Chapter 1 - 01. How I ended up in jail

I zoomed past down the dessert road, in a swift black escalade.

It was way past 10pm and the half moon was out. There was barely a star visible in the sky. Tonight was the skyline was thick and cloudy. Why wouldn't it be?

After all I was escaping from an on coming dark storm.

My mission was to get to the Mexican border. I'd be safe past the border, since I knew it wasn't The Verrono's territory they could venture too.

Who are the Verronos?

A family worth billions.

I was taken in by them three months ago, when my mother Anjana died in a horrible car accident off a bridge.

My mother and her best friend Bella Verrono, were the only ones that knew about my secret powers.

Powers?

I'm not strictly speaking human.

Well actually, I consider myself half mortal.

I hail from a long line of half angels from my father's and my mother's side.

Where was my father? Well, he left the picture when I was born.

I actually got my powers from my mother. My mother hailed from a scarce race called the Apsaras, she helped me control my powers when they kicked it at the age of eight.Β

After mother departed the world. Bella Verrono took me in. It was one of the many reasons she'd taken me in, plus the fact she promised my mother she would look out for me.

In all honesty, I didn't mind aunt Bella taking me in. She'd always been kind and welcoming towards me. Besides her swan-like children Bella was the only one whom I considered close as a family member, when Mom was no more.

All this time, I always thought Bella was a human. She never gave me any strange vibes unlike her devilish handsome children.

What Bella failed to mention was the fact that, she hailed from a supernatural, deadly family herself.

I'd come a long way to escape from them, and I wasn't stopping now.

I gassed the pedal to the floor, roaring my engine down the open dessert road.

Suddenly, a cop car came from behind the huge Vegas ad board, with it's blue sirens on.

Crap!!!

This couldn't be good. Especially when I didn't have my licence. Plus, I stole this car.

What?!

Hey, I'm on the run from the bad guys, so give me a break! It's not like I got a gun on me or anything.Β

I stole this car due to my dire circumstances.

You see, I just witnessed a murder, back at the Verrono estate.

Reader: Oh my god?! What happened? How did you witness it? Did someone see you? Did you hide? Hurry up! Get on with the story, you're stressing me out!!!Β

Kiana: I'm getting there!Β

I swiftly pulled over to the side, and calmed the nerv wrecking beating of my heart. I'd never broken the law in my life. I was one of the good girls that always did her homework on time, and stayed out of trouble at school as well as work. I was a very diligent, trustworthy, punctual as well as a neat and tidy person.

But if someone saw me.

I was close to being a train wreck. To say that I'd been low key traumatised by what I'd seen was an understatement.

Keep it together!

I mentally scolded myself, and quickly swatted my loose hair neatly, tucking it behind my ear. I inhaled and exhaled deeply as if doing a yoga breathing move.

The cop car then pulled over, behind mine.

A male cop came out of the car, wearing a dark uniform.

He approached my window and I sighed, pulling it down, when he knocked on it.

"Evening, young lady." He greeted with a strict pokerface.

His eyes travelled briefly gazing inside the fine black leather seated car.

"What seems to be the problem, officer?" I replied in a casual tone.Β

Looking at him closely, he kind of reminded me of a young Keanu Reeves from the movie Speed.

"May I see your licence please?"

He asked in his strict tone of voice, as he discreetly looked at what I was wearing.

Nothing screamed Gucci or Prada about me. I was just a regular eighteen-year-old high school student who worked part time at a pizzeria called Reggie's.

I had a black vest top, followed by my brown hoody, skinny jeans and white running shoes. I wore a light brown hat over my head, which matched my light brown eyes and hair.

"I'm sorry I don't have it." The 5ft4 me boldly said.

"Oh, why is that?"

"I lost it." I lied straight through my teeth, which made him almost scoff.

"Well. That's a shame. Please step out of the vehicle." He asked in his polite yet authoritative tone of voice. Officer 'Keanu' looked well built and he looked like the kind of guy who could beat you in a Judo match.

I braced myself, and carefully got out of the vehicle, with my heart on edge.

Here goes nothing.

"Turn around and place your hands on the roof of the car nice and slowly, and tell me why you're driving a stolen car?"

I let out a heavy sigh, not turning around, so he could do his search.

I can't believe what I'm about to do.

"Because I felt like it." I spoke in a cocky way.

"Turn around kid, I'm not going to ask again."

"Well, good."

Then I suddenly sucker punched him so fast and turned on my heel and ran.

A sudden wire from the back and glued on to me like a vice. I felt waves of electricity shooting me down to a dead stop.

I groaned out, feeling all my whole body spazz out on the ground. Feeling like buzzing bees crawling through my skin, at a painful rate. I was stunned.

Officer 'Keanu' just tased me!

My eyes drooped low and sudden black curtains sheilded my eyes as I remained on the dark gravelled road perfectly still. I felt paralysed and weak, as my whole body soon relaxed, feeling heavy.

His partner came out of the car and quickly did a search of the car.

I could hear him opening the back of the booth and rummaging through it.

"Oh, she's carrying drugs." I heard him say.

Oops.

This stolen car was more bad news than I thought. Had I known it was carrying the drugs I wouldn't have broke into the car and stole it in the first place!

I felt my body then lift from the ground, like I was paperweight.

"Another mule, Scott?" His partner in the background automatically assumed. If I had the energy to fl!p him off, I would but right now my whole body felt like jelly.

No, I'm not drug mule!

I wished to protest and thrash

"I'm taking her back to the precinct. You take the car back."

.

.

.

When I came, too.

Officer 'Keanu' had me in cuffs. I sat in front of his chair, when I came through, and sighed at my circumstances.Β

"Welcome back, Miss Kiana Malhotra." The one named Scott, gave me a short smile. A smile that said, 'ha ha you can't run from the law kid.' Even so, I fired him a puzzled look.

"How do you know my name officer?" I asked when I knew I hadn't given it to him, nor could I possibly be on the system since this was my first time in police station.

"My name is Officer Scott Stackhouse, and I found your passport, in your duffle bag. Along with your employee card, at Reggie's Pizzeria, which is located all the way out in sleepy Seattle." He said, sliding the employee card Infront of me.Β

"So, whose the drug dealer you work for?" He asked.

"Wait a minute. I'm not a drug dealer!" I snapped in a defensive tone.

Scott darted his eyes on his paperwork releasing a short sigh and then started signing some documents.Β

"Says the girl who was packing twenty tons of it in the car." chimed his partner who came through his office door.

"It's not mine I swear!"

I was not a junkie and I never did the 'banga' in my life.

"And how can you prove this?"

Scott asked as his friend took in a rough looking man in cuffs down the hallway outside.

I fell silent, contemplating the thought of asking for a lawyer.

Wait, who was I kidding.

No lawyer could dare go up against the people I ran from.

"Miss Malhotra your silence will only get you into more trouble with the law. Now how can you prove that the amount of cocaine that was found in the back of the trunk isn't yours?"

He asked looking at me whilst stacking his paperwork neatly to the side.

Well, I'm already in trouble as it is, might as well spill half the truth.

"Because I stole that car when the men went inside the casino." I admitted in all honesty.

Scott leaned back in his chair, analysing me under his hard gaze. A gaze that seemed to make me uncomfortable meeting his eyes for a while.

My gaze landed on to my lap and a bracelet which I wore. I held the charm in my hand trying to relax my anxious nerve wrecking heartbeats.

Suddenly I missed two people in my life. Two people who unfortunately turned out to be the bad guys, whom I was running from.

"Scott, will you take her pictures and put her in the lock up. You got paperwork to sign off." Said his bald-headed superior, who came by the door.

"On it, boss." Scott said looking at me in his still suspicious gaze.

It was a no brainer that this guy didn't believe me.

He stood up and then came around my seat.

"Ok, Kiana let's go."

I reluctantly ended up taking my mug shot.

Officer Scott then led me down the jail block cellers, where I got a couple of wolf whistles from the local sneering male prisoners.

Luckily, only a few were in tonight and I didn't end up getting placed inside with any of bad looking criminals.

"Hey, knock it off!" Said one of the guards who walked down theΒ aisle, whilst Officer Scott escorted me.

"What you in for cutey?" One of the prisoners made kissy noises at me, which I ignored.

"She stole a car and punched me in the face." Scott said opening my cell block. He uncuffed my hands. Then walked out of the door and locked it with his key, swiftly.

"Oooh, you bad girl." said a very deranged looking guy with green neon hair. He smiled excited looking at me like like I was a brand piece of entertainment for him. He teased me with a wink from the cell block opposite of me.

Urgh, this is the worst night of my life!

Then again. It can't be too bad. I might be in a safe place.

"Hey, I'm not done talking to you." Scott reminded, before he retreated back out the main lock door of the detention holding area. I sighed out heavily sat down at the bottom bunk of a bed.Β

Even if he came back.

How could I possibly tell him the truth?!

He'd never believe me.

I scanned my surroundings. This cell block was dark and dim lit and it literally smelt like bad news, of drugs, cigarettes and piss.

Urgh, I can't even look at the un-lid loo right now.

"So what's your name pretty?" Light green hair with pale blue eyes was trying to get my attention. He was dressed in a punk rock shirt, with faded blue jeans.

I ignored his lusty stare at me.Β

"Aww c'mon pretty don't ignore Ricky, here."

"If Ricky doesn't shutup, Gunner will." Said the other in-mate he was sharing the cell block with.

Ricky then turned towards the one named Gunner, who stood with his leg up behind a wall. Ricky walked towards him in a very hostile, intimidating way, secretly scaring the $hit out of me.

"What did you say, old man? You trying to eye what's mine" Ricky threatened darkly.

A chill ran down my spine when I remembered a certain someone pinning me as his.Β

Gunner then bashed his face up against the wall, causing me to gasp out and come out of my worried thoughts. Ricky groaned out in more pain when Gunner the thirty something year-old man then knocked him out cold with a hard back slap.

Ricky fell limp on the floor.

"I-Is he dead?" I asked, getting dangerous Gunners attention.

"No. He's just sleeping." Gunner then hauled Ricky's body from the floor and plopped him up the top bunk.

The guy tough looking con then returned his curious gaze at me.

"So what are you really in here for, kid?"

"What are you in here for?" I asked finding my brave yet curious voice again. Gunner held his serious face as he looked towards me. He had deep dark blonde hair, and hazel eyes. He wore a black leather jacket, with a polo black shirt and dark brown pants with black boots. He obviously looked like the kind of guy who could handle himself at 6ft2.

"A bank robbery gone bad. Ricky here took his time getting the safe girl to crack the code, when the cops came in on us."

"That sucks, Money Heist."

Gunner chuckled.

"So, kid it's your turn. What you're really in for?"

I didn't wish to talk about it but since Gunner politely told me why he was here, I couldn't see why I couldn't tell him half the truth.

"If you must know, I stole the wrong car, which had drugs in it."

He chuckled softly finding that amusing.

"Plus you punched a cop." He reminded, making me nod.

Placed my hands upon my face going into deep thought. I walked back and fourth contemplating what was going to happen? What if these guys turned out to be dirty cops too?

Wondering, what the heck was going to happen to me? How could I get out of jail. Wait, did I want to get out right away, when they were no doubt trying to look for me.

"Hmmm, but there's more to it than just that."

Gunner said as he observed me through his cell, like some kind of psychiatrist, analysing me. I tried to ignore him and not gaze his way.

"You're a run away aren't you?" He narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

Damn, money heist was good.

I sat back on the bed and sighed. Gunner was rather sharp.

"Please, don't talk to me." I said wishing he'd just leave me and my thoughts be.

"Don't mind me kid. But, if were you, I'd tell Scott the truth. He can help you, if you're in trouble."

With the people who were chasing after me, I highly doubted that.

An hour later Officer Scott came back.

This time he pulled out a folding chair towards my cell block and hollered at me.

"Miss Malhotra. I hope you're not sleeping. My team have analysed the drugs found in the car. Your fingerprints aren't on any of them."

"So, you're letting me go?" I asked sitting up and looking at him in a hopeful tone.

Scott let out a short huff and smirked shortly in an amused kind of way.

"No, you've stolen a car, and I'm here to find out why. But before that. I've brought your phone. You're allowed one phone call."

I went towards the bar and took the phone from his hand.

I stared at the screen and I cursed out lightly underneath my breath.

I had no one to call. Not even my close friend Sam from back home. They'd probably stalk her too and find out if I was there. No, I couldn't let her get involved with the f^cking dangerous fire flies.

"Don't you want to call anyone, Miss Malhotra?" Officer Scott asked.

"It's just Kiana, and no. I don't want to call anyone."

I handed him back the phone, knowing I'd made a back-up copy of a very important video in there. Even if my phone got taken away or destroyed, it didn't matter.

"Then tell me, why did you steal a drug cartel's car?"

Well, since this is going to be long night, and knowing Officer Scott was on my case. I looked at Gunner, who simply nodded his head, letting me know, it was ok to tell the patient looking officer the truth.

Scott looked like the guy who genuinely wanted to listen and help me.

"I'm on the run from someone very dangerous. I didn't mean to steal the car officer, but they were after me. I had no choice."

I paced back and fourth, anxiously.

"If they come looking for me, I'm good as dead." My eyes brimmed with tears.

Scott looked at me with all his attention, including Gunner from the opposite side.

"That's why you punched my face, so I'd take you in?"

"Yes, and I'm sorry about that. I thought this would be the perfect place to hide for a while." I said with my slipped down with tears.

"Hey, kid don't cry. It's going to be ok."

"No, it's not Mr Gunner. These guys are bad news." I said trying to wipe away my tears.

"Calm down Kiana. Whose is coming after you?" Scott asked.Β

"Henry Verrono. The one whom I saw murder a person out in his barn."

A little bit more about the book...

Dear Dragon readers, thank you for selecting my book The Dragons Claim.

First of all this is my first Dragon Book .

The only Dragons I know far in the book world are Fairy Tail Natsu oh and another cute Manhwa I read which is extremely funny is Dragon Who. Oh my favourite dragon is Mushu from Mulan. We can't forget about Dragon Ball Z either; also we can't forget about GOT or House of Dragons. Those dragons were lit though.

What can you expect from my Dragon World?

Well, It's definitely nothing like GOT Dragons or House of Dragons. Nor is it like Fairy Tail or Dragon Who or any other dragons I mentioned previously.

Set in the modern age.

My dragons are billionaires. Actually they are low key mafia dragons that hail from Hell. They have a mission on Earth and once again you will find out about that as the story goes on. Watch out though, they will burn you if you cross them the wrong way. Since they're lit AF get it?Β Because they're dragons?Β

Reader: Shut up with your lame puns, we get it!

Rain: Great. [coughs] Moving on...

The Dragons in my world can live up to 2000 years old so when you find out about their true age, please don't freak out and go like, urgh he so old! Blehh...Yes my dragons are old AF but they look young and youthful since they age at an extremely low pace.

We have Alpha dragons and they will have ranks which will be explained later on as the book series progresses. I can't reveal everything at one go, because where's the fun in that?

The main Alpha Dragon is going to be weak until he gets 'fixed' I like my characters to have flaws so they won't be always macho men perfect. No they will be sly, crooked and villainous and do anything to get what they want.

Their powers will obviously include fire power, mind wiping memory power and the power of invisibility, of course not all dragons in this book will have every single power. They will have mind linking powers so they can communicate with other dragons and they'll also have...Β

Mates.

Yes, we have fated mates in this book, however mates will not work out like cliches for example...

They see each other and they know exactly who they are, or they say or shout MINE! Give chase and pounce of them like crazy then wish wish to 'bang' on the first point of contact. No. I'm sorry, the tingles and sparks will take time, and only one of them will feel it.

The ML. You will love him and hate him. At first he will not be possessive about the FL but that will change once she does something to him. He will go after her and seduce her in paranormal ways, this is after he takes an extremely great liking to her.

There will be rules in claiming one another as mates, but that will be explained later on as the story progresses.Β

The female protagonist is not a she dragon. She is something else entirely and will most likely to annoy you since she's weak AF and will be accident prone at times. Having said that there will be a lot of KYAAAAAA and AHHHHHS coming out from her, since i'm trying to stick with the horror and thriller genre as well as the paranormal genre of the story. So, please bare with me. Plus, we all love character development and she just like the rest of my sizzling lit characters will go through the same process.

Get it sizzling?Β

No?

What about lit characters?

Ohh, smoking hot characters? Yeah? No, too much, pun.

Readers: [Throws popcorn] Boo! Stop with your lame puns and get on with the story!Β

Rain: Ok! Time for some πŸ”₯get it because my name is Rain? And...Nevermind. I promise that was my last pun.

This will be a love triangle. A little love rivalry burned no one. Get it? Because they're dragons? Oops I did it again.

Readers: Shutup Britney!

Rain: Hey! It's Britney b!che.Β

I'm sorry, on a serious note if you want a book with only fated mates then please give The Wolves of Montero Valley a read.

🚨This is a Mature read.🚨

Yes, there will be a lot of 'banging' going on but i'll give my young readers a warning like so🚨🚨🚨

It's also actioned packed with gory bloody scenes.

Feedback is more than welcome. So please, do not be shy and hold back on your comments.Β

Remember this story is nothing without your votes and comments.Β
