Chapter 4 - The Great War In Dialogues

"300 years ago, there ruled a king. He was a terrifying one. He was maybe the mightiest out of any other king that roamed this world. This was not just because of the power his military held, it is also because of all his philosophies and his mindset that brought him to this place. He was popular by the name of 'The Demon King' not just because of the former but also because of the fact that he manifested the Devils to Demons..."

"What do you mean when you say 'Demon' and 'Devil'?" asked Achromo, who was now fully immersed in the topic, listening to every word with a keen ear.

"You don't know that?" replied his father with a questioning expression, "With all the books you have read I thought you would know. Well, there aren't many records of them present. They are Contractors."

"Contractors?"

"Yes. Merciless, cynical, and mostly dangerous contractors."

"What does that mean?"

"They are otherworldly beings. They do not belong to this world and are thus prohibited to enter this world. They have a different dimension that they reside in. Whatever they may be, they are especially dangerous because of their nature and behavior."

"How's that?" he asked without much thought to it, he had remembered reading this somewhere tough he had a vague memory about it.

"They can't come out of their world, but they still can interact with the other world. Mainly, the soul of a being. They have a terrifying amount of power within them. They are basically a power source for some. Thar is why, they end to make contracts with the beings of our world. They give people power, in exchange of something else they desire. This is mainly a way to stay within this world, they reside within the individual that formed the contract themselves."

"What did you mean by the other one then?"

"Ah, Demons." Rey got up of his chair he was sitting on, and fetched a glass of water for himself. The face was seen in a type of emotion that hinted fear within him. And then he continued and the same emotion could be seen on the face of Achromo after what he said.

"They are the devils that could come to this world. They are the devil souls that manifested into the human world and then caused terror. There were only some of them, and that makes it even more frightening seeing the amount of chaos they caused. They were merciless. Towns were burned down towns, they raided kingdoms, they destroyed the cities, and hoisted their flag into the the boundless sky."

Achromo felt a chill go down his spine. This destruction was enhanced by a terrifying imagination that was wielded by Achromo and by the fact that he was only 10.

"This made his army, along with many other humans who took his side. They all were executed after the war. It's not like there were much of them remaining after the war. Most of them were already eliminated by the armies."

"Armies? Just how many nations were involved in this war?" he questioned considering all the four nations that existed.

"All four of the nations." came the reply almost instantly. Achromo was shocked by this to a great extinct.

"What!" he exclaimed in a shock, "Then what nation did he rule?"

"Isn't it obvious now?" he addressed Achromo in a mocking way. Achromo looked like he knew the answer to this. "The Region of Regiae. The fifth nation that is ruled by all the four royals. It is the place that holds the Court Of The Almighty. It still holds the castle that he reigned in, which is now used as the Court. It is an enormous castle that raises up to the sky."

"You talk like you have witnessed it."

"That I am yet to.", he took a pause.

"So." he started with more questions in his mind, "What exactly was the name of this King?"

He smiled acknowledging the question. It was a confident smile that made Achromo feel disturbed in a way. It hinted a answer that he was not expecting and that was sensed by him.

"He did not have one." he finally replied. Achromo had a face that had the same amount of surprise that anyone else would have wielded. "That is not for sure. It is just that no one knows his name. But we take him to be nameless."

"What a great sorrow it must have been," he acknowledged, "to be buried without an identity, to not even have a name that you could be known for. What a misfortune i must have been.  What would his tombstone say?"

"For that he must be buried." he replied, "His body was not left. His body was completely destroyed, at least that's what the records say."

"Who takes the credit for it?" A question followed.

"The 12 Knights." he replied while spreading his arms symbolizing glory.

"The 12 Knights, huh?"

"I believe you heard of them."

"Yes," he replied with a eye that shone, "They are the highest order of military that conduct among all the four regions."

"That is correct." Rey snapped his fingers, "When I say 12 Knights tough, it refers to the first generations of them. It is about the one's who began this. That means the pioneers of the Knights that we know today."

"What happened after this war? What to his empire and what about his mean?" he asked.

"As I said," he started, "Not many of his men remained, and those who did were executed immediately at the kings order. As for his empire, it was the fifth region and thus for no one to take it; all the four empires signed a treaty to rule on the empire accordingly. His fortune was not of much worth either, at least no the one he had stolen. The wealth of his was spent into the progress of the region of Regiae. Except all his most fortune..."

He took an unusual pause. It was driven by a disturbing silence that drove Achromo uneasy at a bit. The evening winds were starting to blow and the sun had started heading west. Then with a harsh voice, which seemed like needles thrusted his throat while he spoke, he continued his story,

"The 12 Gemstones Of Heaven. He was the only man ever to collect them all from across the world; and the was the only one that had a throne decorated with them."

"Who inherited these gemstones then?" Achromo asked curiously.

"The 12 Knights got to keep them as a reward for their bravery and achievements, for their sacrifices that they made and what people they were. Even tough I have only heard tales, I can tell their greatness."

"What do you reckon that these gemstones are?"

"I know what they are." he said quite proudly, "They are the purest of any other precocious gems and metals that have existed. They are made by the strongest of wizards and the best of mages and warriors; that too at a time of which we have no records of. At a time of which no history exist, only tales passed trough generations."

They shared a moment of silence that lasted for a long while. Achromo did not seem to have any more questions that remained and thus he stood silent, for he was still comprehending the information that he had heard. It was a tale, that could be rose with more questions if Achromo thought about it, he wished to but decided to remain silent as he was.

"You seem to have more knowledge than I thought." Achromo broke the silence to drive the attention of his distracted father.

"What did you think?" he replied almost mockingly, "The books you read- do you think I keep them in my library just for the sake of it? And what is more than that is you should remember that I am your father, Achromo O' Yiostheou."

Achromo did not give any reply but a smile.

The King that he heard the tale of seemed a fearsome character to him. He was not exactly aware of what it was, but he still thought that he did not understand this man fully. There was still something missing to that story and this was terrible to think of for him.

There was also a smaller doubt to the mind that had a deep thought on Achromo's mind. It was one about his father, the way he dictated the tale specifically. The way was too good to him and that had drove a new light from the mind of him to his father. It was not something that he spend too much of his time in.

"Dinner's ready." A yell came from the kitchen with the voice of his mother.

"I'm coming." he replied.
