Chapter 1 - Chapter one

The marriage deal

Reece's POV

I cannot believe they did not have a happily ever after. What kind of romance movie is this?

I have just finished watching the last episode of my favorite TV show and I cannot believe the ending ruined whatever I loved about the movie for me. How could they kill him off after they have recently just found each other? I can't imagine myself in her shoes right now.

"Did you just see the ending of "My Love is Cupid?" I ask as I call my best friend, Kim. She is crying. We are both die-hard fans of romance and I, especially hope to find my one true love someday and disappear from the rest of the world.

Make no mistake, I have a father who adores me and I am a golden child. I have just graduated from the university at the top of my class and now, I am preparing for my master's degree program.

My love for romance has turned me into a couch potato for movies and books and I don't even care if no one gets it but fortunately, Kim does and my dad too so I don't care about the rest of the world.

I heard my dad come in from the front door and I rushed to meet him.

"Could you believe Damon died at the end of the movie?"

"Which movie?"

"The one I have been watching."

"You have been watching a lot of movies, baby girl. I cannot follow."

"Ouch!" I Feign hurt as I take his bag from him and head into the living room.

"You sound tired."

"I am tired. Work has been pretty demanding and I am sure if I don't get a raise and a promotion, I might have to start worrying about going bankrupt in the next couple of years.

"You don't have to worry about that, Dad. I will get a job as soon as I finish studying and make lots of money."

"I know, my child but I need something that would happen soon. You know, my darling, ever since your mum left us, I have wanted to give you the best in life and even you can attest to the fact that I have done my best to give you that."

Where was he going with this?

My dad is no doubt the best in the world and after all he has done for me, I cannot wish for a better dad. I was only four when Mum left. She was sick and she needed to get better. She blamed her dad for everything that happened to her. How she used to be a star before she got pregnant with me and how she got sick right after giving birth and then she could not deal with it and left eventually.

We did not know what kind of sickness she had exactly but she could not be persuaded to say despite that she was about to leave her only daughter alone with a father who knew close to nothing about taking care of a kid.

"What are you thinking about, Dad?"

"If you are worried about money, I will go hunting for a job tomorrow, it would help us make more."

"Oh, my sweet daughter! You are the best thing that has happened to me and I couldn't wish for a better daughter."

I sighed as he ruffled my hair.

"Some men will be coming here soon, let me know as soon as they get here."

He said as he headed to his room.

Just now, he seemed like there was something he wanted to say but he was delaying it for a reason.

I don't like him feeling down, especially for something he cannot help. I know about how he has wanted to be promoted to a managerial position at work for a while now and no matter how close he got to it, it always ended up getting taken away from him it seemed there was an opening again and he would do anything this time around to get it.

I know my dad. He has put in so much work for the company for a long time and he expected that the position automatically belonged to him.

I sighed as I heard the doorbell ring and then I went to get it. It was an old man and a middle-aged men. The middle-aged man carried a briefcase and as soon as I opened the door, they handed the briefcase to me and left without a word.

I wondered why he asked me to get him if I could receive the message for him but I called him downstairs nevertheless and as soon as he saw the briefcase in my hand, he immediately grabbed it from me in a very frightening manner which made me wonder what the content of the bag was.

"Dad, you are acting weird."

He ignored me as he looked at the briefcase with so much pride and smiled to himself.

"Yes, my daughter. We shall never have to worry about poverty again."

"What are you talking about? Just now, you were worried that you would…"

He suddenly grabbed me by my shoulders and made me sir.

"This briefcase contains money and everything I need to become the manager but there is a condition that comes with it."

"What do you mean? Why does that briefcase contain money and who is it for?"

"It is for us my dear, well, technically it is for me but there is something I need to tell you. I don't know exactly how to say this but you know I love you with all my heart and there is nothing in n this world that I won't do for you. You know how much I have suffered to get you to where you are right now and it is only right that I ask you to do something so little for me."

"What are you talking about, Dad?"

"The Yales have decided that the managerial position is mine if I can give your hand out in marriage to their son."
