about that."

Merlin looked at the large golden wheat fields outside the city and replied without hesitation:

"The election of the new king will begin soon."

 "You.."

Before Merlin could finish his words, Ian, who was behind him, drew out his sword and stabbed it towards his heart.

This is not an unreasonable draw of the sword.

Rather, he sensed that Merlin had no possibility of siding with him and Morgan.

 In that case——

Then kill him in a mean way.

No matter how powerful the magician is, his body is extremely fragile the moment the sword penetrates.

According to common sense, this should indeed be the case.

 But what if——

His body had never been here before?

The blade passed through Merlin's chest, but it did not cause any damage.

He turned back and looked at Ian in disbelief.

"Your mobility is much stronger than I thought."

"So--"

"I'll just leave one more prophecy."

"The king's election will definitely continue."

"He who pulls the blade out of the stone will be the new king."

 "No one can stop this."
