Chapter 36 - Semper Promptus (Always Ready)

As the meeting continued Polaris outlined his vision for Fort Wilderness. The various delegates added their input, as they were interest in having diplomatic relations with the two entities.

"What you're proposing..... It sounds mad Polaris."

"Consider the following, Governor Carne here happens to have the highest approval that is second only to my own. What I am proposing, is that Fort Wilderness become the military of this nation. While I like the Wilderness Meritocracy, I believe wholeheartedly that this nation needs Wilderness as its military force, not as a governing body."

The other delegates paused and mull it over. Lady Baccara looks to Fog who has remained silent.

"What are your thoughts Governor Carne?"

"Personally, I don't believe I have what it takes to be a King. After everything, and the stigma around undead peoples..."

"Fog..." Polaris held out his hand. "I will not let you, nor anyone else ever fall victim to what befell my people. You taught me that pride in oneself isn't inherently wrong, rather the use of it is what decides the consequences. Will you take on this role?"

Fog stood up and walked over to the balcony. "I want to ask my people first, if they chose my, I shall serve them. In the meantime, why don't we all take a break. I understand Polaris wants to make a few changes to that old Fort."

As everyone was dismissed for a break, Polaris, Elder Prime, Proxima and White returned to the Fort. Without warning, Polaris fired upon the walls of the Fort. His beam turned a portion of the mountain into a flat outcropping, but the Fort, remained unscathed. The other heroes rushed out, the guardians rushed up to the Fort. All eyes were on Polaris.... Polaris began to levitate, level with the mountain. His body began to glow brighter than the sun.

"What is he doing?"

"He is reshaping the land, showing off the kind of power he has at his fingertips."

Surrounding Fort Wilderness and the ever growing city, was a cauldron of mountains. This was the biggest limiting factor upon their growing civilization. "Archimedes.... raise the barriers." Said Polaris vanishing into, breaking the sound barrier as he rose. Once he'd stopped, he looked back at the blue and green ball, but locked his fist in place and fired himself at the mountain range. In the blink of an eye, the terrain unprotected by the barriers became molten, the once towering mountain range keeping Wilderness hidden from the world instantly vanished. A wave of destruction passed over the area. The citizens watched as the wave was then absorbed by Polaris as he set himself down just outside the barrier. As citizens, delegates, and heroes approached him, he dumped every single resource he had absorbed from the blast.

"Today, I unveil our new lands, look around. Farmland ready to be tilled and worked, mines to extract resources, new areas to be used for housing, that butt up against the forest. I...."

Before he could continue, a loud cheer from the people. They were carrying Fog to him. "We have decided to make Fog Carne, King of the Meritocratic Republic of Wildereplains."

"The Meritocratic Republic of Wildereplains?"

"Don't ask me, the people chose the name. The Delegates and I will begin drafting documents to issue to the Council of Nations. In the meantime, Order of the Wilderness Remnants, Citizens of our Republic, work together to make our nation the best it can be!" Without hesitation, Guardians, Beast Folk, Dryads, Eleves, Humans, and Heroes set to work. Atrocity, Powerdrive, and the Guardians helped put in the foundations for buildings, Arris and Joplin helped farmers begin planting their crops.

Meanwhile, Polaris, Proxima, Archimedes, Elder Prime, Terra-Carne and several mages set work on building new walls from a material known as "Weeping Obsidanite". Polaris and Proxima unleashed their full star-given powers, while Elder Prime would drop piles of Terra-Carne's dragon scales into the beams. It was a beautiful process but a very deadly one. The raw power of two stars dumping pure fusion energy into dragon scales then hit with crystallization magic.... if done wrong, it could wipe out whole countries. As Polaris and Proxima's energies combined with the new material, Archimedes and Earth Mages began to erect the dark-aura purple walls. They pulsed with the power of the stars, and because of how the material was made, it was the strongest material in the world.

As days passed, Fog and the Delegates worked tirelessly to get the proper documentation. Three weeks later, Fog, accompanied by now Knight of the Republic KBar and the Delegates, had made their way to the Council City. However, as they arrived at the gates, a problem immediately became clear.

"Walking Corpses aren't allowed within the city."

"Guard, as we've explained, this is Fog Carne, the King to be of the Meritocratic Republic of Wildereplains."

"And like I said, I... Don't.... Want... Corpses.... in my city. Step out of line."

KBar dismounted the carriage and made his way to the guard and delegate. "Is there a problem here?"

"Yes, they aren't gonna let Fog inside."

KBar unrolls a scroll and shoves it into the Guard's face. "Read it."

"By Order of the Counsel of Nations, Fog Carne, race Undead, is to be granted entry into the city. This has to be forged."

"Anyone who impeeds him and his accompaniment..."

"Read.... The Fuckin.... Words Dipshit."

"Will be subject to imprisonment, execution or exile..... GET THIS CARRIAGE THROUGH THE GATES!"

KBar rejoined Fog within the carriage, as they entered the city.

"What did you do to look all smug?"

"Forget about it."

"Well, whatever you did, thank you."

"Save it for when we file this mountain of paperwork."

As Fog and KBar awaited their summons into the chamber, the Delegates dropped of the paperwork with the clerks. However, this didn't stop others from attempting to smear the name of Fog Carne.

"Haven't you heard? That's Fog Carne."

"I heard he massacred hundreds of women to become an undead."

"I heard it was children...."

"LISTEN HERE YOUSE....."

Fog stopped KBar from interrupting them. "Remain silent. Remember the Creed of Wilderness you swore to uphold."

"Yea, yea. Semper Promptus."

"Yes, but I was referring to the other one."

"The other... Oh, you mean....."
