Chapter 8 - Miracle

The next morning, I was awoken by a chorus of surprised shouts from the villagers. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I stumbled out of my shack to investigate, only to find the entire village gathered around the fields, their jaws dropped in amazement.

"What in the world?" I heard Seraphina exclaim, her voice tinged with disbelief.

The fields, once barren and lifeless, were now bursting with an abundance of crops. Tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots peeked out from the soil, while rows of corn and wheat swayed gently in the breeze.

The villagers marveled at the sight, their eyes wide with astonishment. Seraphina stood at the forefront, her expression a mix of shock and wonder.

"What... how...?" she stuttered, unable to form a coherent sentence.

I couldn't help but grin at their reactions, feeling a sense of pride swell within me. It seemed my magical intervention had yielded some unexpected results.

I blinked in disbelief as I witnessed the villagers' astonishment. Their shouts of surprise filled the air, mingling with the rustling of leaves in the morning breeze.

"Wow, would you look at this! It's like a miracle!" exclaimed one of the villagers.

"I can't believe it! We're going to have plenty to sell at the market!" chimed in another.

"Thank you, Gaia! You've truly blessed us today!" shouted a third, his voice filled with gratitude.

Amelia, the very same woman I had inadvertently caught in a compromising situation, now stood before the villagers, her enthusiasm contagious.

"Come on, everyone! Let's not waste this opportunity! We've got a bounty waiting for us out there!" she exclaimed, her voice ringing out with determination.

The villagers exchanged glances, their faces a mixture of surprise and admiration. It seemed even Amelia's presence was enough to stir them into action.

With a sheepish grin, I watched as they followed her lead, heading out to claim the fruits of their labor. It was a sight to behold, and despite the awkwardness of our first encounter, I couldn't help but feel a newfound respect for her.

I approached Seraphina, who stood amidst the bustling villagers, her expression a mix of bewilderment and gratitude.

"Chief, looks like we've got quite the harvest today," I remarked, trying to lighten the mood.

Seraphina's eyes widened in astonishment as she surveyed the flourishing fields.

"I... I don't understand. How did this happen?"

I chuckled nervously, scratching the back of my head.

"Well, let's just say someone lent us a hand. Or rather, a green thumb."

Tears welled up in Seraphina's eyes as she realized the magnitude of the miracle before her.

"I... I can't believe it. This is truly a blessing."

I nodded, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips. "Indeed, it is. But if anyone deserves the credit, it's Amelia. She's the one who planted the seeds of hope in everyone's hearts."

"Hm? What do you mean by that?" She asked.

As Seraphina's confusion lingered, her gaze shifted between Amelia and me, suspicion evident in her eyes. Sensing her doubt, I quickly formulated an excuse, my words tumbling out in a rush.

"Well, you see, Chief, I happened to stumble upon Amelia working tirelessly in the fields late last night," I began, my voice tinged with feigned confidence. "And, uh, you know how dedicated she is to our village. I guess her hard work paid off... miraculously."

"But still how did the crops grow so fast-"

"Ah, but let us not forget to give thanks to the almighty Gaia for this miraculous bounty!" I exclaimed, hoping to shift Seraphina's focus away from any lingering suspicions.

Seraphina blinked in surprise at my sudden outburst, her expression softening as she nodded in agreement.

"Yes, indeed. We must show our gratitude to the earth for providing us with such abundance."

And with that, the tension dissipated, replaced by a shared sense of awe and gratitude for the unexpected blessing bestowed upon our humble village.

"Alright."

With a gentle nudge from Seraphina, I found myself swept up in the momentum of the moment,

"Get back to work will you?"

smiling brightly as I nodded in agreement.

"Of course, Chief Seraphina," I replied cheerfully, eager to lend a hand.

As I joined the villagers in their efforts, I couldn't help but marvel at the camaraderie and sense of community that enveloped us.

As I approached the orchard, the old folks spotted me and greeted me with their usual teasing. "Hey there, pervert boy!" one of them called out, a mischievous glint in his eye.

"Mind giving us a hand"

I sighed inwardly at the nickname but couldn't help but grin. "Alright, alright, I'm coming," I replied, walking over to lend a hand.

They chuckled in response, their laughter echoing through the orchard.

As I lifted the first basket, I was surprised to find it as light as a feather. Curiosity piqued, I decided to conduct a little experiment. With each basket I effortlessly hoisted, the onlookers' eyes widened in disbelief.

I couldn't help but chuckle at their stunned expressions. "Looks like I've been hitting the gym without even knowing it!" I joked, flexing my muscles playfully.

The villagers laughed along with me, amazed at my seemingly superhuman strength. It was a moment of levity amidst the hard work of harvesting the bountiful fruits.

The old folks were taken aback by my strength, one of them even remarking,

"A pervert like you with that strength? Not bad!"

Another chimed in, boasting about their own youthful vigor, claiming they could effortlessly carry the same amount as me back in their prime.

"Back in my day," the elder exclaimed with a twinkle in his eye, "I could carry twice as much as you without breaking a sweat! Ah, those were the days."

I chuckled at the classic boasting of the elderly, finding their pride both amusing and endearing.

As I picked up some baskets, I overheard various conversations among the villagers. One exclaimed, "These fruits and crops will last us through the winter! We won't have to worry about food shortages." Another chimed in,

"And think about the price we'll get for these in the market! We'll be rolling in money!" Their excitement was palpable, and I couldn't help but smile at their enthusiasm.

As I helped with the baskets, I spotted Seraphina and Amelia engaged in conversation. Seraphina's face was lit up with joy, and Amelia wore a bright smile. I couldn't help but grin myself, knowing exactly what they were discussing.

The system chimed in,

{Would you like to hear the audio of their conversation?}

I shook my head, deciding to give them their privacy. As I glanced around, I couldn't spot a single frowning face. In that moment, I couldn't help but think, "This world would be a much happier place if the gods answered our prayers. No more pain, no more sadness." It was a fleeting thought, but one that lingered in my mind nonetheless.

As the sun dipped below the horizon and we finished storing the last batch of fruits, the elderly villagers expressed their gratitude to me.

The elderly villagers gathered around me, their voices filled with awe and gratitude.

"Thank you, young man." one of them said, shaking my hand firmly.

"Indeed!" another exclaimed, patting me on the back.

I chuckled modestly, feeling a sense of pride mixed with amusement at their reactions.

"It was nothing, really. Just lending a hand where it's needed,"

One of the elderly villagers, a wry grin on his face, remarked,

"Having a young man like you do all the heavy lifting sure has its perks! Reminds me of the good old days when my back didn't ache at the mere sight of a basket of fruits!"

The others chuckled in agreement, nodding sagely as they reminisced about their youthful vigor. I couldn't help but join in their laughter, glad to have brought some joy to their hearts.

With a resigned sigh, I watched as the elderly villagers excused themselves, leaving me alone to tidy up the supply shack. The shack was a chaotic mess, with crates of fruits and vegetables strewn about haphazardly, and the floor littered with fallen leaves and twigs.

I rolled up my sleeves, ready to tackle the daunting task ahead. First, I began by organizing the crates, stacking them neatly against the walls to create more space in the cramped shack. As I reached for a particularly precarious pile, a crate toppled over, spilling its contents onto the floor.

"Of course," I muttered to myself, shaking my head in exasperation. But I didn't let the mishap deter me. With a determined spirit, I set about gathering the spilled fruits and placing them back into their respective crates.

Next, I grabbed a broom and started sweeping the dirt and debris off the floor, humming a tune to keep my spirits up as I worked. As I swept, I couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of the situation – here I was, a former salaryman turned god, cleaning up a supply shack in a small village.

But despite the nature of the task, I found a sense of satisfaction in the simplicity of the work. There was something oddly satisfying about the rhythmic motion of sweeping, the feeling of accomplishment as the floor gradually became cleaner.

After what felt like an eternity of tidying up, I finally stood back to admire my handiwork. The supply shack was now clean and organized, a far cry from its earlier chaotic state. With a satisfied smile, I dusted off my hands and stepped out into the cool evening air, ready to enjoy a well-deserved rest.

As I stepped out of the supply shack, my {Radar Skill} alerted me to someone approaching from behind the backdoor. The system chimed in, offering me a detailed description of Amelia.

{Amelia}

{Description: Amelia is a young woman with a petite frame, her chestnut-colored hair cascading in gentle waves around her shoulders}

Curiosity piqued, I watched as Amelia appeared with a tray of sandwiches in hand, her expression a mix of annoyance and embarrassment.

"What are you doing here?" she muttered, her cheeks flushed with color as she thrust the tray toward me.

I blinked in surprise at her abruptness, but quickly recovered, offering her a smile. "Ah, Amelia-san, I didn't expect to see you here," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant.

"Yeah, well, don't get used to it," she retorted, averting her gaze.

I couldn't help but chuckle at her tsundere demeanor, finding it oddly endearing.

"Thanks for the sandwiches, anyway," I said, reaching out to take the tray from her.

She huffed, but didn't protest as I accepted the tray. "Don't think I did it for you or anything," she muttered, her cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red.

As I bit into one of the sandwiches, I couldn't help but smile at Amelia's tsundere antics. Despite her tough exterior, it was clear she had a kind heart beneath it all. And for that, I was grateful.

As I happily devoured the sandwiches, savoring each bite in blissful peace, Amelia broke the silence with a flustered tone.

"First of all," she began, her voice tinged with annoyance, "you're a total creep for stalking me last night."

I choked on a piece of bread, my eyes widening in confusion as I struggled to regain my composure. "Stalking you?" I sputtered, my voice coming out in a hoarse rasp.

Amelia rolled her eyes, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

"Yeah, you know, when you saw me planting the crops last night," she clarified, her words rushed and slightly jumbled.

Realization dawned on me, and I couldn't help but let out a nervous chuckle. "Oh, that,"

I replied, scratching the back of my head sheepishly.

"I wasn't stalking you, I just happened to see you while I was... um, observing the village."

Amelia narrowed her eyes skeptically, clearly not convinced by my explanation.

"Sure, sure," she muttered, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

I coughed awkwardly, feeling the weight of her suspicion bearing down on me. "Anyway, thanks for the sandwiches," I said quickly, hoping to change the subject.

She sighed, her flustered demeanor softening slightly.

"Yeah, whatever," she mumbled, turning to leave.

As I watched her go, I couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of the situation.

The system chimed, interrupting my thoughts and displaying a notification about Amelia's current mood. She appeared to be happy, her back turned against me as she walked away.

{it seems that Miss Amelia is in a cheerful mood}

the system announced cheerfully, its synthetic voice breaking the silence.

I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at the timing of the system's observation. "Thanks for the update," I replied dryly, my voice tinged with sarcasm.

The system remained unfazed by my tone.

{You're welcome, :)}

it chirped brightly before falling silent once more.

I shook my head, unable to suppress a small chuckle at the absurdity of relying on a digital assistant for insights into human emotions. Truly, life in Evergreen was full of unexpected twists and turns, even down to the smallest details.
