Chapter 9 - Selling Bloodline Magic

Yann's mechanical hand extended, his eyes fixed unwaveringly on Charlie.

Beneath the cold, black armor lay a pair of crimson eyes.

The moment Charlie caught sight of those eyes, a solemn expression washed over the elderly man standing behind him.

The figure before them, clad in a black cloak, was anything but ordinary. Just from the intensity of his gaze, it was evident that it emanated an aura far beyond human capability.

What further astonished the old man was when he attempted to probe Yann's presence with his spiritual senses, only to encounter emptiness. Despite Yann being seated right in front of him, his presence remained elusive to the probing of his consciousness!

This prowess was extraordinary!

Sitting beside the towering figure in the black cloak was a relatively diminutive individual. The old man's attempts to investigate were met with absolute resistance, as the person effortlessly blocked his scrutiny with formidable strength!

"May I inquire if you are selling seventh-level magic schematics?" Charlie, seated across from Yann, respectfully inquired.

Yann nodded, then produced a stack of papers from within his garments.

"Would it be possible to select one for appraisal by Master Kolmando, an eighth-rank mage from our auction house?

Please pardon our skepticism; it's merely a customary practice at our establishment. We hope for your understanding,"

Charlie explained, rubbing his hands together.

In truth, Charlie's precautionary measures aimed to protect himself from potential deception. As a mere merchant with no knowledge of magic, it would be ludicrous if he were to unwittingly auction off a counterfeit item. Hence, he brought along Master Kolmando, the most powerful mage in the auction house. Although Kolmando initially showed reluctance, upon hearing it was a seventh-level dark magic, his interest was piqued, prompting him to accompany Charlie without further ado.

Yann withdrew the first sheet and handed it over, prompting the other party to authenticate its authenticity. He refrained from revealing all the drawings to prevent the possibility of the observer memorizing the Death Touch magic schematic after a single glance. Such precautions were necessary, as some mages possessed unique mnemonic techniques, such as shorthand.

Taking the papers with due solemnity, Kolmando lowered his head to examine them. While magic varied in attributes, there existed fundamental connections between different forms, akin to the relationship between physics and mathematics. By studying dark magic, one could indirectly enhance their proficiency in their primary attribute of magic.

Furthermore, dark magic was renowned for its obscurity, profundity, potency, and terror, rivaling destructive magic in power. However, commensurate with its strength was its rarity!

The analogy of magic to a pyramid held true: the lower levels abounded with spells, whereas the higher tiers grew increasingly scarce. Hence, some eighth-rank mages continued to employ seventh-level magic, not due to reluctance but rather due to the dearth of spells available for study.

Upon commencing his study of the magical blueprint, Kolmando was astonished! His trembling hands clutched the parchment tightly.

"This...this..." Kolmando's eyes remained fixated on the parchment, fearing to overlook even the slightest detail.

"Master..." Charlie, witnessing Kolmando's near-ecstatic demeanor, inquired with concern.

"Silence!" Kolmando's abrupt shout silenced Charlie.

Charlie wisely refrained from uttering the words he had intended to speak.

After a prolonged period, Kolmando withdrew his gaze from the parchment, fixing his scorching gaze upon Yann and the parchment in his possession. "There's no mistake; it's genuine, absolutely genuine. I couldn't have imagined such a miraculous and formidable magic still existing in this world."

Kolmando delivered a staggering response: "Though I haven't examined all the schematics, I dare assert that this is undoubtedly a magic of immense, perhaps even bordering on ninth-level, prowess!"

Internally, Yann sneered at this revelation. In the realm of the undead, Death Touch was a widely circulated magic among elites, akin to Fireball in the human world. Moreover, Death Touch was thoroughly disdained in the undead realm; it was utterly redundant—why would you touch death in a realm of the dead!

Engrossed in his recent reading, Kolmando had thrown himself wholeheartedly into it, realizing the preciousness of the parchments in his hands. Whereas conventional magic relied on mages as conduits to manipulate surrounding magical elements for attack, this unnamed Death magic directly targeted the enemy's body for destruction within.

Such an assault closely resembled the legendary Bloodline magic, long thought extinct!

"May I inquire if the parchments in your possession have any connection to the legendary Bloodline magic?" Kolmando respectfully queried, his curiosity piqued to an unprecedented degree upon witnessing what appeared to be a high resemblance to Bloodline magic.

"That is indeed Bloodline magic," Yann affirmed definitively.

"Ah..." Kolmando drew a sharp breath, taken aback by the realization that this magic, presumed lost to the annals of time, had somehow resurfaced in his hands.

As a subset of dark magic, Bloodline magic had been eradicated centuries ago by the powerful influence of the Papal authority, coupled with its infamy as the epitome of evil in popular perception. Hence, the once-prominent Bloodline magic had been entirely obliterated, with only records in ancient tomes detailing its horrifying nature remaining.

Legend held that Bloodline magic could instantaneously turn an entire city's populace into bloodless corpses at the moment of activation, siphoning their life force to empower the caster!

Many had attempted to reconstruct Bloodline magic based on the descriptions in ancient texts, yet none had succeeded.

"Charlie!" Kolmando gestured grandly to the auction house manager. "Revise the lineup for this auction; Death Touch shall be the highlight! Issue widespread invitations to the major families, informing them that this auction will be a grand event!"

Having barely glanced at Death Touch, Kolmando was already brimming with enthusiasm. Although he harbored a strong desire to acquire the complete Death Touch, as a fire-element mage, its utility to him would be limited, even if obtained.

Though the notion of resorting to violence for personal gain crossed his mind, the realization that the other party could bring forth even the long-lost Bloodline magic for sale persuaded him otherwise.

The individuals seated opposite them could very well be extraordinary masters hailing from some unknown place!
