"Why not? Or do you have any other solution in your mind?", the King turned to face her, a frown still implanted on his forehead.
"Your Majesty, killing the girl is not the adequate thing to do. If ever revealed, it will daint your reputation", the Queen spoke in heavy breaths, "I think it will be best to send her far off somewhere and make sure she never returns to the palace, nor remembers her identity", she continued.
The King still stared into the space.
"And...we can probably adopt a newborn son and tell the kingdom that a prince has been born.", she finished, now waiting for an answer.
"Seems quite adequate, of course, you need to find the solution to the mistake you committed.", the King shot her a fierce look.
The Queen, laying weak on the bed gulped.
"Your Majesty...I have a request. May Your Majesty, please grant it.", the Queen almost said in almost a whisper.
The King nodded is head, motioning that he was listening.
"Nanny May, has been working for us for so many years. She has served Your Majesty and me at all times and has remained loyal", the Queen struggled to speak.
"She has been deprived of the blessing of children and will find it great to have a daughter. Your Majesty, why not we give the girl to her?", she Queen continued.
The King looked at her, his eyes fixed into hers for a while and then called out to the servant standing outside.
A young man, thin and frail, dressed in the servant robes came in.
"Yes, Your Majesty.", he asked, bowing.
"Tell Nanny May that the King summons her.", the King said still looking at his wife, laying weak in bed.
After a while, a lady in her thirties stepped in, dressed in white robes, the baby still cradled in her arms.
"Your Majesty summoned me.", she bowed.
"May...", the Queen called her.
The nanny strode over to sit by the Queen's side and attempted to lift the baby's coverings to show to the Queen, but the Queen stopped her from doing so, knowing there was no use in looking at someone she would not be able to see ever again.
"May, after all these years of your friendship and serving, would you do me a favor?", she asked after some while, holding her hand.
The King cleared his throat.
"You have been serving us with loyalty for the past thirteen years.", the King began.
"I'm ever obliged to do so.", the nanny replied.
"It is time you're paid back.", the King said.
"Paid back? Your Majesty, being able to work for you is already enough of a reward for me.", she smiled slightly.
"Me and the Queen wish for you to take this child and leave for Mozhao village.", the King said looking away.
"I beg your pardon, Your Majesty?", the nanny's face grew worried.
"The current need of the kingdom of Riverdale is a heir. Having a girl, will be no more than a shame to my name. Don't you agree?", he spoke in a stern voice.
"Your Majesty! But she is your daughter! The Royal blood runs through her. How can you possibly—", she was cut off.
"Is it not enough to convince you, that the King of Riverdale is giving the order!?", the King said in a furiously raised voice.
The nanny kept the baby on the Queen's bedside and quickly knelt to the ground.
"I BEG FOR YOUR MERCY, YOUR MAJESTY! PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR DECISION! If in the future someone or the girl herself finds out, Your Majesty shall be in grave trouble. Please reconsider this!", she said, tears trickling down her eyes.
"Take the girl and leave for Mozhao village tomorrow at dawn. If I ever see you or the girl in or even near the Royal Palace again, I will show you that when it comes to mercilessness, how merciless I can get!", he spoke, his voice clear, loud and furious and then strode outside the room.
The nanny turned to the Queen, who was looking at the girl covered in white clothes.
"Your Highness...why?", she asked, still teary-eyed.
"May...It was never my choice to be the Queen nor was it her choice to become a Princess, but it is what it is...", she said looking at the baby.
May became speechless and her mind went blank.
"Maybe...one day...when she is old enough...I will come to see her, I'll do so at least once before I die. After all I'm her mother...", the Queen's voice cracked at the end and tears rolled down her eyes.
She held the baby to her chest and kissed her forehead, admiring how she looked exactly like the Queen and then handed her to the nanny.
"May...I will always regret this...but I see no other way to save both of our lives, so please don't make it more harder for me than it already is", the Queen looked at the nanny.
May was still in tears.
"Liya...", the Queen sighed, "Please give her that name...I had always thought of this name...I thought if I ever had a daughter I would call her Liya...Liya as in beautiful and calmful...", more tears rolled down the Queen's eyes.
"Just make sure, she never feels unloved", the Queen said in between streams of unending tears.
May got up and hugged the Queen.
"I promise"
