Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

"Anne, what's wrong?". Eun asked upon seeing her.

"It's nothing. I thought I saw someone I know crazy, right?". She laughed.

"What is crazy is how tacky your hair is. Go have a bath and smell fresh before Mother wakes up. I have to leave for work.".

"Tacky? Anne asked as she touched her hair. "Oh my goodness, I totally forgot you still do a nine-to-five job." She teased Eun.

"You mean eleven to five. Please get out of my way. I hope you know that you caused all these." Eun said as she pushed Anne aside as she made her way inside.

"I'm sorry! Please forgive me." Anne giggled.

"Go have a bath, girl!".

*******

Anne couldn't get her mind off the fuck at the door. She wondered if it was related to Mary's conversation. "Should I inform James about it?". She thought.

A lot of things were happening in just one day; she had already done a lot and couldn't tell her mother or Eun about what she saw; she didn't want to involve them in her bullsh*t again. Whatever it has to do, she has to find out and resolve it.

Michael sat on an exquisitive chair in his office as he rolled himself from one edge to the other with the help of the wheel when Nathalie bumped into his office, her face filled with anger.

"How dare you! Micheal". She said this as she slammed the door.

"Calm down, baby; shouting doesn't suit you." He smiled seductively.

"No! Don't tell me to. What did you do, huh? And you thought I would be stupid enough and wouldn't find out? Well, I guess you're the fool then.".

"Nathalie, I won't tolerate you coming into my office to insult me." Micheal warned.

"Or else what? What will you do?".

"I thought you should be reasonable by now, but little did I know that I was wrong. I have a higher chance with not just James but the Hathaway family, and the sooner that sticks into your head, the better for you.".

"Micheal, that's not why I'm here, and I'm sure you know that." She calmly said,.

"Yeah! I like that. Talk to me calmly because ranting won't profit you, and besides, your share is thirty percent; I'll give you a check after working hours.".

"What? Thirty percent. I thought we were partners.".

"What partners, Nathalie? Please, what duty did you carry out at the conference? This is work done by me, and you're claiming it? Besides, you shouldn't be killing yourself over this, but the position you've been working hard to occupy." Micheal chuckled.

"What position?". She asked in curiosity.

"What other position have you been drooling about?".

"James?".

"Yes. I think he has a new acquittal." Michael answered mockingly.

"I don't understand, Michael. Please, I don't welcome jokes like this.".

"Haha! He laughed. I'm currently carrying out an investigation about her; you can do that also. I mean, he titled her his fiance at his family event; he arrested his ex-wife because of her; he made his chef serve her after spending the night at the mansion; and yeah, very important! Didn't you ask why he left the conference suddenly? Of course, she's the reason.

And trust me, James won't leave something that important because of something that is not important. So she has to bee valuable right?" He scoffed while Nathalie boiled in anger.

"So far, what do you know about her?". She asked desperately.

"Well, just a few. She bears the name Anne McCole and lives on the second street before James Estate.".

"I'll make her regret it the day she meets him. And I promise you that." She said it angrily as she made her way out. "And don't forget to write the check.".

Nathalie has been James secretary for a few years; she had a big crush on him, and almost everyone in the company knew that. She tried several times to force her way into James life when the James and Amanda breakup began.

Unfortunately, James wasn't ready to commit to anyone, and he made it clear through his actions, while Nathalie was ready to wait.

The news of Anne struck her, as it was the last thing she was expecting. She sat before her table and rolled her swivel chair while her thoughts wandered. She didn't see the young lady that walked in until she heard the table bang.

"Oh! I'm sorry. I was lost in thought." She seethed. "Please, how can I help you?". She asked professionally.

"I'm here to see Mr. James Hathaway.".

Nathalie scanned the lady with her eyes. She tried to hide her disgust and laughed silently, wondering how on earth a poor-looking girl like her could meet James.

"Do you have an appointment with him?". Nathalie asked.

"Uhm, I don't, but he asked me to visit the office whenever I could." Anne responded as she tried to win her over.

"That doesn't sound like my boss; all his appointments are usually scheduled. Business-related and not  business-related".

"I'm just here based on instructions. Please, I really need to see him.".

"I'll drop a message with him immediately; what's your name?". Nathalie asked as she typed on her keyboard.

"Anee, Anne McCole." She responded as Nathan's hands stopped moving and she raised her hands to face Anne.

"Anne McCole?". Nathalie repeated.

"Yes". Anne responded innocently.

"Okay! I've sent a message, and he is currently occupied with work. He's schedule for today is full, so I'll advise you to come some other time because waiting will be in vain." Nathalie faked a smile.

"Okay, thank you." Anne responded as she sighed and made her way out. She badly wanted to tell James about everything since her mind hasn't been at peace.

Nathalie watched Anne leave; she was expecting to see a rich and elegant lady with a sweet accent and flowless skin, not the pauper that just left. She picked up her phone as she let out a wicked smirk.
