Chereads / 000 - What Makes The Sky Blue / Chapter 50 - 45. Spirit Maiden Ferry

Chapter 50 - 45. Spirit Maiden Ferry

After Lyria accepted the fact that they were all ghosts and not humans, we finally started asking them what had happened on the island.

The people here happily told us that hundreds of years ago, a Primal beast suddenly appeared on their island, bringing with it a thick fog that now enveloped the island.

After the fog appeared, no creature could die on the island. Even if someone tried to commit suicide, their wounds would heal instantly and they would fail to die.

"But, you know, being a zombie or a ghost isn't all that bad. We're all making the most of it!" the female villager told us.

"What an incredible outlook you have! If only everyone could be inspired to live on the bright side!" Katalina looked at them with a blank expression.

But as they were talking to the other people here, I was staring in a certain direction, specifically towards a mansion on top of a hill...

I could feel something watching us and a voice calling out to me...

"Rei? What are you looking at?" I heard Djeeta ask me.

I then turned to Djeeta and answered, "I feel like someone is calling out to me... do you see that mansion on top of the hill?" I pointed in the direction of the hill I had seen before.

Djeeta then looked in the direction I pointed, but strangely she had a confused expression. "Mansion? What do you mean, Rei? I don't see anything except the hill covered in fog."

"What!?" I looked back at the hill and could clearly see the mansion...

"It's right there, Djeeta, the mansion." I pointed at the mansion again.

But Djeeta still couldn't see anything in the direction I was pointing... that's so weird, what happened?

"I still don't see anything..." Djeeta said to me.

Huh... this is really strange, so there is only one way to confirm if what I saw is real or not...

"I'll be right back, Djeeta," I told Djeeta and ran towards the hill.

"Rei!?" the last thing I heard from Djeeta.

I continued to run without any problems and approached the mansion on the hill. Even though the area was covered in fog, strangely the path I took to approach the mansion is not obstructed by fog at all. So I was able to approach the mansion easily. Not long I finally stopped in front of the mansion. The mansion appeared very old, but there was no damage at all, making me think that this mansion couldn't possibly be hundreds of years old.

Soon the door of the mansion began to open on its own, as if inviting me to enter the mansion.

Not gonna lie, but that's kinda creepy... I hope Lucilius has some ability to deal with ghosts...

I slowly started walking into the mansion and could feel the atmosphere getting colder as I stepped inside. The door behind me closed tightly. I decided to ignore the closed door and continued walking until I was in the middle of the room. In front of me, there were stairs leading to the second floor and many valuable and unique objects around me.

I had never seen so many objects like that in this room... perhaps they were quite famous hundreds of years ago.

"Welcome, people from beyond the mist," I heard a girl's voice from atop the stairs.

Soon, the sound of footsteps could be heard and a long blue haired Erune girl with yellow eyes appeared on the stairs, accompanied by something resembling a blue wolf and rabbit that followed her and seemed to protect her.

"Ferry..." I immediately recognized the girl.

"Ferry...? Are you calling me? Strange, I feel like I know that name..." Ferry muttered as she heard me call her name.

Ah, yes, I remember now. Ferry still didn't remember her original name and didn't have a name at this moment, and if I'm not mistaken Drang is her great-nephew...

"Sorry, seeing you reminded me of someone named Ferry, so I accidentally called you that," I told her.

But Ferry didn't listen to me at all and had been muttering to herself this whole time, "Ferry... It's not bad! I feel like I've been reborn!"

She then looked at me with eyes gleaming as if she was pleased with her name. "Welcome once again to my mansion," Ferry greeted me.

...Well, I'm just going to ignore her expression right now. "So, you're the one who called me here?"

Ferry continued walking until she descended from the stairs leading to the second floor of the mansion and stood in front of me. "You're right... I can sense that you're not an ordinary human. What I feel from you is that you're a creature very different from other races."

Huh, I never knew Ferry could sense something like that. Is it because she's a ghost?

But even though I was thinking about that, In the outside I'm still looking at Ferry with stare full of suspicious. I knew Ferry wasn't a bad person, but since this was our first meeting, I had to pretend to be suspicious of her.

Seeing me staring at her suspiciously Ferry finally said to me, "I don't mean any harm to you and your friends... I just need your help," Ferry said to me anxiously.

"Ask for my help?"

Ferry nodded as she heard me speak. "I want to ask for help to driving out the Primal Beast from this island."

After that, Ferry told me what had happened to her and the island. It all started when a sudden outbreak of disease hit the island, killing many people, including Ferry's parents and the servants who worked at her mansion. Fortunately, Ferry's younger sister had already left the island to find a cure for her illness, so she wasn't affected by the sudden disease on the island. However, Ferry wasn't as fortunate as her sister. When she was on the brink of death, she made a request to be called by her name one last time by her parents.

But suddenly, Ferry woke up to find the island covered in thick fog and a Primal Beast in the form of an airship floating in the air. Those who hadn't died from the disease suddenly became healthy again and couldn't die at all, even though decades had passed. They no longer needed to carry out their daily activities.

Feeling guilty for summoning the Primal Beast, Ferry decided to stay in her mansion without leaving for decades, afraid that the villagers would blame her for their inability to die and essentially becoming zombies now.

"And no one has landed on this island since the fog appeared... so you are my only hope to drive out this Primal Beast and fix everything," Ferry finished her story while wiping away her tears.

Sharing this story to me made her remember what she had felt during those decades... Alone in her mansion without anyone by her side.

I truly felt bad as I looked at Ferry's expression and the two creatures beside her who seemed to want to comfort Ferry.

"It's okay... I will help you." I raised my hand and gently patting her head.

Ferry looked surprised when I did that, then slowly raised both her hands to touch my hand that was stroking her head. "It's been so long... since I felt this," she said with a smile.

Seeing their master happy, the two creatures beside Ferry began to walk towards me, rubbing their bodies against my legs and body as if they thanking me.

After seeing that Ferry was no longer sad, I stopped Patting her head and pulled my hand back from above her head.

"Ahh..." Ferry looked disappointed when she couldn't feel the warmth on her head anymore. It had been a long time since she felt that from someone else.

"Don't forget about your initial goal. If you still want, I will stroke your head again after everything is done," I said to Ferry when I saw her disappointed expression.

After hearing that Ferry's expression immediately changed from sad to happy. "You better remember that!"

"Yes, yes, I won't forget, so what do you want to do now to defeat the Primal Beast? After all, we don't know where the Primal Beast is," I said to Ferry.

"Perhaps I should allow your friends to come to this mansion."

"What? What do you mean, Ferry?"

Ferry after hearing my question then realized that she had forgotten to inform me about something. "Oh, I forgot to tell you that no one can come here unless I allow them. Your friends are currently trying to come here, but I'm using the fog around the mansion to make them get lost..."

Oh, wow, so while we were chatting for a while, the others were getting lost and wandering aimlessly?

"Hehehe~" Ferry made an expression as if she was saying something like "Oopsie..."

"So, can you let them come here?" I asked Ferry while shaking my head because I had forgotten about something even though Ferry is 80 years old, her mind was still like that of a 12-year-old because she is a ghost.

"No problem," Ferry then used the whip she had at her waist, and soon the whip started emitting a blue aura.

"Blau Gespenst." Ferry swung the whip towards the door leading out of the mansion, and two blue rays shot out from the whip towards the exit door, then disappeared.

"There, your friends will come here soon," Ferry telling me with a smile.

"Hmm, good job, Ferry." I gave her a thumbs up.

But Ferry didn't seem pleased when I only responded like that, and at that moment I could see her playing with her fingers nervously and slightly moving her head in my direction...

Huh... well, whatever. I then started patting her head to let her know that she had done a good job.
