Even with their piercing gazes all on him, Reggie never made a move or showed he was frightened. He remained collected where he sat, much to the surprise of Kate who was expecting he would be fidgeted.
Reggie slowly took his gaze to the woman and smirked. "What are you? A demon exorcist? I don't need this right now and," he faced the others in tbe train. "Who ever is watching over this woman should please make her leave."
Kate shot a glare at him but he cared less and leaned back to his seat with his eyes closed. "That was rude?"
"Coming from someone who claims to be heartless. And beside, I am not a demon."
Saying that single word sparked something in him. He wasn't sure about it, but he had a memory lingering in his head for quite sometime of people calling him a demon for not having a talent.
They said he is a demon under a punishment and that was why the heavens never blessed him with gift. He hated that word and the woman reminding him about it, never did any good.
"I apologize for my mother. She is sick right now." A young girl held the woman's hand as she apologized to Reggie who remained muted.
After Kate gave her a peaceful nod, she took her mother away.
The rest of the journey went by with no one saying anything to each other and Reggie actually falling asleep and was only forced to wake up when the train came to a halt.
....
Kate pulled over in front of a big building which had a large logo at the top of the roof. Without being told, he knew he was at the PSA headquarters.
She turned off the car and looked at him. "I would be leaving so you are on your own now. You should do well and not miss this chance. Remember you want to meet Hugo right? It is your choice to do whatever you want."
He nodded. Maybe doing something good for once in his life, would help him. He cringed at the word good. He was never a good person and doesn't intend to be one.
Coming out of the car, he was welcomed by the cool breeze of the night, hitting his face which was exposed. Her had a leather jacket on, covering his black t-shirt and black jean trouser. He was just on a black theme that night and his gloves and boot weren't left out.
Kate drove off immediately, leaving him to face the upcoming moment of truth. He had practiced to use the weapon which he tied a band around to make it a bracelet and it was hidden by his jacket.
Taking a deep breath, he moved further, heading for the entrance which was made of transparent glass and the inside could be seen.
He went in and was met with a busy ground floor. Many young people were gathered and he could smell the different talents swirling around in the air and it was getting so strong.
That was one thing he got after he brought out that demon that sucked in the energy of Mr. Donald. He had gotten a rare gift of being able to smell talents and energies and instantly know what level a person is in.
That wasn't a talent someone is meant to have. It must have being from the impact of that demon that came out of him years ago.
He walked in, looking at everyone who he was sure were there for the exams. He found a spot among the group of young people, some frightened and some, confident, seated in the waiting room.
He went to join them, close to a young man with a spiky brown hair, who was looking obviously frightened. But not until Reggie caught a whiff of his energy. He wasn't someone of a low level but had reached the C-level. An alpha. Why was he acting all scared?
Reggie shook his head and never allowed it to bother him. He needed to focus as he was there for an examination.
A lady walked out with a smile and called in a certain amount of people into the room and surprisingly, Reggie was among them.
He went in with her along with the other nine and were each taken to different rooms. He was given a room along with another young man who seemed confident.
"Welcome to room Z469. I am your instructor, Ranger Cassie." A voice spoke through the megaphone stationed up above.
They were in a room that seemed like a chest board, having the white and black squared tiles and the wall was no different.
"You each have a book before you which has ten questions. You have just thirty minutes to get out of there or you disappear with the room."
Reggie drew his brows together, not expecting it to be a suicide mission.
The voice went on, "With each question you get correctly, the white tiles will glow and for each you fail, the black would glow. If you have more whites glowing then black, you will be ushered to the next exam but if you have the black more, you will be sent out with immediate effect." She instructed as if reading a manual book to them.
Well for knowledge, Reggie doesn't think he would be that good cause he never paid any attention to class so much, but, he could pull six whites off and four blacks. That would be the best he can do.
He sat down on the bare floor and began to go through it. The other young man on the other hand, was already working his way to victory.
"You seem like an intelligent guy. I am Rick, what's your name?" He spoke for the first time.
"Reggie." He answered back and the rest of the twenty minutes went by silently with no one saying anything to each other.
From what he could get, Rick was on a F-level, a Delta. Probably, that gave him his confident.
They went on and on until the alarmed beeped, giving the room a red color and the number of whites and blacks that they got, came glowing in their faces.
'Oh shit, this is not good. Seems I am disappointing Kate for the first time,' Reggie thought with disappointment coloring his face.
